| tabitha Bleeding on the Floor Age: 43 Gender: Female Posts: 1831 | x..touching_hands..x: 1) It is back in my ignore pile as well. I don't see the point, and I don't see any actual rumors being proven or disproven. I think I'll stay in here, where it's much nicer. *takes cookie from collective thread cookie plate, and hands one out to everyone* Oooh, still warm and gooey. Must go and get some soymilk. 2) I am holding you to that comic geek chat, because I've not found anyone who *can* keep up with me in a "proper" comic geek chat. I throw out too many other books and stories and compare and contrast and just get people lost. I don't know anyone IRL who reads TUA as well as their other books, and I forget that TUA is pretty much anything anyone on this board reads in the way of comics (I know there's a few others here and there, but on the whole, it's just TUA) and so they aren't as familiar with story setup, character development, panel structure, and the like. They wouldn't know a splash page if Gerard and Gabriel ran up and slapped them in the head with one. And let me tell you I am fair to bursting with wanting to geek out over this book, because overall, it *has* been so new and fresh and exciting. *I am NOT doing the pee-pee dance. I'm doing the Loz, hurry up and get it already! dance.* 3) I have not read any of the manga. I admit it's just too overwhelming and I can't keep it all straight. We have just about every Ghost In The Shell DVD, however, and I think I've seen most of them. I like the idea, but it gets really s-l-o-w at times, and I lose interest. Page claim: What I wouldn't give to sit down with Gerard or Gabriel and pick their brains about TUA. |

| tabitha Bleeding on the Floor Age: 43 Gender: Female Posts: 1831 | keve'sLadyofSorrows: Ask, and you shall receive: First of all, Boneyard Press is pulp slash comics that most comic shops don't stock. I visit upwards of 5 different comic shops (I'm counting the Coliseum of Comics chain as 1) in the greater Central Florida area (radius of about 150 miles around Orlando) for HI duties, and only one of them carries this stuff, and that's a porn shop that sells comics on the side so that they don't have to call themselves an "adult" store. (I don't go there much) Maybe Acme keeps some of it in the back room with the smut comics, but it's certainly not front of house material. I can see it as something that a young, impressionable Gerard, who was enthralled with horror movies, would see as cool half his lifetime ago. It would be resume fodder for an aspiring writer. Read the Hart guy's musings on his blog. He's like the Howard Stern of comics. He knows he publishes smut and worse, he's proud of it. He throws out a bunch of big name artists and writers like they're best buddies, but you don't see him going after them the way he's going after Gerard. Why? Simple. They don't have as much money or as much clout in music, which makes insanely more than comics (and believe me, comic artists are VERY WELL paid if their contracts are written well). Secondly, I looked into this "On Raven's Wings" that this guy is claiming is Gerard's first published work. I'm going to assume, due to lack of any credits on the cover, that it's an anthology. Maybe Gerard did a short story that may have been included in it, I don't know. But he didn't get cover credit, so even if it were in a comic shop somewhere, a teenie couldn't spazz out "zomg! Jerald madee diz comxi! I haz to haz it bcuz i lurvez hem and wzomg!" Not to mention, if this guy is that pissed about it, you would think he would take it out of the vault, dust it off, and republish it with "WITH A STORY BY GERARD WAY OF MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE" on it so that the fans would go nuts and buy it. Of course, he'd have to ensure that Gerard got his proper share of royalties, depending on how his contract was written (or if it's even in effect, Gerard being a minor at the time, or if it had a perpetuity clause, which given the work, I highly doubt it) but that's neither here nor there. Thirdly, Gerard has never claimed TUA as his "first published work." It's been advertised as his first series, which is correct. If this guy can find a piece of advertising that says that, I will take that back, but every advertising piece I've seen touts it as "a new superhero team conceived by" or "a new comic series written by" GERARD WAY OF MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE. (and that pisses me off. Let the work prove itself on its own merit. It can stand on its own without the constant references to a band which has nothing to do with the