A lot of cases show twins with a mental connection or psychic abilities. There are cases where twins are seperated and they end up leading similar lives.

A book called Mind Games (fiction) follows an elementary school class studying ESP and PSI. There are two twins in the class and one of them is "weird." For the study, they have the "weird" twin look up words in the dictionary and the other twin draws them. There's a little sailboat when the girl looks up 'boat.' and a rose when the girl looks up 'flower'. Then, the "normal" twin starts to draw a dog, a Golden Retreiver to be specific. The class then finds that the twin was looking up the word 'sunshine', which happens to be the name of the twins' dog.

In a book called Tanglewreck by Jeanetter Winterson, a character mentions kidnapping twins for experiments. One twin is used for a Time Tranfusion and other suck experiments and the other twin is thrown into a black hole where he/she will not age but simply stretch forever. It is later explained that this is because one can steal only 49 years of Time from a normal human. But if you have two twins and one cannot die, 98 years or more can be taken. This is because twins supposedly have the same wave function in their bodies when seperated. a "wave function" according to the book is the state in which an object, living or inorganic exists.

These are two examples from fiction books and both examples explore the nature of twins and their connection to each other.

So what do you think? Are twins really something special? Is it really an extraordinary case of two humans being connected from the uterus till death or do we just make a fuss about nothing?

My grandma is a twin and she experiences "symptahy pains" with her sister. It's actually really creepy. When something is wrong with one twin, the other can feel it.

I'm actually a twin and my friends all say that my sister and I are pretty different. I've never really been away from her for too long so I dunno about leading similar lives when separated. Sometimes we end up thinking the same thing, or sing the same song at the same time. I dunno if there's some special connection there but I think it's just from being together all the time. We had our own language when we were little (probably about 3 years old or younger) though, and we would work together to do things. But then again my sister and I are fraternal twins, not identical, not originally from the same cells. It'd be more interesting to see what an identical twin has to say.
(Sorry if this is kind of irrelevant to your topic. It just caught my attention.)

I actually knows two sets of twins.
Two girls( not identical), and a boy and a girl.
I've known them since i began in school,
and actually they are kind of the opposite of each other.
In the first pair, one of them listens to Him,
and the other Akon,
and they have completly diffferent taste.
The boy from the second pair is my best friend,
and he and his sister is too opposites,
but I'm pretty sure that they have some kind
of unexplainable connection. If one of them is sad,
the other can allways feel it, and sometimes they just know what the other thinks.
I don't think that they have some kind of "magical connection",
but I'm sure that people, who have known each other
their entire life( plus a little bit extra),
has a kind of connection, that cannot be explained.

When you play basketball teams with twins playing together, they're amazing. Unstoppable. I hate it.
Just the way they play together leads me to believe they have to have some kind of connection.

I know 3 sets (i guess you'd call them) of twins pretty well.
Kristin and Kelsey are a lot alike, but have their differences.
Philip and Andrew are totally alike. Very few differences.
Amy and Emily are totally different.

I think all twins have a connection, but also can grow apart.
But none-the-less,the connection is still there. Even if it is barely visable.[/size]

I know a couple of twins neither looks alike but where one is the other isn't that far behind. They are different visually, (one set is, the other set are boy, girl and they do look alike) but they do like doing just about the same things together.
If your twin isn't there, you kinda feel that you have a piece missing from you. (Experience has taught me well).

Yeah, I believe Twins are special from the experience I had with them. I totally agree with Blue_Demon. Especially the Identical ones. Thats because they were split from the same egg, while the Freternal Twins are just two different eggs with two different sperm. Its interesting to see that the identical twins were once one... probably thats why they share a special bond.

That happens with normal people a lot as well though, fpr instance, when a woman is in labour, it isn't rare for a female friend who is with her to get period pain like cramps in her abdomen.

Yep. My bestfriend and I seem to share a "twin connection" There waas one time that we have an assignment for homeroom and she did extra because she thinks i'll forget to do it and whaddya know, i did forget to do it. Sometimes we also say the same thing even though we're far apart. Sorry, out of topic.

Anyways, many asian cultures like the Filipino culture believes that twins are special because it is rare that you get twins. A couple to have twins are considered to be lucky. I also read in ripley's that you can have astrological time twin. Your time twin would be born at the same time and moment that you were born. Time twins usually live parallel lives (e.g. Same number of children, same number of times married..)

there are these identical triplets [sorry sorry I know not twins] at school, one is a boy and the other two are girls. [Yes the boy does look like the girls] and they are different.
The girls hang out with each other mostly and as far as I know like the same kind of stuff, but the boy is into sports and doesnt really have much in common with them.
I wonder if the girls have more in common being sisters or if the birthdate has anything to do with it.

They confuse me alot, because I always thought Identical twins or multiple births had to be the same sex...

That happens with my best friend too but I wouldn't consider it a twin connection. Were just close friends and because we know each other a lot that it just happens. But for twins, its quite special. Sometimes they can even feel the other twin's pain. (From my experience with twins) They share a unique connection that most of us probably don't understand...

They do...what they probably are is one set of identical twins (the girls) and then one more, making them triplets. In order to be identical they have to have exactly the same DNA, and as there is one unmistakeable difference between the boy and the girls, they aren't all three identical.

I'm a twin. My brother and I are nothing alike.

He's a room hog, and dousn't come out unless its to eat dinner, or buy a new video game, and is so anti-social it isn't even funny.

I, on the other hand, don't like to spend but ten minutes in my room, and I come out for anything. I'm defenatly the more social one, and will do anything to get people to talk to me.

We don't look much alike, although so many people get us mixed up still. Which is quite odd, seeing as i'm the one with breasts, and not him. 0_o. Uggh.

But we still look quite similar even though we aren't identical.

I'm an identical twin and my sister and I have a special connection
We always say the same thing at the same time
I know what she is thinking by just looking at her
and vice versa.
and sometimes we feel each others pain.
Like we've both felt each other's cramps before
and other stuff like that.
and we play tennis together
I mean, I just know where she'll be on the court
we think Exactly alike sometimes we don't even have to speak.
We have the same tastes in just about everything--but not all the time with guys
lol

But I know a couple pairs of identical twins who aren't like this at all.
They like hate each other.

But me and my twin are best friends. and we dress alike just about everyday.
There IS a twin connection.
It just depends on how strong it is concerning each pair of twins.
