Now, I know a lot of us are on here avoiding our homework, so I thought a thread like this may be helpful for those who are struggling with a particular assignment.
Just post any questions you may have relating to that particular assigment, and if anyone has any information on this subject, hopefully they can help you out!
This is NOT a "have someone do the work for you" type of thread, so don't expect to get out of doing work.
But hopefully you will be able to get some helpful facts or advice from another user.

RULES:

1. ABSOLUTELY NO PLAGIARISM. Do not provide someone with words that were taken from someone else unless you can give them your exact source so they are able to cite them in their assignment.

2. When posing your question, provide your grade level and the class that your question relates to. This may be helpful for other users to know when answering your questions.

3. When answering someone's question, be sure to clarify when you are only speculating or when you are positive about your answer. Try to only answer question's if you are positive you have the correct answer or when you think your advice may be helpful. Also, if you got your answer from a website or book, be sure to provide the person with your source.

Happy helping!

[quote="About.com]Ending is usually
-age = masculine
-eau = masculine
-ée = feminine
-ion = feminine
-té = feminine[/quote]

That isn't always true for every noun, but for a lot it is. That's just the way the language is. It's a pain but really the best thing is to just learn the gender with the noun. You have to know the gender of the word so that when you use articles (un, une, le, la, ect.) adjectives, and (sometimes) verbs you know how to make them agree with the direct object.
______________

My question now.

Class: Precal/Trigonometry

Question: I'm trying to figure out if the function y=[[1/2x]] is continuous at x=3. The way my teacher explained how to do it is to make a t-chart with x values that gradually increase to three and gradually increase above three. (2.5, 2.9, 2.99, 3, 3.001, 3.01, 3.1) I did this, but because of the double brackets you round down to the nearest whole number making the y value 1, 1, 1 and then 1.5, 1.5, 1.5... My teacher said that if the numbers on both sides gradually approach the same number (from the left the number slowly gets larger, from the right slowly smaller) then it is continuous, but if it is the same number over and over again, how do you tell?

2nd Question: When I tried to find the inverse of f(x)=1/x I ended up with f(x)=x.
The correct answer according to the book is f(x)=1/x. I don't understand how that is. When you switch the x and the y you have to get rid of the fraction by multiplying both sides by 1 over 1, which leaves you with x=y. Is that the wrong way to get rid of the fraction?

First off, thanks for making this thread. I always thought there should be a thread like this. =)

9th grade Algebra.

Solving equations are kinda lost on me. I don't need to much help, but I just need some things cleared up.

A question on my homework is, "1/3d = -15"
I'm not sure where to start. Do I flip the reciprical, or..? How do you know what to do?

Also, does anybody know how to convert decimals to fractions or mixed numbers? My teacher makes us do that in our heads, and I just cannot do it.

I feel super stupid, but if anybody could help me even just a little, that would be appreciated.
Sorry, kinda long.

By flip the reciprocal, do you mean multiply both sides by the reciprocal? Scream To Be Heard answered your question, but to elaborate, whenever there is a fraction, just multiply both sides by the reciprocal to get rid of it.

There are certain ones that you'll probably be made to memorize like .25=1/4 and .375=3/8.
I'm assuming you know what the tenth place, hundreth, and so on are. So if it is .2 that's automatically 2/10 which can be rounded down to 1/5.
Ummm. I hope that made sense.

I'd love to answer your first question, but English isn't my native language
so to understand maths in English a bit difficult :p
But for you second question:
so:
f(x)=1/x = y=1/x
1. the first step is as you said: switching y and x
so: x=1/y
2. For an inverse you have to put the y back at the left.
What you did is multiply it by 1/1
x.(1/1)=(1/y).(1/1)
=> x=1/y not y=x
For an inverse you don't have to get rid of the fractions, just switch back y and x .
x=1/y
=y=1/x

I know it hasn't changed but for example if it was
y=(2/3)x +1
1)x=(2/3)y+1
2)Now it changes with the signs of '-' and '+'
x/(2/3)=y+1 (putting (2/3) to the left, you have to divide it to x because it was a multiplication with y)
x.(3/2)=y+1(to make it more easy you can make it a multiplication with x by switching the fraction)
(3/2)x-1=y (because 1 was positive on the right it becomes negative on the other side)

I hope I explained it well

mind: It can be that I learned it differently than you

wiki's always a good place.

you got textbooks? try doing a timeline of major events that happen from the past to the present, then do a short summary on each event.

but to fit all of that history into one page.. that might be a challenge. so i guess, choose the really important events that affect the entire continent (or most of it) and ignore the civil ones if there's not enough space (or just make a small mention of them).

and thanks for the french explanation! but i'm not looking forward to coming across words i don't know in the exam.