story.) It's common knowledge that he interned at DC, and I know people who remember him working there. DC published a short comic that he had drawn (I wish I could remember the name, it escapes me, but it was a western-style comic) as part of another anthology. Throw in The Breakfast Monkey (which I'm sure Cartoon Network has sitting in a vault of rejected ideas somewhere) and that puts three things ahead of Umbrella Academy, and nobody sees DC with their panties all in a bunch (then again, I'm not entirely sure DiDio even gives a shit about it, since Gerard interned under a different editor) nor do you see Cartoon Network climbing through their vault to revive Breakfast Monkey. We all know that when someone gets famous, dirty little secrets come crawling out of the woodwork, people who used to treat you like shit are all of a sudden your best friend from high school, and nothing in your life is sacred (i.e. Team Let Gerard Shit In Peace). It sounds to me like, here is this guy with a piece of Gerard's very early work, who wants his fifteen minutes of fame. More than likely, he just wants to get his crap publishing house in the news for some free publicity. And just for shits and giggles: You don't see Kevin Smith going out of his way for this Hart guy either, because now that Kev's working for Marvel, I'm sure that he wants to forget the quick cameo that he gave to this jackass in "Chasing Amy" -- proudly wearing his "Marvel Can Suck My Cock" tee-shirt. Sorry, honey, Marvel can't publish every little piece of trash that crosses their desk. Try to take rejection with a little bit of dignity, or at the very least, with a little bit of maturity. read Dark Horse's and Gerard's response to this guy here. |
| Green Faerie Salute You in Your Grave Age: 35 Gender: Female Posts: 2903 | ^^^ *jawdrop* Lol, you just made me feel so unintelligent, it was quite severe. That was so well wrote. You backed up your claims with a variety of evidence and it was very impressive. *claps* It annoys me when people jump up from the past (Faaaar in the past) to stake a claim when someone gets famous. It seems like everyone is trying to get a piece of Gerard every other week. People just need to leave him alone, let him do what he's doing. He is such an artistic person and if people keep attacking him and smothering him the way they do sometimes, his work is going to suffer. And it will be his fans, both of MCR and his comic book that will end up feeling it the most. I wish people would just remember he is human, and leave him be. It's at times like this i'm really glad i'm not famous. |
| MCRmom Killjoy Age: - Gender: Female Posts: 91 | Tabitha, thank you. A bit of sanity in an insane world. I couldn't have said it better myself. So sad when people who think they're worthy try to ride on the coattails of someone else's good fortune. If that guy had any issues with anything Gerard wrote on the first two albums, why didn't he speak up before TBP became so huge? Because not as many people would've paid attention to his crap, that's why! |
| The Original Bob. Demolition Lover Age: 26 Gender: Female Posts: 16672 | Tabitha, I think I got about 2 words of that... I had to read it several times. Wow. Exactly. Poor Gerard. Talk about the dark side of fame... I'm so glad sometimes i'm not famous. They get everything they ever did examined many times. Just cause they're famous. Sorta unrelated... that comic, "Runaways", who is it published by? It's easier to find it if I know... thanks. GERARD. IF YOU READ THIS... FUCK THEM. Some of your fans do think of you as a person, not a idol to worship. Some of your fans read your comic not just cause it was written by you, (the minority, though), some of your fans don't care about your marriage, or the holes in your jeans. Some of us just care that you and the band are happy, and keep making great music (and great comics, wink-wink) that inspires people to keep on living, to remember what is good about life. Some of your fans are assholes who only care that you're hot. BUT DON'T DESPAIR, NOT ALL. Some of us rely on your music to get through our day. I am so pissed at teenies right now. Anyway, i'm dead if caught, so peeps on this thread, take care, have fun, don't be stupid, keep stickin' it to the teenies...long live the rest of us. ![]() |
