Hi guys, I thought it would be a good idea for us to have a News thread, since I've never heard of anything like this before.
This has been approved by Tallulah
Rules:
- News has to come from a credible source (bbc/reuters/etc) and that all news posted must have a link to the story.
- News has to be some-what current and not 50 years old
- Try and keep it more global or national, rather than local as it won't be open to much disscussion. (Unless it's really ground-breaking local news)
- It should be disscussed in a serious way, post your own opinions and don't just quote everyone elses.
I hope those rules are okay. Let me know if I should add something (:
So, to start what do you think of the approaching Hurricane Gustav on New Orleans?
Are they doing the right thing to evacuate the city?

That and New Orleans really wasn't hit that hard. It's good that they evacuated though, better safe than sorry. |

i think the evacuation of new orleans is, well, i'm on both sides.
it seemed pretty stupid to me that they did an evacuation and put so much attention on it,
it might have made people feel worse because of the press about it, but i understand they were scared, of course.
and i agree with you above, better to be safe than sorry isn't it..
it's just good that it wasn't as strong as they had suspected. |

Just thought that was a funny little tid bit. |

I don't know what will happen to Pakistan; he's totally and completely corrupted and we have enough problems as it is, without him being the president. He'll just embezzle every rupee left in the state treasury now, and I don't know how we'll make it through the next few years with all the inflation =/ |

From the plane crash in New York yesterday,
I hear there's a video of it about somewhere but I can't find it. Thank God everyone survived.
If they hadn't, do you reckon what with it being so close to the end of Bush's term, they would have presumed it was a terrorist attack?

Age: 36 Gender: Female Posts: 20564 | January 17th, 2009 at 12:11am No, I doubt it. I mean, the cause of it was a flock of geese getting caught in the engine, so the evidence was there. I don't think they'd call it an attack, not at all. |

Yeah, I get it. It's not the most pleasant thing, with it feeling 10x worse than a cold or whatever. And the fact thats it spread so easy.
But only 119 people have died.
It's finally reached Australia, with something like 300 cases nationwide.
Some of the schools in Melbourne got to be closed down as well today.

Age: - Gender: - Posts: 9168 | June 4th, 2009 at 04:15pm I don't know, I used to think swine flu was ridiculous.
And I still think it's a bit ridiculous, because it is only a strain of flu.
But it really is frighteningly contagious.
I know that 45 new cases were confirmed yesterday alone in the UK.
What do you guys think about the situation in China, over Tiananmen Square?
