First off this is probably my favorite song on the whole CD. But moving on. What I think this song talks about is basically what was said above, drugs and alcohol but to go a little more in depth I'm going to say it's discussing the affects they have on the person intaking them's mind and that it also affects the people around them who might happen to love or care deeply for the drunk/high person and tries to get across how it'll slowly ruin the relationship and/or the person's oppinion of them. Does that make any sense?

This is also my favorite song on the cd you two! I agree with all of you guys, I think it is about the affects, and also how some will beg for that last hit.

"Give me a shot to remember,
and you can take all the pain away from me,
a kiss and I will surrender,
the sharpest lives are the deadliest to leave."

Sounds to me like a begging for his dealer for the last one, and what had happened on one of his highs.

i suppose that would make sense, if it was actually the lyric, but the line actually goes
"i love all the poison, away with the boys in the band"

and

"the sharpest lives are the deadliest to lead"

but anyway, i do agree with the fact that its about the drugs thing, but i think its more gerard's personal struggle with them and alcohol

This is my favourite songs in TBP. When Gerard is singing in the begining I picture Gerard singing with his eyes wide open with this scary look, and when he goes "If it looks like im laughing, Im really just asking to leave" I also picture him with this evil smerk when he laughs.

it does have something about Romeo and Juilet or love because the second verse had something to it "Juliet loves the beating and the lust it commands, drop the dagger and lather the blood on your hands, Romeo."

Woah! Hearing that it was about drugs and alcohol and then seeing the lyrics quoted made it so clear.

Yeah, I agree. I think that is definately what its about.

'Cause like... shots? Heroin? [not that Gerard's ever been on Heroin but I'm just saying...] And kiss? Cigarettes? And sharpest... ermm... either thats just like a fancy verse or for some people it could mean like self-jury. Just saying! For some people... it could mean that. For Gerard/MyChem it could mean - whatever.

This is my favorite song as well.

Now I feel like going to look up the lyrics and anylizing each verse. Very Happy

In my english class we're doing Romeo and Juliet, and we have to pick a song that reflects love and the story. So what do you guys think about the love aspect of this song?

Well, I think this song has a lot to do with love.

"So why don't you blow me a kiss before she goes?" "So you can leave like the sane abandoned me."
-The guy singing's girl or whatever is going to leave him cause of hisproblems with self control.

"A kiss and I will surrender."
-The dude is basically ridiculously addicted to more than drugs. He's addicted to sex or love, and possibly alcohol and possibly self-harm (hence "The Sharpest Lives. It could mean razor blades or just needles, for drugs). and "In love with all of these vampires." proves it because in an interview about "Vampires Will Never Hurt You", Gerard clearly stated that "vampires" is a metaphor he uses for things like society and drugs that try to "steal your soul" and control you or make you something you're not.

At this point, the Patient is looking back on all of his problems with drug addiction and alcoholism. ("Give me a shot to remember, and you can take all the pain away from me."Wink This shows that at one point the Patient used drugs as an antidote to the pains and problems of his life. The song describes that during the Patient's drug/alcoholism problems, he generally stayed up all night ("in love with all of these vampires"Wink, and once again the only person really there for him was his lover. He expected her to leave during this period of his life("you can leave like the sane abandoned me"Wink, but she did not. It is unknown if the Patient still suffers from drug problems at the time the story takes place, or if he has overcome it.

Some think it is unrelated to The Patient and that it is just about Gerard's drug addiction, but it could easily be about both.

^ you shouldn't be taking interpretations from other sites..dujo said that..

anyiero..moving on, i think it's about alcholism, addiction.
he's so fucked up so the girl that he loves abandoned him because of his addictions as well as his sanity.
"the sharpest lives are the deadliest to lead" > it will be hard to fix him up..

idk..but this is one of my faves

This has got be one of my favorite songs...ever.
Hm..maybe you guys are taking this a little too literal? Maybe it was meant to be taken literally? That's what I wonder. I think it's about the guy being a little reckless with all his problems, and then coming back to a girlfriend that is sick of it all. But deep inside he really loves her?
I don't know. I guess I need to think about it more. Neutral

-EDIT- By the, "So why don't you blow me...a kiss before she goes?"
He's trying to make her jealous.
?
-EDIT- I'm thinking the sentence above has a double meaning.
>.>

THIRD EDIT-
Anyone else think this song may be about Bert?!?!?
I think so. Cool

i think the song's about how the Drugs and Alcohol help take away the pain or numb it at least, when it only makes the pain worse deep down.

I thinks it's about the life you take when you drink, do drugs and party a lot.
