Age: - Gender: Female Posts: 2601 | October 30th, 2008 at 06:36am i think the closest 'label' i've ever heard was "goth pop-rock". most people are comfortable lumping them under goth rock, although M.Manson fans might hv smthg to say abt that....ahem. And pls don't slam pop music so much....for one thing, pop is an extremely broad genre, almos as broad as rock; and a huge multitude of songs out there can be said to have pop elements, especially popular bands who have achieved mainstreamsuccess, hv catchy tunes, whatnot. nothing wrong with that.
my iTunes classifies them simply as Alternative -- which in itself defies definition till today. the very term 'alternative' has changed meaning depending on the era we're in. it used to mean a breakaway from the elaborate art-rock or progressive sounds that were going on at the time it was coined. (Wiki it and see.) It was basically going back to a simpler more basic rock sound. Nowadays it seems to mean any rock type that is not Metal, Thrash, Grunge, Vintage/classic, Industrial etc. Panic at the Disco is often labelled alternative (though for some strange reason they are also called emo. i personally dont see much of an emo slant in their songs...but anyways)
iTunes has mostly got Bullets and some Revenge songs right -- they are indeed Punk, or have strong elements of punk. But my iTunes also classifies Headfirst for Halos as nu-metal. whatever the hell that is.
Monster Rock. how bout that? i think gerard would like that actually
labels are alright as long as ppl dont take em too seriously. i dont condone pigeon-holing but i guess smtimes for the sake of convenience, record stores do that to make it easier to shop for music.
Actually i just thought of smthg interesting. If MCR were Japanese, they might be classified as Visual Kei. for the uninitiated, V.K. is a term for bands who have developed a very distinct image, usually with some kind of concept or backstory (such as the Black Parade or Revenge thing) around which their music & albums r based. it's a cool fusion of visual and audio and band members usually have on some sort of identifying distinct look for performances & videos.
but that's enough theorising for now. let's just shut up & enjoy the music, |

that's pretty good.
i've always thought of them as punk, but i guess not all of their songs are punk-y, so i say they're alternative. |
