i agree with everyone who says the song is about hiprocisy. people who go to funerals just so they look like they care in front of a bunch of people they dont know. then, they get a free meal afterwards.

it also kinda reminds me of all those "religious" people who go to church every sunday but beat their kids and get drunk all the time.

yep yep

i am so familiar with this phenomenon...heh

and bigger meaning aisde, the song may be partly about that. i mean, hypocrisy is definitely one of the themes in KAYF....and a lot of the time, funerals are where that hypocrite nature comes out. so its a great setting for the song really.

Whenever I hear this song I keep thinking about how sometimes a death, although miserable as it is, can sometimes bring so many people back together, or rekindling friendships.

Yeah, my meaning isn't too deep, but I'm happy with it. =D

I think it is about how people are pretending to be their friend now that they are famous. I think they are also talking about "Kill all the fakers"

and how low people scoop to get to know u because u r famous.

i might b wrong tho

i think it means that we should kill all our friends as a way to get together since people tend to not spend quality time with their friends and then when their friends die everyone who knew that person comes to see off that person at their funeral. As for the everyone wants to party after the funeral ends i think it means that we tend not to really appreciate people when their alive but then after they die we always brag about how good they were or celebrating them after their funeral instead of before.

I can't reply to the exact post, but someone said that his "friends" are actually his addictions.

That's what I'm thinking too, it's like he's killing his addictions so it's making him a better person, but refering to them as his friends because he once needed them.
"we all get together when we bury our friends".
Maybe this means something like Alcholics Anonymous or AA, when everyone gets together to help each other stop their alchohol addictions.

And when they were recording the Black Parade, they went through a really rough time, Mikey was depressed, Gerard was really edgy, etc.
and he feels that he needs them back again, hence "it's been 8/9/10 bitter/f*cking years since i've been seeing your face 'round here".

It's what I think anyway...

I thought it was like...not seeing your friends, and when you do, it's just on a bad occasions.
And like the title....he'd kill all his friends just to have everyone be together again...
idk...

Hmm, i see there are alot of ideas and alotho I read many, Im not ganna read them all - but i will share mine?

When you get a little bit older.. you only get calls from friends for one of 3 things. Weddings, Births or Funerals.

The one thing everyone goes to is a funeral. Its strange seeing people you havent seen in forever moving on with their lives while yours doesnt seem to go anywhere.

Thats the short of it anyway, to me at least.

This is one of the 1st songs from MCR that really hit home for me & perhaps the reason Im now a fan.

i think "kill your friends" is a metaphor for getting rid of ur bad, fake friends and be urself. the lyrics kinda match that too. it says stuff like "u can hide a lot about urself, but honey wat are u gonna do?" and "tell me baby who do u wanna be". my opinion.

I just downloaded it last night and this is my first impression, though I could be way off base:
Its about the mentality of kids now and how the only way to have fun is to bring your friends down. The idea of friendship has really changed as everyone now has a good time talkin shit about their peers. And in the end no one feels good, only shitty from guilt and embaressment.

This song reminds me of the Beatle's "Happiness Is A Warm Gun" or in other words, people get happy through hurting others. ~ Rex
