There was a school shooting near me recently. Children with aggresive problems react a little more than they should and I think that's why it happens. I don't really know what could be done to stop it.

There has been a shooting at my school, and a couple stabbings. To make things better, they should check people, and send the people with the troubles to the school where they can recieve help and attention. because majority of the people that do the shootings and stabbings are doing it to get the attention and/or revenge on someone.
Well, at least that was the reasons for the ones at my school.
but i also go to a school full of Gang's.

Oh. Jeez. It's a little fuzzy to recall, but if you don't mind me sharing a story?

My friend attended a public highschool a few years ago in downtown Brampton, here in Ontario. Now, downtown Brampton is like a mini ghetto, so to speak. Well, during the school hour, in broad daylight, a man walked on to the school property during the lunch break, and shot his wife in the head, who also happened to be my friend's history or music teacher? something like that.

I remember it because every school in that town had to have a lockdown procedure. It was terrible. And the thing that makes me even more furious, is that he wasn't sentenced to life in prison, and of course, because Canada doesn't believe in it, he wasn't given the death penalty. Believe it or not, he was put under HOUSE ARREST in the same town!

Just thought that that might qualify as a school shooting, even though it wasn't a TEENAGE school shooting.

There was a school shooting at a school in the city about 1 year ago, one kid was kill, it was very sad. But It was some gang/drug thing. But hey I live in New Orleans drug crime and gang crime is nothing new!! so I think the answer for this one would be to cut down on drug crime as a whole. Though, One thing N.O and most school system are lacking is discipline !

It's not unusual to hear about school shootings where I live(Chicago). And it's so sad because it has become like a common thing to hear that there was a shooting or some kind of violence in school. Kids talk about school shooting like it's no big deal.

I think people don't pay attention to kids with concerns. A kid at my school had a 13 in long knife in their locker and at least 4 people, including myself told a teacher and they thought it was some joke because the student with the knife "would never do something drastic".

Shootings in schools happen for many different reasons.
Like because a kid is bullied, they'll shoot someone because they're
driven completely insane by the hell they're put through.
Or because someone wants to show they're "tough".
Because someone hates someone else so much they wanna kill them.
So on and so forth.
The school district I used to live in had so many shootings and stabbings in
the high schools. I wouldn't go 2-3 days without hearing something
about some sort of violence in the schools.
Now where I live violence is a kid smashing another kids' head into the
wall. And the happens like once in a course of a year.
So I think it also depends on where you live.
Something that would solve it?
Parents keeping their guns out of the hands of their childern.
Making sure that when their kids go to school they don't have any type of
weapon on them.
And if a parent does find a gun/weapon on their kid they should take it
away and punish their kid.
But that's a perfect world I'm talking about, bey, it would hurt for people to
try a little more than they do. ::shrugs::

if someone shoots someone. they have problems. and need help. Like the Colombine (sp?) in Colorado. if someone would have listened to those kids. maybe it wouldnt have happened.

You know what surprises me?
The fact that the record body count for a high school shooting is 13.
The fact that it doesn't happen more often.

How easy would it be, for me, to aquire a gun and massacre more than 13 people in my own school?. Incredibly. Think how quickly it could all happen, how many people I could take out without anyone even knowing what was going on.

Because every day, isolated, bullied, abused children are just ignored because we're uncaring bastards. Nobody listens to them, nobody cares, we drive them to do it.

Everyone here needs to watch Bowling for Columbine. You learn a lot from it and it's very good.

School shootings are a lot like bullying, sadly they will never stop.

My school put on a play about school shootings and it was really good. It basically had the kid go with his grandfather to shoot a deer and then he regretted it but his grandfather called him a man so he boasted about it, and then got dumped by his girlfriend and made fun of, and his grades went down, so his parents wanted to take away the gun so he shot them and felt awful but felt like he had to continue then. It's hard to explain, but it really made an impact on me. The person didn't even have that bad of a life, just different things led up to him doing that.

I'm pretty sure there has never been one, which is why I was confused when I saw this topic.
I didnt realise it was such a big problem.

I think more needs to be done to stop people getting to the stage where they will go to school and shoot people. Nobody should ever have to go through something like a shooting at their school, a place where they are supposed to be safe.

At my old school, there was no shootings, but stabbings. alot of them actually. You can't really prevent them. It's up to the kids that bring the knifes to school to stop.

A kid the town over told his principal he was going to blow up the school, and in East Tennessee, some kid shot a few of his classmates.

Bowling for Columbine, no. United States of Leland and Elephant, yes. At least, that's what I would recommend. Both those movies show more of the dakrer side to shootings, wheras Bowling, to me, got really happy in the middle, then had that devestatingly sad scene with the little girl who was killed in KINGERGARTEN, and then it went right on being happy. Plus, it was preachy.

But that's just me, I think everyone should probably see all three movies.

And the worse thing about school shootings is you can make kids wear see-through backpacks, you can have metal detectors, you can have police officers in the school, but if a kid wants to bring a gun to school, the kid will find a way. I'm not saying it's an inevitability and all those factors will deter it but I think it will always happen, with the loose gun laws, and everything.

In my school there was a situation like this. It was never shown to us what to do if this happens! So I ask myself what are kids going to do if it happens again? We all need to find a way to get people to knowtest! We can all help so then why don't we? Crying or Very sad

A group of kids in my school were threatening to bomb it for about a week. They did the same thing last year so no one thought anything of it. Then one kid came in with god-knows what kind of explosives and another kid brought a gun and knife. There was one other kid who brought a little jug of gasoline and box of matches too. Luckily the prinicipal and vice principal had been keeping a good eye on them and found everything before they could do any damage but it was really scary.
School shootings always come from someone who has a problem either with the people in the school, the school/district how it's run ect., the town/state/city ect., or themselves.
Like Columbine. The kid killed himself after he wreaked all the havok he wanted to.

As terrible as a crime it is for someone to bring a gun to school and shot their classmates I in a sense have more sympathy for them then their main targets because marjority of the time it is because they were picked and I have been picked on at school. Don't assume that because I am saying this I want to do the same, I feel terrible when someone is pushed that far to the point of violence. I know that in my state of Minnesota a few years ago a kid in Cold Spring brought a gun to school and killed to classmates, the bully who picked on him and one kid that was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Apparently afterward the town wanted to build a memorial for the victims including the bully. Fortunately the town was in their right minds and said that the bully was probably one of the reasons that kid brought the gun to school but the other kid they did build a memorial.

The sad thing is at the middle school I went to I have and still assume that if a school shooting would happen in a school in the area that I live in it would be there because the people their are a##holes.
