I've nearly fainted at two shows now and to be honest its really irritating me and getting me worried about whether it will happen at any other shows etc..

Does anyone else have this problem??
Or anyone have any tips on how to not faint?

Right well I've done some research about fainting and it can be caused by standing up for too long, stuffy atmospheres, lack of water (dyhydration) and heat. Which of course means that its obvious why people faint at concerts.

I have a few of tips on how to not faint and they've worked for me (you see i've never properly fainted just came over feeling faint)

1. Drink plenty before the show and if you can take a bottle of water in with you. (I know that is not always possible)

2. If you get the feeling that you are going to faint then tell someone straight away

3. Take some sort of sucking sweets with you and carry them in your pocket (i take strepsil throut losenges(sp?)) That way when you get the feeling you are about to pass out quickly put one in your mouth this..
a) takes your mind off fainting and
b) puts your sugar levels up, and also gives you moisture so you don't faint.

4. count down from 100 in your head when you feel you are about to faint (this takes your mind off fainting) I read about it in the book skeleton crew.
(i don't think this works as well as the sucking sweets but hey its worth a try if you're desperate)

Does anyone else have any other tips??
because honestly nothings worse than feeling ill and missing most of a show you've been waiting so long to go to (and paid to go to)

Well I have panic attacks a lot. And crowded places cause this. I've fainted at shows before due to my Panic attacks.
Sometimes fainting can be caused by hyperventilating[sp??]
So, My advice is, Have a brown paper bag. Sometimes it's impossible to use because it's so crowded, but If you manage to get out of the crowd, you need to get you oxygen levels back to normal.
Also, focusing in on something. Maybe the person in front of you. STARE AT THEM. NOTICE EVERYTHING THEY DO and say it in your head.
they're wearing pink converse, they just raised their arms, they just flciked their hair, they tried to push forward
If you can root to something it takes you mind off it.
Other than that, I think you have your tips pretty down. This will be useful. Good going
And good luck!

If you're a girl and its your TOTM, make sure you take painkillers so that the dose will last you through the show. I had crippling pain at a show once and I just completely passed out with the pain. I always take painkillers pre-show now, just in case!

Anti-allergy tablets or travel sickness tablets will help because they help stop you feeling sick or dizzy - especially in the pit around heavy or obnoxious smells.

Menthol sweets are good because they open your airways and help clear those obnoxious smells I was just talking about.

No matter how excited you are, don't skip a meal and try to eat sensibly. You need to keep your blood sugar levels even. Maybe take a cereal bar in with you too, or some dextro energy sweets.

Wear something cool and loose. Think practical not fancy ... nothing tight around your neck.

If you really feel you're going to pass out, its far better to say something before you go down. If you're prone to fainting, tell your friends so they can keep an eye on you. Make sure they know what a faint looks like and how to cope with it. It can be just as scarey for the person with the fainter as it is for the one doing the fainting.

That's all I can think of so far, other than drinking lots of water and moving your legs to keep the blood flow going but don't just suddenly start drinking lots of water because that will make you need the loo, which can make some people ill if they have to hold it, so gradually step up your liquid intake over a couple of weeks before you go.

^^ yeah i agree never skip a meal or anything if you want to queue up for ages preshow then come prepared bring a plastic bag full of food + drink that way when you've finished you can just throw the bag away so one less thing you have to carry round with you.
If you don't want to carry anything at all then grab something to eat either at the underground or shops nearby the venue.
Go to the toilet as well before the show if you've been drinking plenty.
I also recomend keeping long hair tied back, i mean sure it may not look as nice but honestly if you go in a pit your hair just goes frizzy.

Yeah, I blacked out when I went to see Bullet For My Valentine.
The crowd strarted doing this wave thing where everyone gets pushed back and forth.
And I got CRUSHED between this girl and the dude behind me, and I couldn't breathe. And then I was being dragged out to the side by my mate and some random-er.
Looking back, it's quite funny.
At the time, it wasn't. lol

Wow, yeah I've only been to one show when I got the pit. It was My Chem back in March. People were getting pulled out left and right during Rise Against before My Chem even came out! I felt pretty bad. I was fine, everyone kept asking me if I was fine. Sometimes exclaim you can't breath. The guy behind me moved back so I could for a bit. And I was jumping up and down and moving my arms around like crazy. I don't see how anyone could really stand too long. I sat in line even. And yeah, I just paid attention to the show whole heartedly. I was fine. Beat, but fine. I can't imagine fainting being any fun. I hope you get through your next show.

I was in The Dungen at my school and a local band from CA called Decay Of Society was playing. I had gotten in the pit and got squished between two guys. I blacked out and my friends had to go in and drag me out. I came to a little while after. It was scary because it happened so quickly. I hope that doesn't happen again this year.

Just as you said before.
Drink & eat alot before the show.
You won't be needing to go and pee, becuase you'll sweat it out.

And absolutely tell someone. If you're in the front, where the pressure is unbearable.
tell one of the guards that you might faint, so that he'll keep an eye on you.

i read somewhere that 1 in 5 teens are low in iron so i've started taking iron tablet things (they have something in them which helps you carry more oxygen in your blood or something) and apparently these help you stop fainiting so yeh i hope i dont feel ill again at a concert because it ruins it kinda..

It was like that at wembley show in march. People were falling over and i couldn't believe how many people were pulled out at that show. I drank a bottle of water before hand and i was fine all the way through thankfully.

i get really panicky when the crowd starts pushing and going in all directions. i was at the funeral for a friend show and the crowd was insane. my friends and i were stuck in the middle of the pit and they kept pushing forward so i was basically crushed and couldn't breathe at all. i started panicking and my legs felt really weak and i was sweating so much. my friend had it worse though, she nearly got crushed by a crowd surfer. in the end, we had to fight our way out of the mosh. it was definitely intense and really scary.

I just got back from a show because I fainted, actually.

it was because I was having really bad cramps, and it was REALLY painful.

I almost fainted at My Chem in April.
I got out of the crowd to the back where there was a lot more fresh air.

I drank a ton of water and kept jumping around and then I was okay.

It's alright if you can take a bottle of water into the venue with you, but some venues don't let you (damn them) The Astoria in london is the worst in my opinion, they have no air conditioning, they won't let you take water in with you, they have a bar but only sell drinks to people over 18 (that includes non alcoholic drinks) so if you're like me you're pretty buggered i mean i almost passed out on the balcony of the astoria at a lostprophets show XD so i wasn't even in the pit lol
