A New Hope Always Born a Crime Age: 30 Gender: Female Posts: 5851 | Well to me it kinda seems like this would be about Gerard loving somebody but then he stops loving her(duh it's the song title). I'm thinking she could be a boxer and when somebody knocks her down he wants it to stay like that. I'm probably wrong but that's kinda what I thought when I was looking at the lyrics and I saw the boxing glove in the Special Edition booklet. |
Killing_Jar Really Not Okay Age: 35 Gender: Female Posts: 633 | Well, i thought it was about gerard getting his heart broken, quite simply. It seems as though he is trying to speak to them through the song, "youre still the good for nothing im not...fix your eyes and get up...baby get up..while you can". i think it hints at a destructive lifestyle "youre still the good for nothing im not" and hes telling them to stop their self harm, and realize what they are doing "fix your eyes and get up..while you can". people think its about bert. |
josh franceschi. Salute You in Your Grave Age: 29 Gender: Female Posts: 3243 | I was thinking it was about Bert too. It's logical. To me it was mostly the line: "So get your gloves and get out." Cause Bert always wears gloves. =/ |
johnny walker eyes. Demolition Lover Age: - Gender: Female Posts: 18195 | Yeah ^ i think its about Bert. And also when he says "So fix your eyes and get up" ... bert is still on drugs, he would have bloodshot eyes etc. That was my first thought. |
Killing_Jar Really Not Okay Age: 35 Gender: Female Posts: 633 | i thought it was just...like.. open your eyes. but it could go either way. |
Bayonetta. Bleeding on the Floor Age: 30 Gender: Female Posts: 1445 | Well i think it's about a guy who loves a girl but is afraid to tell her how he feels. She tells him she's moving away and he's angry and upset that she doesn't even turn to say that she loves him. She comes back to his house to get some of her things back [Like her gloves] and he lashes out at her and she leaves. He's heartbroken and he remembers back to them in highschool and how she used to get beat up alot and he would help her when shewas down. [Hence the lyrics: "So sick and tired of all the needless beating" and "Baby when they knock you down and out, it's where you oughta stay" and "So fix your eyes and get up."] That's just what i think anyway, i just thought it fit with some of the lyrics. |
Tickle Me Sara Salute You in Your Grave Age: 32 Gender: Female Posts: 3394 | I thought it was about a relationship between to lovers falling apart. They've been together a few months, then things just start to go down hill. The girl, the guys lover, starts betraying him. He starts seein a different side of his love. That she's disrespectful, immature, ignorant. And something happens that causes a big fight. And the guy gets to thinking, and after the fight he still loves her as much as he did before. But he just doesn't love her the same way. He feels he's always pleading to her to not, harm her self, or say, or do hurtful things she does ay go "Sometimes I cry so hard from pleading" and feel the she's beating him down by the hurtful things she does "So sick and tired of all the needless beating" Say she's hanging around a bunch of drugies that maybe she goes too far with, and because of those drugs she's knocked down and out, or possibly emotionally she's down and out. "But baby when they knock you Down and out" The guy witnesses her down and out, and even though he loves her, he thinks she should just stay their. Just because of how she's treated him. "It's where you oughta stay" Basically he's saying he doesn't want her anymore, he still loves her, just not like he did before. If she tries to leave, he wouldn't give a care to stop her. And if she ever returned he would be off somewhere else, moving on with his life, bettering him self and his life. And possibly be with someone better. Over all it's a abusive relationship getting to the worst of it's days, and ending. The pain and all such to go along with it. That's what I get out of the song. |

A Sharp Life Banned Age: 34 Gender: Female Posts: 322 | Obviously Bert and Gerard were more than just friends. I think the relationship they had was not necessarily a sexual one, but more than friends, if you get what I'm saying. Bert and Gerard had a very public "split-up", you could call it, and i think that Gerard definatly felt hurt. So why wouldn't he write a song about him? Bert included Gerard in one The Used song, "lost my heart to a Chemical Romance" and just like rappers have song battles, why can't rockers? And I agree with whoever said this before, about fixing your eyes, sounds like drugs to me. When Gerard and Bert met wasn't gerard either going through or just getting over those kind of problems? It just seems like Bert is the perfect name to attach to this song. Remember that is my opinion, and I don't know if it's true at all. |
live.love.burn.die Killjoy Age: 32 Gender: Male Posts: 93 | Here the Patient is looking back on the problems he and his lover have had in their relationship. It is revealed that although his lover is the closest person in the world to the Patient, they have at times an abusive relationship("sometimes I cry so hard from pleading, so sick and tired of all the needless beating", and it is often very draining on the Patient. Now in an angry and numb state from his illness, he comes to the conclusion that after all this time she's still "a good for nothing I don't know". He scorns his lover, sure that she will weasel out and leave him in his state of weakness. He asks her, "When you go, would you even turn to say, 'I don't love you like I loved you yesterday'?" This is a turning point in the story, for the Patient is now becoming grim, angry, and hateful opposed to his former attitude of cherishing what he's going to miss. This is possibly from all the chemo, or just as he nears death his attitude is becoming worse and worse in an attempt to separate himself from what he's known in life. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Don%27t_Love_You |