| Robert Corey Bryar. Always Born a Crime Age: 33 Gender: Female Posts: 5373 | i posted this in the Children of Sin thread as well i saw what someone posted above about what these "fans" have been doing to the band lately, and i was horrified! what kind of a person/human being, not to mention someone who calls themself a "fan" would stoop to being so disrespectful and unappreciative of these wonderful people who basically put their hearts out to them? that's just fucking disgusting, and like many, i hope the boys know that not EVERYONE that likes their music can be so hurtful as this... i don't know what i would do if someone did that near me... it pisses me off to no end... and personally, i could care less what "outside" people, or non-MCR fans think about me for liking MCR based on these idiots, just as long as no one from the band gets hurt by one of these stupid morons ![]() [/rant] |
| tabitha Bleeding on the Floor Age: 43 Gender: Female Posts: 1831 | Sarahbob: Runaways is published by Marvel. Currently it's being written by Joss Whedon, who took over after Brian K. Vaughn. If you can get to a comic shop, just ask the guy (or girl, if they're a progressive shop) behind the counter for the Runaways Saga and the Whedon run to current. If they stare at you blankly, find another comic shop that actually knows their shit. Also try NYX (Quesada/Middleton) which leads into X-23 (Kyle/Yost/Choi). These are books about characters near your age, well written and not too edgy. You can relate to them without dealing with the M ratings. Those are both published by Marvel as well. For DC, I would recommend any of the Teen Titans books, again, characters you can relate to, at a level appropriate for your age. Also pick up the Lenore trades by Roman Dirge, there are currently 3: Noogies, Wedgies, and Cooties. Good fun about a little dead girl. I think you will enjoy her (mis)adventures. It's published by Slave Labor Graphics. |

| gazelles. Thinking Happy Thoughts Age: - Gender: Female Posts: 566 | Oh, I hope Frankie's okay. It'd be terrible if he lost yet another family member, so soon after losing his grandma. My prayers and thoughts are with you, Frankie. That video honestly disgusts me. What on earth would provoke you to want to do that to your so-called "heroes". Yes, they are famous people, but they are still PEOPLE. Human beings who get tired, upset, and sometimes a little angry. I don't see why all of those "fans", felt the need to bother the guys that much after a long flight. They were probably all jetlagged, tired, and really didn't want to have to deal with tons of screaming kids. Sometimes I think people have forgotten what the word "respect" means. You know, R - E - S - P - E - C - T, find out what it means to me. /lamejoke Ugh, I really hope the boys know that there are plenty of fans who don't view them as celebrity pieces of meat. It's fans like that who ruin it for all of us who would like nothing better than to have a civilized talk with one the guys. *sigh* |
| Person0001 Always Born a Crime Age: 40 Gender: Female Posts: 5099 | Tabitha you so win at life! |
| tabitha Bleeding on the Floor Age: 43 Gender: Female Posts: 1831 | ^^ Thanks, Deb. Right now, I feel more like epic fail at life, but ask me about comics, and I can pwn just about anyone. I've done a little more reading and research into the matter, and I completely stand by my previous post. This Hart guy is a complete and utter skeeze. I'm actually embarrassed for Gerard that he ever worked for him, but I have to remind myself that he was 15-16 years old and about as geeky and self-conscious as they come (I can completely and rather painfully relate) and wanted something, *anything*, to stand out from the crowd and get out from the teasing and other atrocities that is high school for the non-perfect. For this guy to help out a chubby little loser kid, then rub his face in it 15 years later once he's gotten his shit together and done something amazing -- what a fucking dick. Not to mention he's accusing Gerard of plagarizing his work in MCR's music -- that's a pretty hefty claim that he'd better be willing to back up, put his money where his mouth is. I'm sure Reprise's lawyers would like to rip him a new one if it turns out he's slandering and libeling Gerard. However, in the interest of fairness, Gerard would need to be willing to admit it, if this guy's able to prove it. Gerard is a wicked creative genius, though, so I'm willing to stand in his corner and wave his flag on this one. I was especially entertained when I found clips on YouTube of Hart on Jerry Springer. Fucking classy. 'Nuff said. Now, Sally Jessy Raphael is a badass, and I loved her show back in the day, she didn't take anyone's shit, and her glasses pwned the world. But being that the clip they show young Gerard in is SJR and an audience member ripping apart the publisher of "Sex Offender Trading Cards" -- well, you can just imagine my derision. |
