pipa Jazz Hands Age: 41 Gender: Female Posts: 326 | Anybody know any good hostels/cheap hotels near the venue? What time do people usually start queueing for concerts in Germany? Any info about Dusseldorf and the venue will be much appreciated! |
pipa Jazz Hands Age: 41 Gender: Female Posts: 326 | Nobody's going?? I guess a private rockshow will be kinda cool... |
Big_Pants Really Not Okay Age: 50 Gender: Female Posts: 711 | Nah I'm gonna be there too so we can share front row! |
Jewel Killjoy Age: 40 Gender: Female Posts: 80 | pipa: Some people...plus me but it's in the middle of the week and most kids have school...so hopefully we don't have to bother with too many kiddies...german teenagers can be awfull *le sigh* pipa: hostels...don't know any...I don't think there are any close by...but the train station is like 2 minutes from the venue and I think trains go untill 2 a.m. pipa: psh..why queue? the mosh pit gets you in first row also... ... BUT I know where you're coming from, when they played in Cologne/Germany the queue was so long that the support acts already started playing and hundreds were still outside waiting to get in I think you'll be on the save side around 12 p.m. pipa: what do you wanna know? I live there...yeah the venue can be seen out of the train...station is called Oberbilk I think and you need to take the S6 (direction Koeln) or S7 (Sohlingen Ohligs) train from the central station where do you come from? Connections in Duesseldorf are pretty good to/from airport or the central train station... |
pipa Jazz Hands Age: 41 Gender: Female Posts: 326 | There goes the private show... I'll be flying from Finland with a friend. I've only been to Germany once before and either of us don't speak any German so that's why all the questions. Well, we know scheisse so we're not completely screwed... I asked about the queueing because this summer in Finland the kids really scared me. The first kids in line for the My Chem show were there a week before the show!!! I got there with my friends a few hours before they opened the doors and I think we got to the third row. And that only required a minimum use of elbows. I'm hoping the kids in Germany aren't as crazy as kids in Finland... Thanks for the info about the trains! I'm searching for a nice and cheap (good combination) hostel/hotel right now. Any suggestions? |
Big_Pants Really Not Okay Age: 50 Gender: Female Posts: 711 | Well I'm looking for accomadation nearby too so we can maybe share info. I'll be coming from the Luxembourg show the night before sometime in the morning but I haven't even booked my train yet!!! |
pipa Jazz Hands Age: 41 Gender: Female Posts: 326 | I'll let you know as soon as I find something! Right now I'm off to see this band so I'll have to get back to the hotel hunting business tomorrow. |
Jewel Killjoy Age: 40 Gender: Female Posts: 80 | pipa: Did you really think you were the only one...? But I think it's not going to be sold out...maybe it will be a little intimate...? pipa: wow 1 week before...and I always thought fans of boygroups were crazy and sleeping in front of the venue...but I beginn to realize that some MCR fans are indeed a little insane...but if nobody gets hurt, it's fine with me...I've never been a fan of camping pipa: you don't want to stay in the same hotel as MCR??? City Hostel that's one hostel I know...it's kinda far away from the venue (you cannot walk ) but since transportation is pretty good you could also stay there...or you look for a hotel close to the central station...since you're in like 5 minutes by train at the venue |
Big_Pants Really Not Okay Age: 50 Gender: Female Posts: 711 | Hey Jewel I was wondering is the train station that's close to the venue the Central Train Station or does it go by another name? I've found a lot of hotels nearby the Central Station so I need to know if that's the same one. Thanks! xx. |
Jewel Killjoy Age: 40 Gender: Female Posts: 80 | Nope, the Central Station is not the train stop next to the venue... like I said above, the train station is called "Oberbilk", but it is just 2 stops away from the central station (like 5 till 10 minutes by train), so you could also stay at a hotel close to the central station... |
Big_Pants Really Not Okay Age: 50 Gender: Female Posts: 711 | Oh that's fantastic thanks so much for all your help |
Notice. Killjoy Age: 32 Gender: Female Posts: 43 | Anyone know how big Phillipshalle is? Capacity-wise, I mean. I heard it's something around 6000? |
pipa Jazz Hands Age: 41 Gender: Female Posts: 326 | I googled it and found this site. It says that the capacity is 7500. And Jewel, do the trains run until 2 a.m. every weekday? (We're arriving around midnight.) And also, are there any cool secondhand stores in Dusseldorf? Any places in general that you recommend we check out? |
Jewel Killjoy Age: 40 Gender: Female Posts: 80 | I think the trains from the airport go untill 1.15 a.m or something...and then if you miss that one...you'll have to wait untill 3. 45 a.m but you're arriving at Duesseldorf International Airport, right? Not Duesseldorf Weeze (the Ryanair Airport)? because that isn't Duesseldorf at all, it's more like already the Neatherlands... Second hand shops...hm...Duesseldorf isn't famous for having Second Hand Shops...but you could check out the "Altstadt" (with subway to station "Heinrich Heine Allee", there are some lovely shops and there are many lovely bars and some cafes...you'll even find several Starbucks there (god, someday Starbucks will take over the world, I swear...we already have too many of them, but their Iced Coffee is really good ) |
pipa Jazz Hands Age: 41 Gender: Female Posts: 326 | We're arriving at Dusseldorf International Airport and we should be able to catch a train before 1.15 a.m. I think we're gonna check out Altstadt! We don't have much time to explore the town so it's good to know where to go! |
Big_Pants Really Not Okay Age: 50 Gender: Female Posts: 711 | I'm getting the train from Luxembourg to Dusseldorf on the day of the show and then flying back to London the next morning from Weeze airport which I now see is miles away =/ |
pipa Jazz Hands Age: 41 Gender: Female Posts: 326 | ^You don't get to do much sightseeing then. Are you going to more than two shows? I've always wanted to go to two or three shows in a row. That would be fun. I'm so jealous at you. If you're still looking for accomodation I found a few close to the venue. Motel One is only 1,5km from Philipshalle. Berliner Hof-City is about 1,8km from the venue. We booked a room from the Berliner Hof-City. It's also walking distance from the central station and the city centre. |
Big_Pants Really Not Okay Age: 50 Gender: Female Posts: 711 | No sadly we won't get to see much except maybe Starbucks lol. We're actually going to Brussels, Luxembourg and Dusseldorf and then Sheffield, London and Belfast. The London show is only about 10 minutes drive from where I live so that one is easy! Oh you should consider travelling around next time, it's fun but can be tiring. I'm staying at Motel One. Thanks so much for all your help |
pipa Jazz Hands Age: 41 Gender: Female Posts: 326 | You're going to six shows!! Holy cow... I was thinking of going to the London show, but then it turned out that I have to go to London on Nov 1st on a business trip so I thought there's no point going back again few weeks later. So the Dusseldorf show better be a good one! I'm definitely doing the following the band thing next time around! Whenever that will be... |
Big_Pants Really Not Okay Age: 50 Gender: Female Posts: 711 | Oh Dusseldorf is a much smaller venue than the London one so will be more fun! The reason we started travelling to see MCR in first place is we're chasing the smaller venues lol. Yeah you go for it next time, personally I hope they give me a chance to save money for the next tour I'm somewhat poor now =/ |
