depends on the circumstances, if you were in a fire and had permenant burns all over you body, i think they should have plastic surgery or incedents like that, but if it's for selfish reasons then plastic surgery is bad, if people want to waste their money then fine, i'm not going to be too much of a preacher, i think the money should be put to better causes

anyone should be happy with the way they are now but there is no reason that you cant have it. i dont really like plastic surgery, i dont want anything done i think im fine the way i am. it could be dangerous, anything could go wrong.

some people take it way to far. and its all for the societies (sry cant spell) image of beauty. i dont see why anyone would want to feel like a barbie doll, all plastic.

but if its birthmarks or permanent burns, than i can understand that. but other than that, we should all be happy with our bodies. they may not be perfect, but why would you want them to be?

I think that its ok, as long as you dont go overboard *cough* micheal jackson *cough*. I think that stuff like trying to change your race or completely changing almost every aspect of your face is kinda shallow. Its impossible to look "perfect", so why even try? I think that you should try to make the best of how you look, and just feel comfertable with who you are.

plastic surgery is selfish and shallow. the only reason people even get it is cause of the fucking media telling people that if they dont look a certain way they wont get anywhere in life. if half your face was bitten off by a dog or something thats one thing but getting it because you feel less attractive you shouldnt get it.
IF THE MEANING OF BEAUTY GETS ANY THINNER NO ONES GONNA FIT!!!

i can see plastic surgery as a necessity for people who've suffered from a face/body altering injury (ie Ava on grey's anatomy [bad reference but the best i could think of now]) or someone who broke their nose badly and wants to look the way they used too. also for people that lost a ton of weight and their skin's lost its elasticity and needs surgical attention. and i suppose i understand breast reductions for people who naturally have giant boobs and it hurts their backs

it's the stupidest thing ever invented really. i mean if you need it like you are morbidly obese, or have been in a horrible accident but surgery can fix what happened or you have huge boobs, it's okay. (i realize i'm probably repeating what half the people here are saying, but this is what i think also haha) but getting bigger boobs, a smaller nose, or whatever, that's just stupid. it's selfish and disgusting.

I think that plastic surgery is fine when its something you truly need like if you got into an accident and badly hurt yourself but i dont truly agree when other people decide to get their boobs done or a face lift for example when you're perfectly fine. I understand you're not happy with what you have but why would you be willing to go under the knife just to get you're self esteem up. I dont think i would ever get anything done, sure im not happy with some things but it doesnt mean that im going to run to the doctor and have surgery just to fix some small imperfection.

I don't mind either way, if it takes the edge off of you to look different... fine it doesn't harm yourself.

Folks, please take in mind different sexualities do plastic surgery for different reasons... esp. transexuals.

i think plastic surgery is good yet bad
if you truly need it like you have a deformed face its good.
but if you get because you want bigger things (the things that girls have 2 of) then its selfish and stupid
i think that it goes to far when you have had multiple surgeries for unhealth related reasons

...but if it's for selfish reasons then plastic surgery is bad, if people want to waste their money then fine, i'm not going to be too much of a preacher, i think the money should be put to better causes

Honestly, do you think that people are going to be sitting around in their living rooms going, 'Well, I have this $10,000 that I could go get a boob job with... ahh, the hell with it, I'll donate it to charity!'??
No way. Even if these people don't spend the money they have on cosmetic surgery, they're not going to 'put it to better use', they'll just find some other random crap to spend it on.
I do it all the time - I have to make a concerted effort to put my money in the bank and leave it there, because if I have cash in my wallet when my husband gets paid, I just go out and blow whatever I have left from last week's pay.

I think cosmetic surgery is exactly like pornography and abortion - you don't like it, don't get it. But don't get mad at the ones who do. It's their body, their business - you wouldn't like it if people told you that wearing skinny jeans was selfish because they cost a lot of money, and you'd be better off wearing generic pants from thrift stores and giving the extra money to those who don't have any clothes, right?
Bad analogy, I know, but cosmetic surgery is there for those who want it - those who don't believe in it or don't agree with it aren't being forced to go under the knife, are they?
Me, I'd take a botox shot to the forehead any day, if I had the spare cash. It wouldn't make me look any different than I already do, it'd just erase the huge crevice in my forehead, and make me feel more confident within myself.
This 'love your body the way God made it' is complete and utter bulls**t as far as the majority are concerned. It's true that society is a shallow, superficial entity that gives preference to the 'beautiful' among us, but that's the way it is.
There was even a report in the state newspaper recently about a woman who got a full facelift and ended up with a great new job, after being told by a similar company before her surgery that they would never employ her because 'We can't have someone who looks like you dealing with customers, it would make them uncomfortable'. Sad, but true. She's now ecstatic about her new face, and loving her new (highly-paid, I might add) job, and loving the fact that people don't assume her husband is her son anymore.
If having plastic surgery gave her all those great things, then I'm totally all for it. She wasn't disfigured or deformed, just looked a bit older than her age. Now she looks beautiful, and she has every right to both look and feel that way.

