(Please delete if topic already exists; I looked & it doesn't)
I find myself unable to tolerate songs with insanely mind-numbing, shallow or unoriginal lyrics/hooks/etc after MCR music. Well, I can hear them for awhile, but after about 3 minutes I hv to switch 2 smthing else or go bonkers. You?
i mean, really. Gerry & co are to blame for my drastic rise in standards. i used to be able to listen to almost anything, but..... |

Age: 37 Gender: Female Posts: 2903 | January 26th, 2008 at 10:44am Lol, I completely agree. I have to force myself to listen to other bands sometimes, and even then I only get through a few songs and I HAVE to put MCR on... alot of other music just pales in comparison.
(Ooh, next door have just started band practice, a fact my mother detests, but I find it quite interesting. The drummer's pretty good.) |

My friends hate me because they always try to get me into the rap shit, so like once a week they come in a say "OKAY I FOUND ONE THAT YOU'LL LOVE" and make me listen to it and I ALWAYS hate it. I guess I don't really keep an open mind to it, because I think I've only ever heard one rap song that I've liked (When I'm Gone - Eminem... I love that song) but all I ever hear any of them sing about is sex. Seriously. I just listen to it when they ask me to make them feel better...
Whenever they play that I can feel my brain slowly turning into a steamed vegetable. Luckily, however, I am bringing a few of them to the dark side (meaning MCR and screamo and stuff ) so they're coming around.
But at all their parties it's like shakira-palooza! I swear, every time they play it I can feel my brains start to ooze out through my ears and nose. |

I quite dig eminem, even with his less-than-picturesque lyrics on women & bisexuals (hmm, i guess the man's entitled to his opinion) as he's managed to establish his own thing. I'm sick of up-and-coming hiphop stars who have no identity of their own & churn out the same predictable vids of chicks sucking up to them.
I thought Sean Kingston would be different actually - esp after hearing his vintagey debut, Beautiful Girls with the 'Stand by me' sampling. but his recent hits r just descending into the same old formula ...pity. |

Yea, once in a while you hear a really sweet, sincere song... but that's once in a VERY long while.
Most of them are about sex and "supermaning that ho." It's actually sorta sad if you think about it. That that's the only thing they feel compelled to right about... |

Age: 31 Gender: Female Posts: 1240 | January 26th, 2008 at 01:35pm yea... I was listening to a cd I enjoyed a while back before mcr, and after the first few songs I had to turn it off and play something else, I was about to get sick XD
yep, I'd say mcr has raised my standards... a lot, lol |

If I hear something I'm like "they're not as good as MCR"
and then I switch.. it's a shame really, you miss out of a
lot of good bands because of it. |

Age: 36 Gender: Female Posts: 2188 | January 26th, 2008 at 09:16pm MCR has surely given us similar minds...
finding new music after MCR became so hard. I would look for music with a slight operatic feel (like TBP) or a voice like Gerard's, or some sort of darkish element to it. Haven't found anything remotely close, but a few that reminds of MCR-esque style eg: Nathan Leone's voice from Madina Lake & maybe a bit of Aiden...& weirdish stand-alone types like Bauhaus, Dresden Dolls & the Horrors. Nothing compares. It's a bit easier now, since i've forced myself to open up my mind more, so in addition to MCR, it's a lot of hardcore stuff as well. |

Age: - Gender: Female Posts: 566 | January 26th, 2008 at 11:02pm Haha I agree, I always end up comparing bands to MCR at some point or another. They're lyrics are just powerful and emotional, and then I find myself comparing other band's lyrics to their's and it's just never even close to being as good.
I can't stand the music my sister listens to though [all the popular music, r&b, rap, whatever]. It drives me insane because the lyrics are so shallow and stupid and ugh. I don't understand how people can listen to it. |

Age: 29 Gender: Female Posts: 438 | January 26th, 2008 at 11:33pm I listen to other bands, but i just can't stop listening to mcr. i kinda have a problem. example:
i was going to an avenged sevenfold concert.
while in the car, I was listening to mcr.
during the concert, while waiting for them to perform, i was singing it in my head.
when i was going back home in the car, i was listening to mcr.
also, i was even wearing an mcr shirt. uhhhhhhhh.......
anyway, i just always say to myself, "this band's good, but i just need to listen to mcr" |

Age: - Gender: - Posts: 18 | January 27th, 2008 at 02:31pm haha this Amazing band have changed my music standards completely.
Before i used to listen to any band regardless of their messages, DECENT lyrics. Gawd sake i found bands like JONAS BROTHERS talented haha, what was going through my head. I was an 11 year old retard haha. But since discovering mcr and actually realizing how immense and awesome their lyrics are i only listen to bands with TALENT! But MCR will always be my favourite.

Age: 29 Gender: Female Posts: 375 | January 27th, 2008 at 04:08pm I dunno, but MCR has kinda opened my eyes, so instead of just likeling mainly what my sister played...I found my own stuff [which she hates!!] and yeha, I have loads of songs on my iTunes but I just keep playing the MCR playlist over and over again......makes me happy tho XD |

Age: 31 Gender: Female Posts: 2286 | January 28th, 2008 at 01:08am MCR killed my liking for Good Charlotte but it was going to die out anyway.
What I find interesting is that nothing, not Pink Floyd, not Iron Maiden, not Led Zepplin, not Rise Against, and not any other band I've gotten into recently that I think is more hardcore and/or musically talented than MCR has made me stop listening to them in the same way that I completely gave up on GC.
I still don't know why that's the case.
I know that I can't stand Cobra Starship (no offense to any fans of that band) even though all my friends like that but I think that has less to do with MCR and more to do with the other bands I had listed. |

Age: - Gender: Female Posts: 229 | January 28th, 2008 at 01:15am I haven't heard anybody who can write better songs than MCR. Yes, there are a few good songs out there besides My Chem, but MCR are the best songwriters anywhere! Nobody can tell better stories than MCR. They are rock, but they are so musical and versatile that they have a completely unique and amazing sound that's all their own.
My friend is really into rap, but I just can't understand why when you compare it to MCR. |

Age: - Gender: Female Posts: 3131 | January 28th, 2008 at 04:08pm Yes My Chem tops my list of bands but
i can still easily listen to other music unless its rap [cant spell crap without rap xD]
or pop ect....
i do think lots of bands are not as good as my chem but ..you know.
so no i dont think it has spoilt my life. |
