This is pretty much my first time painting something ~proper (or at least something that isn't just random smudging that ends up being a big black blob at the end) so crits/comments would be nice. (:
Plus my lame-ass poster colors from eons ago dried up and I was only limited to a handful of colors. ): 's not great but I'm still learning - any advice? |

Please direct me to the right place, if I am posting this incorrectly.
For my room, I'm hoping do a painting, and I do art GCSE so I have some experience.
I want to basically paint this onto a canvas.
I was wondering if you had tips etc for how I'd go about this?
I've never done canvas painting before. We usually just go straight on paper or whatever medium we're using.
Thank guys.

Age: 30 Gender: Female Posts: 23925 | June 9th, 2009 at 06:24pm I did a lot of canvas paintings in art, so I can kind of tell you what to do, but I suck at actually doing it.
If you can, get the image blown up and printed on acetate. Then project it on to your canvas and trace it. This makes it much easier to get the drawing exactly the image, but is obviously only possible if you have the facilities.
If you can't do that, definitely get the picture blown up to the size you want. It makes it easier to copy.
Draw onto your canvas in pencil, but very lightly. If you press hard it can be difficult to get off.
Use oil or acrylic paints. If you want to do a black outline of whatever, do it last. And it's easy to do it in black marker rather than trying to paint it.
oh and btw, if you make a mistake, you can go over it easily. I've used the same canvas twice before, so don't worry about that.
hope that was what you were looking for, pm if you have any specific questions. (: |

Thanks for the feedback! sry this reply is pretty late but i've been BUSY. My camera broke while i was photographing some of my work for my portfolio :/ but eventually i'll put a better photo of that painting up. And ya, i'm always pretty bummed out about how much detail is lost in even the best of photographs. I'm sure some of the widows are at least slightly slanted, but some of it i think is from the way it photographed. Like the door on the far right looks like its leaning to the left but its just the way the shadows showed up on the photo.
here's a subway man lol
acrylic on foam core, about 4 inches in depth
level 1-black mat background
level 2-subway station floor

And crimes in the mosh. that's a great painting of The Rumor!
This year was my first real experience with paint. I'm quite proud of this piece actually, though I have a long way to go.
I don't have a scanner, so it's not the best quality.
