Whats the best way to build up strength and speed in your fret hand?

Yes, practice, I know.

But... is there any good excersises you guys know?

e|-1-2-3-4------------------------------------------|
B|---------1-2-3-4----------------------------------|
G|-----------------1-2-3-4--------------------------|
D|-------------------------1-2-3-4------------------|
A|----------------------------------1-2-3-4---------|
E|------------------------------------------1-2-3-4-|

Play this up an down and then just switch to 2-3-4-5 and so on.
Speed is a bi-product of accuracy. Use alternate picking.

^Thats a good exercise up there.
Or practice all the chords you know, over and over again.
That's how I got my fingers to take all of the stretching I do to them.
How long have you been playing guitar?

Um...I have a question...
(Sorry if this is stupid) How do you get copyright on a song you have written?

http://www.afm.org/public/musicbiz/music_copyright.php
that site has a ton of information about it

or http://inventors.about.com/od/copyrights/a/CopyrightNotice.htm

THANKS!
I've had a guitar for about 2 and a half years... but I've only been taking lessons for like... 7 months. All the time before my lessons was just a waste because I just spent my time mimicking the vocals. It got me very familiar with the neck, though. Which helped. I'm just not fast at all. I wanna play fast. Twisted Evil

I think everyone wants to play fast, but you have to learn the material and theory before you can "Shread".
Trust me, you need any knowledge you can get.

Yes, quite. Me too as a matter of fact. It depends on the person though. I didn't need any lessons or anything, but I still persevered, and I can play guitar very well. Very Happy

You can totally learn from a cd, like Oxycontin Genocide and Baka-kun XNinjaX said, but depending on how you like to learn and what methods are good for you, you might want to get a teacher
It all depends on what your comfortable with really
(one thing about teachers is that theres most likely a waiting list for you to go on X_x)

I wouldn't know.
I am a visual person.
I have to see where to put my fingers, and not look off a book or hear from a CD.
It just depends on what type of learner you are I guess.
But, It is possible I'm sure of it.

If you're teaching yourself, pick up a beginner's guitar book and just hack away at it.
They usually come with some kind of CD/DVD to accompany it, and instead of jumping straight into tabs and so on you actually learn the basics of guitar.
When you're learning, don't forget to learn how to tune by ear as well as use an electric tuner.
Sometimes you may not have access to a tuner, and it really helps if you can tune by ear/to a song off your iPod/etc.
Also, pick up a book on theory.
Yeah, it's boring, but it will help you understand how to write songs that work when you get around to it.
Also, if you understand theory you'll have an easier time learning how to engineer/mix tracks/tune and so on.
All that cool stuff.

Ahh yes theory. Everyone should try to know it. It helps. I play trombone, and I self taught most of my theory. It's pretty simple.

Yeah, I don't know if this question has been asked before but I want to change the strings on my bass, the only problem is I don't know how to change 'em.
So if anybody knows how, could you please help me?

This is a little more detailed musicianship, but still...
Is anyone really handy with transposing music?

It's for clarinet - Bb.
I just needed to run some transposed music by, with someone who actually knows the stuff.
I'm kinda rusty on it. XD

You don't really need to know any theory for shredding.

If you get fast enough no one will hear how ugly it sounds. XD
