I'm slowly working on becoming a vegetarian. I haven't had beef or pork for three months and I'm giving up chicken in two weeks.

Celebrating my 3rd year as a vegetarian this May. I'm very proud of myself for sticking with it, since no one thought I would since I'm generally not very committed. Though my diet has caused many an argument between my meat-eating best friend and myself.

Just find a true purpose as to why you should become a vegetarian because it'll actually keep you really modivated and focused. Just do some research on its benifits (health, animal rights, environment) to keep you going because every person I know who has tried to be a vegetarian just for the sake of "being a vegetarian" has failed.

like i really want to do it.
because i've seen the videos where they abuse the poor animals.
no matter how hard i try, i always fail because everyone around me keeps taunting me.

Maybe try taking it slowly. Like go a week without fish and see how much longer you can go without it. And once you're completly comfortable without fish you can start on say chicken or beef. That's how I did it and I think it's a lot easier than stopping it all together.

yeah, i have tried it like that, but it never works.
i come from a mexican family, and meat is like absolutely ~mandatory to have.
my dad always had meat in the fridge. and the same is with my roommate[s].

but i already don't eat fish. i've always ate more chicken. beef i eat occassionally.
so i should work on the chicken part.

thanks for the advice. :]

yeahhh i can definatly see how that could be hard. i just went to mexico and my boyfriend and i pretty much starved cause there was almost nothing for us to eat. but i say just stay focused and ignore the teasing cause it's definatly worth it in the long run Smile

I've been trying to eat less animal product - for reasons of my own - and have been finding it rather difficult. Meat and dairy are everywhere, and I don't just mean in my house, but in restaurants too. You can't find many vegan meals on a menu that isn't a salad.

congrats everyone on trying vegetarianism and cutting down on animal products =)

right now, I'm at nearly 2 years of being a pesectarian, and just starting full vegetarianism. my family was initially hesitant, but they're now pretty tolerant and supportive. I think the key to having my family accept it was making an effort to protect my health by accepting their meat alternatives (being nuts, whole grains, and soy), taking blood tests, and definitely eating my vegetables.
