GrimValentine Killjoy Age: - Gender: - Posts: 1 | I think it's about war Gonna take off all my skin, Tear apart all of my insides, When they rifle in, Mom and Dad think you'll be saved, They never had the time, They're gonna medicate your lives, You were always born a crime, We salute you in your grave. (some people see the army to get out of a bad situation, socioeconomic or a way to prove to others they can make it on their own [ie "Mom and Dad"]) Can't find my way home, But it's through you and I know, What I'd do just to get back in her arms, Can't find my way home, But it's through you and I know, What I'd do just to get back in her arms. (Home sickness) [Spoken in background] (Well my gun fires seven different shades of shit, So what's your favorite color, punk?) (A pride in warfare and that last comment is like a drill sargent) Do you wanna hold my hand? Could you sign this photograph, 'Cause I'm your biggest fan, Would you leave me lying here? (War is glorifed in some areas of the nation and looked upon as a national duty) We're not here to pay a compliment, Or sing about the government, Oxycontin genocide, Adolescent suicide, I'll give you my sincerity, {Don't give} a fuck about a Kennedy, Here's what I've got to say. (War may not be about the politics for the soliders, it may be for pride) Can't find my way home, But it's through you and I know, What I'd do just to get back in her arms, Can't find my way home, But it's through you and I know, What I'd do just to get back in her arms. No way home why [x4] [in background] We've got to go [x7] Can't find my way home, But it's through you and I know, What I'd do just to get back in her arms, Can't find my way home, But it's through you and I know, What I'd do just to get back, well, in her arms. I can't find the way [x6] Come on angel, don't you cry [x4] (response to leaving or the prospect of getting killed) |

high drama. Awake and Unafraid Age: - Gender: - Posts: 14569 | I think this one has to do with their situation, being in a band and being adored by so many people. "Do you wanna hold my hand? Could you sign this photograph, 'Cause I'm your biggest fan, Would you leave me lying here?" I think that's about the responsibility some people claim is theirs. They way Gerard sings it, he seems dejected about the whole situation. Of course they can't be there to save everyone from drowning. "Gonna take off all my skin, Tear apart all of my insides" About pouring his heart out in his lyrics and leaving himself vulnerable? "Mom and Dad think you'll be saved, They never had the time, They're gonna medicate your lives, You were always born a crime, We salute you in your grave" I think 'Mom and dad' could be anyone here, really. People are too busy to take time to acctually listen, they just absent-minded give you a pat on the shoulder and assure that you'll be okay. And it often ends badly. "We're not here to pay a compliment, Or sing about the government, Oxycontin genocide, Adolescent suicide, I'll give you my sincerity, {Don't give} a f**k about a Kennedy, Here's what I've got to say" I think that's about the band's message. I've heard Gerard talk about it a couple of times, how they don't think it's up to them as a band to criticize politicians and stuff like that (Hence "..or sing about the goverment" ) "Can't find my way home, But it's through you and I know, What I'd do just to get back in her arms" I'm still not sure about this one. I've been thinking about it as another version of "it's okay to be f**ked up", but I'm not sure. Like, when you're lost (and can't find your way home) it's okay to let people around help you (Hence "..it's through you" ), you don't always have to make it on your own. Anyway, I think it's a great song. I love the angry vibe, it makes it feel genuine to me. And I love how Gerard exaggerates his accent in some parts, it's just brilliant. |

icyplut007 Killjoy Age: - Gender: Female Posts: 49 | Thats really cool what you guys have said, especially about it being from a fans point of view. I think it has a lot to do with that and looking to music to pull us through even though the world is falling apart around us. |
LostInWonderland Killjoy Age: - Gender: Female Posts: 21 | Okay, so I had a different take on the song than I think anyone else has... But maybe I'm just a perv. I heard a story. I honestly never thought about the song in terms of the Patient or MCR, this is just what the lyrics sound like to me. To me, it sounds like some creepy stalker dude who kidnaps the object of his fixation. Whenever I hear the song, I see this girl locked in a big, lush room that looks kinda like I pictured the red room in Jane Eyre (if anyone's read that...). It doesn't have any windows and everything's done up in red velvet. It's very nice, but also opulent to the point of gaudiness; it's a little overdone. And the girl is in a matching velvet dress, but her hair and makeup look vaguely clownish because she's too pale and sick-looking to pull it off. So she just sits there on this big canopy bed, not crying but not really moving either. Nobody's looking for her because she was alone (you were always born a crime), so she's left to waste away in the room. The song is told from the stalker's point of view. He says things like "I'm your biggest fan" and etc. that show he's a little obsessive. The place where my view could fall apart would be the chorus. "Can't find my way home Cause it's through you and I know What I'd do just to get back in your arms" Because the chorus sounds really sweet, like something you'd say to a lover. But paired with "Oxycontin, genocide, Adolescent suicide, Give you my sincerity A fuck about a Kennedy" It sounds like he's listing what he'd do to be with her. So he loves her, but it's twisted and obsessive and dangerous to both of them. The part that freaked me out the most was the last lines, "Come on angel, don't you cry". Because that's such a sweet thing to say, but the only thing I could see was a faceless stalker guy in the velvet room, saying it to this miserable girl he claims to love. Freaked me out. So that's my take. But I have an overactive imagination. I'm probably wrong. |
