(i like excessive puncuation, they'll deal when the time comes) i get the feeling that alot of people like a bands new cd that is 'different' or 'unique' or 'odd' just because it is a specific band, or a specific record label, it's not exclusive to panic. there's a point where all pop punk blends together, panic has never fit into the pop punk lable though, they just kind of ended up there because well, there wasn't a way to discribe fever. Pop-punk-caberet-dance.. it was just easier that way. lyrically, pretty odd, to me, sounds like they were super high or super sleep deprived, so to me it doesn't sound 'mature' and i think i completly agree with chris on the " its not terrible. i dont hate it, but it definitely put me to sleep." part. I just don't find pretty. odd. as annoyingly catchy as i did fever. Perhaps it's because i grew up as much as the rest of the band did in those two years, but in a different, harder rock oriented existance (a la rise against / alkaline trio) than they obviously did. |
| sherlock! Crash Queen Age: 28 Gender: Female Posts: 30830 | ^ I understand your point (again). Pretty. Odd. is most probably less entertaining than Fever, seeing as the tunes are, for one, a bit slower, more draggy. I guess you have a very correct opinion. Admittedly, the lyrics are nice to me in Pretty. Odd., but I guess it's not the same, seeing your side. Truthfully, my iPod isn't exactly big on playing Pretty. Odd. either. |
| Volt-Zorg Boy Awake and Unafraid Age: 33 Gender: Female Posts: 10541 | pretty.odd. just isn't rock out to your ipod in your house/car type songs it does have a few catchy choruses though, and some very odd ones at that. like you said, they're not really comparable, but in the end, people are going to because it's the same band it's like listening to fall out boy's evening out with your girlfriend then listening to infinity on high the exception is, fall out boy had two cds and 4 years inbetween evening out and ioh, whereas, panic only had 2 years, and had the same amount of growth i'm going to be honest, i'm going to miss brendon's lapdances and i have also used the "i've got more wit.." line on my one guy friend- it works cause he's gay fever, was more vindictive, brutal, harsh and icy prettyodd is carefree, happy like if you were to say "i've got more wit a better kiss, a hotter touch and a better fuck than any boy you'll ever meet, sweetie you had me" you'd say it in a low angry voice designed to dig into whoever you were saying it to. whereas "do you remember when i was a bird and you were a map?" (no?) is just a lighter tone, airy almost i just kind of feel the need to get this out thanks for listening by the way |

It's true, and I especially like your analogy with FOB's IOH as compared to Evening Out With Your Girlfriend. Also, honestly, I do agree that the lyrics apply more to people, and you can relate to them more in Fever, rather than Pretty. Odd.. |
| KillJoys Bulletproof Heart Age: - Gender: - Posts: 25453 | I have to admit I really like Pretty. Odd. Its not something that you could get up and dance to like A Fever, but it is a really nice extension of the second half of A Fever in a way. I think the boys wanted to get away from that electro techno sound as its slowly becoming the 'in thing' with the whole 'nu rave' movement with bands like MGMT and Kalxons hitting it big. Where as the more natural home grown side of music is being forgotten, it’s nice to hear a different mix of instruments instead of everything being run through machines. I think that is the whole idea behind Pretty. Odd, no one makes wholesome albums like that any more and that’s why Panic scrapped the first attempted at the new album, not because it was bad but because it was something that was going beyond the capability of the four of them and what they could play live. Brendon’s really talented when it comes down to instruments and it’s nice that his ability is shining through in the sound of Pretty. Odd. You can see it by just how different each song is. Ryan's input to the lyric's have improved a lot and I love how the whole band are singing and swapping instruments. Hence I really like Pretty.Odd though I still have my soft spot for A Fever. I look forward to the B’sides. Hopeful it will be the alternative album and who knows maybe that will be just as electrifying as the first half of A Fever. =D |

The second half of Fever wasn't techno =/ Sure it was more upbeat than certain songs on P.O., but it still didn't have the electronic feel the first half did. I LOVE PRETTY.ODD., AND I AM NOT ASHAMED ^.^ |
| batsquad! Awake and Unafraid Age: 34 Gender: Female Posts: 14696 | It's tomorrow night. Like, I can't even believe that this is finally happening. They're going to be right there in front on me. I was cleaning my room up last night and I put my ticket on my dresser [after holding onto it for dear life], and I started crying like a big baby. I can't believe it. |
| Heaven-Help-Me Bleeding on the Floor Age: - Gender: Female Posts: 1256 | I like both albums equally, but I try nnot to listen to them at the same time. I listen to P. O. when its raining, or Im relaxing, but Fever if Im wants to dance, or cleaning my room(which sometimes happens at the same time with Fever xDD). Same band, different albums, different moods. |

| batsquad! Awake and Unafraid Age: 34 Gender: Female Posts: 14696 | Okay INO, it's 6:18 a.m. and I have a final at 8 a.m. at a college that 45 minutes away with traffic. But this is the only place that I can let out my excitement. I'M GOING TO SEE THEM TONIGHT! Oh my god. Like, I can't do this. I can't believe it. I know I'll be crying for the first ten minutes. :] I can't wait to tell everyone about it. |

| ceiling cat Thinking Happy Thoughts Age: - Gender: - Posts: 565 | Northern Downpour.: Yeah, I know I'm a little late for this haha but... I get where you're coming from. And I don't mean this harshly at all, but I guess that the NDP kids are getting what they paid for so there's not much we can do about it. But that doesn't mean the show won't be awesome! If you don't get right to the front, that's alright =] You'll still have a pretty rad view, and you'll have heaps of fun on the floor either way. You never know, you may still get to the barrier, because I'm guessing there won't be a heap of NDPs around. At FOB last year there was only a handful of OCKs, so I'm guessing NDP is about as popular as OCK would be. The way I'm attacking the night is, if I don't get to the front, I'm just gonna dance in my own little spot with my friends. We're planning on starting a conga line, so any Melb kids who wanna join in, do so by all means <3 But yeah, how good the night is will depend on what you make it. It doesn't matter if we can't get to the barrier. Just enjoy the night. And in reply to Christopher Gutierrez; as much as I totes heart you and your drawing skillz, I think that the two Panic albums should be viewed separately. Like, they're just so not like each other, and they explain different periods in the band's existence. Saying that one album doesn't live up to the other in this case doesn't do either of them justice methinks. Haha. I should have posted this on HeyChris' eljay. Oh wellz. |
