My first case for my debate class was about Health Care and whether or not a country should provide it,free of cost,to its citizens.
I know for a fact Canada does this, I'm not sure if any other country does

Do you think a country should provide free health care to it's citizens? Why or why not?
Do you believe there should be restrictions on this health care?

Personally,I don't think a country should because people will abuse this right and it can ultimately bankrut a country

Wow

What if it's free and then your taxes are too high to afford to pay for everyone else's health care?

I highly disagree that this should be free.

Yes, it might be a huge problem for those who can't afford the fees, but who's going to pay for the very expensive equipment used? Where will the money come from? Sure, there are taxpayers' money, but we can't rely on that alone.

There'll surely be an influx in the number of patients with this free treatment thing [which isn't a bad thing. At least they're health-conscious that way.] so that means higher demand for these equipment as well as trained staff.

Also, if the staff aren't paid as they deserve it because of less money coming in [or none at all], they'd be less productive.

I've heard really bad things about the US healthcare system, like you can't get it if you're unemployed.

In England, health care is free. I personally think that it should stay this way as you can't put a price on a life. I don't know the difference between countries with free health care and those who pay's taxes, but I'm sure it's not not an unpayable amount.

Just a couple weeks ago, the governor of Pennsylvania (my state) signed a bill giving free health care to all children who live here. I think this is a terrific idea because I know a fair share of families who are very poor and struggle just to earn a decent paycheck and put food on the table, let alone have health care coverage for the adults in the home (my family excluded). And besides, children can be more prone to illnesses and serious accidents than adults can, so I think every little bit helps.

Although it's free in England, our Healthcare (NHS) is seriously in debt, which of course is leading to cut backs. I'm sure loads of people in England know about the Alzeimers drug they're cuting out, when it costs only £2.50 a day to traet a patient with it.
I think, to help make healthcare better, each houshold should pay £15 a month which entitles them to free healthcare to everyone who lives under their roof.
I know that people already pay through tax, but if it improves the quality of care you get, £15 isn't that much really.

Also, When I used to live in Turkey, I noticed the Healhcare system there is in a really bad state.
You have to pay before you get treated.
Having a heart attack? Too bad. If you haven't got the money, you don't get treated.
So only the rich can afford to be treated.

what about people who live on benefits?
Should they have the right to free healthcare?

thats a tricky question to answer,
i mean why should people who work and pay taxes have to fork out for the people who are unemployed?

I think free healthcare should be provided for those unable to work for whatever reason.

But not for those who are able to work and just dont.

But then again, it is a basic human right to healthcare.

hmmm.... as i said its a tricky subject.

^Just because someone isn't disabled and isn't working doesn't mean they don't want to.
Their particular skill might not be in demand, or they might not have the skills for available jobs.

i meant people that just dont fancy working because they're getting enough money to live comfortably on benefits.

I should probably change that stament to, people who aren't working and aren't seeking a job.

Yeah, I live in England and we have free healthcare through the NHS... although everyone seems to complain about it, I think we take it for granted sometimes - okay, it isn't perfect, but there'd soon be uproar if the government tried to make us all pay for our care.

I agree. We haven't got a clue how lucky we are here in the UK. I quite happily pay my taxes to ensure I am able to rely on the NHS when the need arises.

we have relatively free health care too in Australia with Medicare, of course with the levy we do pay yearly I think out of the taxes I'm not quite sure but its helped us out a hell of a lot more. So we don't have to pay horrendous emergency room fees, doctors fees etc etc.