To the people who say, 'But anything can go wrong, you might die' etc, well, yeah, but the people who are patients are counselled and consulted several times prior to their surgery date and made aware of all the risks and chances of something going wrong. It's like when you go in for a tonsillectomy - the specialist gives you a bunch of pamphlets telling you what the surgery is, why it's done, what the risks and benefits are, etc etc. These patients aren't simply paying out thousands of dollars to get butchered - they're paying good money for a service, and they know what all implications of that service are. If the surgery is risky, they know full well, and they can make the decision to either go ahead with it despite the warning, or to find somewhere else to spend their money and not have the surgery.

But yeah, each to their own. Anyone who wants it should have it, and hey, if they end up looking like Michael Jackson, they're the ones who have to deal with it, so I have no problem with it. Their problem, not mine. If they can handle looking like that, who am I to argue? They're the ones who have to look in the mirror every day, it's not hurting anybody else, so why not?

i agree with what many people here say including MCRMIKEYBABE =], it depends on the circumstance. like if you suffered from burns or something, or even if you were born with a certain flaw that really brought down your confidence, but something thats a big deal. not some like mole on your leg or something, or your chest area or behind is to small to you.getting plastic surgery for things like that in my opinion is kinda nasty. everyone is beautiful in there own way.

If you believe that you're ugly and that plastic surgery would make you feel better about yourselves, you can do it. But there has to be an age that you can. You have to be an adult. Teenagers and pre-teens that get things done become addicted. They believe that the size of their breasts is wrong and their noses are too big and the decide they want lips like Angelina Jolie. That's when it gets serious. You can kill yourself if you do too many.

That also happens with adults, but once you're an adult you can make your own decisions and no one can stop you if it's within the law.

I believe that what everyone thinks it beautiful is different from what it should be.

In the middle ages it was beautiful to be pale. No a days you see everyone walking around with a fake tan that makes them look like a leather hand bag.

Beauty changes and you don't have to be tan with blue eyes and blonde hair to be beautiful.

I have dark, dark, dark brown hair and it's the same with my eyes. Does that mean I'm ugly and worthless?

No, and I'm not gonna do plastic surgery to fix myself and dye my hair blonde and wear color contacts because you think that's the way I should look.

But if I felt miserable and ugly and I wanted to do plastic surgery I should be able to.

^ you only say that because the only cases of plastic surgery you have seen are the ones in those trashy celebrity gossip mags, where the editors are deliberately setting out to make cosmetic surgery patients look horrible. If everybody who got plastic surgery looked like Jocelyn Wildenstein, nobody would get it - not even people who'd been born with deformities or disfigured in accidents.
99% of plastic/cosmetic surgery patients look completely normal and just like themselves, just younger, fresher, or with a more well-shaped nose/breasts or with a smaller figure, etc. It's the ones who go overboard and get too many surgeries done, or those who go to discount surgeons in places like Taiwan and Mexico where they get butchered by people who aren't even doctors, that look 'fake' and 'plastic'.
Most people who have had plastic surgery don't look any different than someone who hasn't - they just have less wrinkles or a smaller nose or nice breasts rather than saggy/uneven ones - you'd never be able to tell they've had surgery unless they told you.
The reason celeb mags get so many pictures of celebrities looking all bruised and swelled up or with trout pouts (from collagen) after plastic surgery, is because these celebrities have paparazzi following them from the moment they leave their house in the morning to when they get home at night to go to sleep, so it would make sense that they can't get from the clinic to their car without having photos taken. And they can't have the privacy you or I would get to recover from their surgeries, so magazines splash photos of celebs with bandaged chins and black eyes all over their pages, whereas you or I would look just as bad for the first week or two after surgery - it takes time to recover and for the new bits and pieces to settle into place and the swelling and bruising to go down.

I don't think it's stupid, I think it's a perfectly legitimate service that is and should be available for those who want it.
As I've said before, it's like porn, abortion, or going to church - if you don't agree with it, you don't have to do it - but don't vilify other people for their choices. It doesn't harm you at all if someone goes and gets cheekbone implants, and it probably makes them feel that much better about themselves, so you should support them for being brave enough to go under the knife, not tell them they're stupid or selfish or 'plastic'.

i'm undecided on plastic surgery.....

i always said that i'd never get it done as long as i could help it..... like, i don't see the point of young people getting it, cause in those circumstances it sometimes does more harm than good. but i do only say sometimes.....

in my personal opinion, i'd only get surgery if i was in an accident and needed it, or when i'm like, 50, and my boobs start saying hello to my bellybutton...... and even then, i'd be thinking really carefully about who does it..... none of this cheap crud...... i want the real deal....