Okay, a bit of science help would be appreciated :]

If I have a chemical equation:

Nitric Acid + Sodium Hydroxide -> Sodium Nitrate + Water

Now, putting this into a formulae would be:

HNO[sub]3[/sub] + NaOH -> _________ + H[sub]2[/sub]O

I can figure out the different parts in the Sodium Nitrate by looking at both sides of the equation. I have NO[sub]3[/sub]Na.

My question is, is there any order in which they should go in order? Alphabetical, the order in the periodic table etc.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated =D

Sodium would come first. So it's NaNO[sub]3.

usually the formula would follow the name?

^ Zeros? You mean like setting the equation and sloving. With the abve equation you'd get only one answer seeing as its linear.

12x-1=0
12x= 1
x= 1/12

I'd appreciate knowing If anyone here is in anyway accustomed to anything about Advanced Placement Physics, particlularly Torque Problems. Not exactly looking forward to that assignment.

I'm a history student in college and just have to say...thats a whole lot of stuff to fit into one page!!!!

important points to start off of:

Exploration in 1500-1700s = discovery of Americas and colonization of USA, Canada (oppresion of natives, slave trade, etc) Also results in South American civilizations being wiped out by gold-lusting Spanish.

Renaissance in itself - Rebirth of knowledge and science. Eventually result is science starts to be worshipped how Religion once was, and Religion questioned how science once was.

British Reformation: Henry the 8th put the Church of England under his power, not Rome’s for the first time ever. (Mostly for the reason so he could divorce and marry again... 6 times)

French Revolution in 1789 - huge turning point for social and government structure; Louis 16th was tried and executed, Church lost a lot of power.

Industrial Revolution - brought about steam engine, cotton loom and a bunch of other important technology. Caused mass production and international markets and trade to increase in size.

Overthrowing of Russian Czar Nicolas Romanov II and take over by Bolsheviks - 1917. Russia is technically in Asia, but it had a lot of influence on European powers during WW2. It was one of the most influential polical changes of the 20th century. Russia was behind by at least 150 years... it still had a feudal caste system that most of Europe had stopped using by the 13 or 1400’s. Industrial Revolution at insane rates and Communism caused economic hardship. USSR broke up in 1991 and a lot (10 I think??) of smaller countries gained their freedom that way (Moldovia, Ukraine, Lativia, etc)

World War 1 1914 - 18. Huge impact economically and politically. Lots of death and destruction.
-The Booming 20’s caused huge inflation that resulted in the Great Depression.
-Germany was forced to take full responsibility for the outbreak of war. Their depression started in 1919 after the Treaty of Versailles and they had to pay INSANE amounts of war reparations. Inflation was so bad, money lost all value. They burnt money instead of buying firewood. A loaf of bread cost hundreds of thousands of marks (their currency). Some people say WW2 was a continuation of WW1 because Hitler was bitter about how Germany was treated.

WW2 1939 - 45
- Holocaust etc.
- Resulted in cold war. (arms race between USA and Russia after Nuclear bombings of Japan in ’45)
-Communism in China - Mao Ze Tung and Chinese Civil War.

Berlin Wall – After WW2, Russia occupied half of Berlin until 1989. Wall was broken down at the end of the cold war – symbolic reuniting of West vs East.

...I got a little excited. Sorry! lol

A level maths statistics.
Stats 1, OCR course.
Probablility to be precise:

Question:
Let A and B be events such that P(A)=0.25, P(B)=0.33333...., and P (A united B)=5/12.
a) Find P(A|B) and P(A|B').
b) Find P(A|B) P(B) + P(A|B') P(B').
Comment on your result.

Help, please :]?

Don't worry, worked it out.
