The only thing I have a problem with is if girls go: "when i'm older i want to be a model!!" Where before it was like "I want to be a nurse" - You know do something good in the world. So how does modelling help the world exactly apart from bringing entertainment and fantasies to guys?

Um... my MOM's a model. She's very happy doing what she does. She's not trashy or slutty in any way. She's won lots of awards for modeling too. Modeling is primarily a form of advertising. My mom models clothes, poses for catalogs, does runways shows and even did this one thing where an artist painted her body all over with glittering peacock feathers. It was beautiful and it was art. It wasn't about turning on a guy, it was about displaying the talents of the fashion painter, about putting something beautiful into a magazine and inspiring other artists.

If you want to get into whether or not modeling "helps the world", I can point out a million other professions that merely provide entertainment, such as rock bands for instance.

I think the human body is a thing of beauty and should be celebrated. I don't get the whole, "Oh my God, she showed her boobs!"

Then again, I've spent a lot of time in France, where they put topless models on the covers of magazine. As well as breast cancer awareness ads. Boobs are everywhere! Very Happy

Sorry, I'm being a little silly. But honestly, these people who are so against especially women being... exposed... Have they ever cracked a book of classical art? Have they ever seen the works of Klimt or Velazquez or Michelangelo? Human nudity is a beautiful thing, and I think all the weirdness about it now, especially in America, is really just crazy.

So... Nope, no problem with glamour modeling. Laughing

^Exactly. There's nothing wrong with nudity. I'm an art student and every couple of weeks I have to draw from a nude model. There's nothing trashy or even sexual about it, it's just a naked person.

While glamour modeling does involve sexuality, it's the same kind of thing. Nudity, sex, and so on, it's all normal, there's no reason to tiptoe around it.

i've gone to high school fashion photography workshops that are um...interesting...and i've taken some pretty cool pictures, too. so what does modelling accomplish? gives people jobs. this one girl--katelynn dows--who i photographed is paying for a chunk of her college by modelling.

and it gives the lil' ol' art geeks a job, too...

I havent really got a problem with it myself, although when you open up the sun and see page 3, i tend to think 'cheap and tacky', but thats maybe more to do with the newspaper.
At the end of the day, its just another career. Saying that, i wouldnt be happy if Faith decided to take it up when shes older.

i think there's nothing wrong with wanting to be a model. however, i do see a problem when the industry makes it impossible for a HEALTHY girl to get a job... it's almost as though they're demanding a girl to have a bloody eating disorder in order to be successful. the fashion industry should be more realistic and realize that the people they're selling to aren't all size 00... seriously... it would be so much better to get normal sized people to be models... it would just make more sense.

Actually, if you've ever seen America's Next Top Model, the girls who make it in to the top slots are usually pretty healthly looking. There was even a semi-chubby girl on there that got to the final cut.

Hmm...personally I find glamour modelling another way for horny guys/bisexuals/lesbians to get off but thats just my opinion. Anyways theres nothing wrong with woman flaunting there bodys if there proud and also most of the more sucessful models have at least one photo shoot where they are topless at least.

one thing i hate about it now though is the way some people are trying to justify it as somethng else. in one newspaper over here, the sun, has pretty much always had topless girls on page three, which is fine i think, but now they've got this thing where they have the girl's opinion on current events. to me that just seems insulting and patronising to the girl, like they have to try and ave an 'excuse' for her being there.

i think modeling is affecting a lot of teenage girls and some guys because of appearence and sometimes it gets to me also and i know i shouldn't worry about as much...weight yeah can seem to lose it...most teenage girls star like that oh counting calories doing excesive execising not eating
they should make thick and skinny models and stuff not making it seem as if skinnyness is the only way you should look

I wouldn't ever glamour model but I don't believe that people who do it are wrong or disgusting. At the end of the day, your body is yours to do what you want with. If you want to feature in magazines, so be it.

I don't see glamour modelling as porn if it's only naked or topless photos. It becomes porn when the photos depict people touching themselves or others in a sexual manner.

Glamour modelling isn't tacky.

Page three of The Sun is tacky because...well, it's The Sun, isn't it?
It's pretty much a newspaper full of crap for people who can hardly read.
Can't expect any better from that paper.

I think glamour modelling is OK and stuff but there should be more curvy women posing and stuff.

Oh Star.:
What do you all think about people doing it in the hope of becomig celebrities?

Such as, over here in the UK, anyone who comes out of a reality show seems to do a pin up in a magazine, just to get noticed.

I guess for people off Big Brother, Help! I'm A Celebrity.. etc, are just doing glamour modelling to keep their 15 minutes of fame going. Having said that, I think that people are welcome to do what they want as long as it's legal. There's nothing wrong with a woman who doesn't mind people seeing her topless, and if she wants to have people take photos of her and put them on a magazine, she can. Most of the time these women are a healthy size, with breasts and hips, so there isn't danger of little girls looking and trying to starve themselves, as it is sometimes in modelling. I just think it should be stacked on the top shelves, where it is anyway, so that kids in corner shops won't wander over and look at them.

Well, they do show guys from behind sometimes showing their arse, but tbh, the guy can't exactly show his piece on a magazine cover, like how a woman wouldn't be allowed to show her crotch area.

Mm, yeah. I remember in the cycle with Eva, there was this girl called Amy in the final rounds of audition, but Tyra didn't put her through because she was literally skin and bone. I'm guessing ANTM don't want to promote stick-thin models.

I sometimes can't help but think they do that just to look good though.
