How do you think the world came to be?
Was it the big bang?
Was it a work of god?
Discuss!

(And before it gets locked, if theres a "The world ending" Thread, why cant there be one on it being created?) Wink

A whole heap of stupid luck?
I don't believe the Bible story of how the world was created; due to the fact that some Christian people that I know believe in the Bible to tell the whole truth; and I'm afraid that doesn't wash over. Since the Old Testiment has about 3 or 4 different stories about how the world was made; the most common one is 7 days, the other has Adam and Eve.

Probably the Big Bang theroy could be true; since I remeber learning in school (in my Religious Education class funnly enough) about if there was a really powerful telescope that could look into the stars it would be able to see back in time; due to the fact that some of the stars that the telescope might see are gone already.

^^ it's not only mormons who believe that.
I'm a Christian, therefore I'm supposed to believe that God created the earth and such.
The bible never mentioned dinosaurs or Gondwana land. To be honest, I don't know which one to believe, science or religion.

I'm a christian but I often go against my religion, I actually believe in Science over Religion.

(studying seashells compared against mountains back around davinci's time was a breakthrough for priests, etc. Really started bringing up when the earth got started. Often priests and others in churches were the ones stuying evolution cause it was studying acts of god. What they found out often disproved the bible, kind've ironic (cnat remembr the name of the guy but it starts with L, liek Lionotus or summtin ))

Science and Christianity have always been arguing with either other over how the world was made......................... I kinda see them as an old married couple in there odd wee arguements.

Am I the only one who thinks the Adam and Eve story has to be untrue? If you think about it; they have kids and then their kids would have to have kids with each other ect, and I think the Bible says something against incestious relationships?

Basically, the only answers to this will be based on Science, religion and speculation. Personally I believe in the more scientific theories.

Every person inherints 50% DNA from their mom; 50% DNA from their dad. You inherit 100% of your cell's mitochondria from your mom. There's FOUR different view points people have on how it happend.

(i can't quite remember them all) Bible one's are basically Eve starts it and somewhere along the line there's a daughter. OR the basic Adam And Eve view point.

There's two science ones, one is that a man and woman concealed, but eventually there'd have to be a mutation across the line which delt with different types. then that there were many humans alike which concealed, creating many other children.

Scientifically (talked with my science teacher today); it is not possible that it started with only one woman being the common ancestor to every living person.

I believe that God created the earth, but I don't believe it was as literal as the Bible makes it sound.

I find it pretty freaking impossible that suddenly water appeared and then animals popped out of nowhere and then fish got legs and then reptiles grew fur and then chipmunks turned into people.

^^ There's much more to evolution than that, though. o_O;

Hehe, sorry I found that funny. /spam

I'm not Christian to start with, so my views have always been with the scientific. The theory of evolution makes sense to me the most at this point.

i dont see why it cant be a mix of both

how come the big bang couldnt have been created by a higher power?
honestly, how could something that HUGE just have happened by accident
you know what i mean?

Then I'd ask where did the higher power come from? Did it just appeared out of nowhere, by accident?

Seriously, we could go around in circle. Chicken or the egg?

Thing is we're a galaxy that's fucking huge, whose to say we're not like one cell in a huge grand scheme, no one.

You can argue all day long over the universe, how it was created...and the "greater scheme." This thread is mainly used to discuss how you believe the Earth is created. Earth V Universe, two major different topics.

There are just some things that can never honestly be figured out.
I believe in the big bang theory, but where did the small compressed molecules come from? That cannot be explained without the interference in some higher power.
But I'm not a religious person.
Personally, I'm not one to get into a huge argument over how long it took the earth to form, six days or six million years. I don't really care. It's here now, so enjoy it.

I think God created the world in its infacy and then just left it alone and everything else evolved. I have had this belief ever since the 6th grade when we all created our own little "worlds" by filling a cup with dirt, pouring some water in it, and looking for ameboes (spell) under the microscope 2 months later. I think God did the same thing with Earth because honestly if He were still around watching our planet, would it be so fucked up?

With the whole Adam & Eve thing didnt humans evolve from monkeys or gorillas or something like that?
I was questioning my religion teacher the other day about this topic and she knows that personaly I don't believe in the whole concept of a 'God'. She was saying to me that the chapters in the Old testement of the bible are'nt under any circumstances ment to be taken liretally but more medephoricaly (sp).
The Big Bang I think is a much more of a realisitc way of thinking to how we became. Although I dont quite understand how a bang can just magically happen it.
I like to think that we are just here because it is the plan for each of us and the world was created to see what would happen to each of us. Mabey more so like an expreiment or something to see what would happen if humans and animals started evolving on one planet and when we all die off the plan will be used and betterd for another planet.
It may sound a bit stupid but meh.

hmm.

well. i wouldn't know how or why, but i firmly believe that God created the earth and all of it's inhabitants.

i think the big bang, and evolution is a bunch of bogus. >.<

i agree with druscilla; in rags about how it wasn't as literal as it was depicted in the bible...

I'm technically supposed to be Catholic. But I'm actually agnostic. I believe that there is no way of knowing whether or not God exists. If science proves God exists, I'm in.

On another note, there's a story involved with Adam and Eve that was banned from the Bible. According to that story, a girl named Lilith was created before Eve, but she was made the same way Adam was, so she refused to obey him and she was kicked out in favor of Eve, who was made from Adam so she had to obey him. Conclusion: don't trust the Bible.