Killing_Jar Really Not Okay Age: 35 Gender: Female Posts: 633 | A Sharp Life: you must tell me of this alleged used song with those lyrics. im totally curious now. we never really hear berts side. fuck, we barely hear gerards, but still. itd be nice to know. still, if there was/is a battle of lyrics, gerard would pwn. because thats how he does things. and yeah..gerard was doing drugs at the time he knew bert, but stopped later on (we all know that). but the line "youre still the good for nothing that im not" implies a connection to bert...who may still abuse drugs etc. and..yeah. i miss them together. bert is hilarious edit! oh shit! i found the lyric by accident! its in take it away.... wooowwww HOWEVER, i must add that "take it away" was written in may of 2005, long before the falling out in or around november of 2005. so it was written in the glow of their friendship/love! |

Ceiling Gerard Awake and Unafraid Age: 35 Gender: Female Posts: 14232 | It has been rumored that Discenchanted is about Bert. But not I Don't Love You. If Anything, I don't love you is just a song about unrequited love. |
Shallow Grave Killjoy Age: 32 Gender: Female Posts: 9 | I was browsing Wikipedia when I found the page for this song... So I'll post my findings here. <3 "Here the Patient is looking back on the problems he and his lover have had in their relationship. black_parade_85 Killjoy Age: 38 Gender: Female Posts: 11 | I am new to the board but..GOD I'm even struggling with the meaning behind the song and I read it and listen to it so much I can't quite comprehend the actual meaning behind this song. BUT HERE is my word for word Meaning behind it. My Thoughts: (Well, when you go Don't ever think I'll make you try to stay) When his girl leaves he won't stop her fromg going because obviously he's tired of this relationship. (And maybe when you get back I'll be off to find another way) If she decides to get clean and come back he might go and find other ways to be happy without her. (And after all this time that you still owe) She definatly has to do time somewhere she's in trouble and he will not help because she got into some kind of mess down the line and he's unhappy because of it. They fight she's pissed that's why she wants to leave. (You're still the good-for-nothing I don't know So take your gloves and get out Better get out While you can) She is not good for him and he just don't know who she is anymore so..he tells her take your gloves *pretty much like take your problem* and get out while she can because she'll never be worth anything till she fesses up to the shit shes done and gets clean. (When you go Would you even turn to say "I don't love you Like I did Yesterday" he's asking her before she leaves will you say "you love me"? but in reality she don't love him like she did yesturday because she's in love with her problems and wants to run with them. (Sometimes I cry so hard from pleading) He pleads for her to quit her habbit! (So sick and tired of all the needless beating) But she dont want to..and when he trys to help her she's violent and beats him and goes crazy. (But baby when they knock you Down and out It's where you oughta stay) Once people catch up to her and/or the drugs catch up to her if she gets killed from overdosing or put into prision she's better off staying there. (And after all the blood that you still owe) she sticks needles in her veins and shoots shit into her blood so since she's got drugs in her blood and owes money they want her blood and/or dead! (Another Dollar's just another blow) he means that another dollars worth goes towards his lovers cocain addiction BLOW is another term for cocaine. (So fix your eyes and get up Better get up While you can) He's telling her to put her fucking make up on her eyes and get up and go while she can because he's got a problem with her there. Chorus again.. (WELL COME ON COME ON) *screaming at her to Get her ass up and go* (When you go Would you have the guts to say "I don't love you Like I loved you Yesterday" He's basically dareing her to say I love you before she goes but like I said before she just don't love him like she did yesturday because she'd rather love her addcition and leave so she isn't forced to try to get help..She ruins her relationship with drugs. (I don't love you Like I loved you Yesterday) He is saying I don't love you like I did yesturday because of your chemicaly dependent habit! Okay what do you think?? It all makes sence to me this away. she's got a drug addiction and he wants to know if she loves him but knows she loves her self-destrcuting chemical romance than him.. This song is so sad though because people who are or was in a relationship with anyone who has a dependcy on drugs or alcohol ends up ruining a relationship because of it..I take first hand exprience because I watched my sister get hurt because of her bf he had an alcoholic problem and it destroyed his relationship with her because he chose it over her..JUST LIKE in this song SHE CHOOSE's her coain addiction over him. So he wants her gone cause she isn't worth trying to help her she has to want help first!. |
Killing_Jar Really Not Okay Age: 35 Gender: Female Posts: 633 | uh...yeah... try not to overanalyze it. in the end its about someone who got their heart broken. their lover or whathaveyou is leading an abusive lifestyle (youre still the good for nothing im not...fix your eyes and get up while you can..) and the main character (gerard..heheh) wants them to stop being self destructive. the line "beating" isnt literal..it means..mental....not physical. you know what i mean. dammit.... like... all the needless worry, stress, and tears over something. its obviously about bert, zomgg!!11 i mean...bert...you know, wears gloves and stuff... meheeheeheh |