Kuu Killjoy Age: 29 Gender: - Posts: 88 | To me, personally, this song is like MCR in a nut-shell... Like, the words say what they're all about and stuff. It also sounds to me like the sort of step-by-step thing that an MCR fan that was helped by the band goes through, like the first verse can be where that fan's heads at at the time, and then it just goes from there... dunno, probably completely wrong, but that's what I get from it ^^ |
Darkromance Banned Age: - Gender: - Posts: 322 | I think it's pretty obvious: "My WAY home is through you". It's refering to all the young, all of those (adolescent) who are a bit lost and yet to find out who have an obsession with gerard way (as well has his brother and the rest of the band), and feel within a comfort zone when they think of him. |
sweetblackdays Killjoy Age: - Gender: - Posts: 19 | Mom and Dad think you'll be saved, They never had the time, They're gonna medicate your lives, You were always born a crime, We salute you in your grave. I think this bit, and the reference to 'adolescent suicide' later on in the song has something to do with the 13 year old girl that killed herself <3 |
sweetblackdays Killjoy Age: - Gender: - Posts: 19 | Gonna take off all my skin, Tear apart all of my insides, When they rifle in, - I think this is a reference to war, like how he hates it, 'when they rifle in (go to war) it makes me want to tear myself apart, rip my insides out'. So it could be the patient realising how much he hated being in the army, or just Gerard's views in general. Mom and Dad think you'll be saved, -Your parents think you'll be okay, and you will survive warfare. They never had the time, - They didn't take the time to listen to what you wanted. They're gonna medicate your lives, - another way of saying they'll control your life. You were always born a crime, - This makes me think of teenage pregnancy like having sex illegally (under 16) so they baby was born out of a criminal offence as such. Could be that the patient was born out of teen pregnancy in a time when it was abnormal and unheard of. So his parents tried to 'better him' and sign him up for the army to become say noble? We salute you in your grave. - You could well die in the army, and of course a army salute. Can't find my way home, - lost in the warfare, can't get home. But it's through you - wherever his mum is, is home? and I know, What I'd do just to get back in her arms, - he'd do just about anything to get home to his mum....or he met someone Can't find my way home, But it's through you and I know, What I'd do just to get back in her arms. - repeated suggests that its a ongoing situation, that he's always thinking of getting 'home'. [Spoken in background] (Well my gun fires seven different shades of shit, So what's your favorite color, punk?) - again a reference to war 'gun'. This could be that he's got into the morale of war and its kinda like he's saying it to the opposing side. Do you wanna hold my hand? - could be that when he came home he had kids, like holding his little one's hand? Could you sign this photograph, 'Cause I'm your biggest fan, -His child is proud of their daddy and looks up to him? Or maybe he came home and became a war hero? Would you leave me lying here? - maybe he shot someone and remembers there dying face even years after the war, this could be there final words. The reason why it's in this verse is like no matter how happy he is, horrific things still happened. We're not here to pay a compliment, Or sing about the government, Oxycontin genocide, Adolescent suicide, - I do personally think this could have something to do with the 13 year old girl that killed herself, and in the next lines its like, 'i can be sincere and care about her death, but i still don't care what anyone thinks about us no matter how high their social status is' (Kennedy being a president) and MCR got alot of shit after the girl died. I'll give you my sincerity, {Don't give} a fuck about a Kennedy, Here's what I've got to say. -This is from Gerard's point of view, its like, 'we're not here to sing about all this stuff (things listed) however I'll be sincere with you and tell you what I think and just be me'....kinda. .... C'mon angel dont you cry. - This could be 'dont cry about what has happened, dont worry, it wasnt your fault' (either that war kicked off in the first place, or he got signed up for the army by his parents), Or it could be a message to fans saying 'cheer up no need to cry about whatever has happend it'll all be okay in the end' kind of like reassuring everyone <3 This is what I personally think, however many of the reasons stated above fit perfectly as well, i do like the one about being from a fan's point of view. Also considering that this song is a B-side to Black Parade which is a concept around the patient, my theory does possible fit. But as Gerard has said, all their songs have the original true meanings, but can also be whatever fans make of them. <3 |
