I checked for similar threads and couldn't find any so here I go.
Which drummer do you prefer? Matt or Bob? And how did you feel about Matt leaving the band?
Personally I think Matt was a great drummer (as is Bob) but I feel that Bob is much better as a person and puts more heart into performances. Also, Bob seems to get along better with the band which got rid of a lot of tension during performances and improved them greatly so overall, i'd have to say I prefer Bob. |

personally i really love Bob, because he changed the band for the better when he joined... if you listen to interviews from when Matt was still in the band, it's just a lot of screwing around and laughing, and no one really got their meaning yet.. they didn't seem to take themselves or their band's purpose too seriously.. but once Bob joined the band, they seemed to get more focused with the band and their lives in general.. they've said it themselves on LOTMS that Bob teaches them to not take any shit, and that's what they do now.. they don't take anyone's shit and they're more confident with themselves and their band as a result of Bob.. |

no offence, but he is better live too.
and hands down, bob is just a great drummer in general you can tell he loves what he does, has anybody read the Modern Drummer article back from quite a while ago? how he was the depressed sound guy? it speaks for itself and made me sad...i'm so happy for him now =D
i think matt may be better with speed, but you can hear his tempo going all over the place if you pay attention...and he didn't seem to be into improving that much, which i guess adds to why he's gone =/ dunno
and gerard has to make SOMEBODY'S heart burn...
apparently it didn't affect matt's...at least not too much |

However I think the band changed for the better when Bob came overall. |

Age: 30 Gender: Female Posts: 1464 | June 20th, 2008 at 09:47pm Bob's drumming isn't as eclectic as Matt's. Matt's was more punkish and all over the place, and Bob's is more steady. Plus, Bob gets along with Ray, so I guess I like Bob better. |

Age: 32 Gender: Female Posts: 1883 | June 20th, 2008 at 11:48pm Bob completely owns. Yes Matt was good, but he messed up with the band, so Bob had a chance, and he's better and the band likes him better. So I'm sticking with Bob, plus he's way sexier than Matt And I wanna marry the man since he's the only single guy left, and I don't want him to feel left out. Age: 29 Gender: Female Posts: 528 | June 21st, 2008 at 02:31am Bob. All the way. Matt was a good drummer in the studio but not only was he messing up at shows, him and the band weren't getting along. Bob is just an overall better drummer than Matt and him being in the band has obviously bettered the band . And he is DEFINITELY sexier than Matt. plus i kinda love him. x( |

I don't really know anything about Matt, because I became a fan looooong after Matt was out of the picture.
Listening to stuff on Bullets and Three Cheers, it's obvious that Matt had talent with what he did ...
But then I listen to Bob on The Black Parade and at the live shows and stuff ... and he just blows my mind. At the Portland, OR show that I was at, he actually broke his bass drum pedal, he was rockin' out so hard I mean, honestly!
And it's obvious that Bob is much appreciated among the other band members ...

I agree with this 100%. I was a fan when TBP came out, then I listened to the older stuff...and Matt was good, he DID have talent. But he threw it away, he got caught up in the "rock star spotlight" bullshit...and that isn't cool. Plus he kinda reminds me of the guy you see sitting in a trailer, with 500 kids, with stained clothes and a beer in one hand, and scratching his balls with the other ...yeah i dunno |

Age: 43 Gender: Female Posts: 5099 | June 21st, 2008 at 09:37am While I am fully aware that it is Matt's drumming I am hearing on anything pre-mid 2005, I am still going to go with Bob. Personality-wise, Bob has much better chemistry with the dudes, and talent-wise, he is light years ahead of Otter in capability. Bob completes this band, whereas Otter always seemed to be driving a wedge into it, and Bob's work on TBP is some of the finest drumming I have heard in years. |

Age: - Gender: Female Posts: 2601 | June 21st, 2008 at 11:49am well its a pity most of us nvr really got 2 know Matt...but well, I like Bob for more reasons that his fantastic drumming. i love it that he's incredibly shy yet tough & xtremely protective of the others. he truly is the backbone of MCR. every band probly dreams of hvg someone like Bob as a member. |

Age: 29 Gender: Female Posts: 3287 | June 21st, 2008 at 11:49am Bob is BOB. You cannot replae him. You could replace Matt. Evan though his drumming is a bit more punkish and...exciting if you understand what I mean, Bob is a better bandmember than he was. |
