For people to promote programs they're aware of or involved in, or just for people to talk about what they do to make the world a better place. Some depression awareness programs and help lines in Australia are The Kids Help Line Which is a phone line for young people to call if they need someone to talk to about anything. If they're feeling down, if their parents are fighting and they need someone to talk to or if they're being abused and need to tell someone. It's completely confidential so no names are involved and there are some programs run to help sponsor them. Lifeline Which is another phone line, mainly for depression and anxiety but you can call up to talk about any problem it's for people of all ages. It's been promoted on the TV a lot here lately because of a well-known Australian actors suicide. Beyond Blue This is a depression and anxiety awareness program. They have an phone line too, but that's not all it is like the others. Because October is national depression awareness month, it's giving out free packs to people who sign up to help raise depression awareness. The packs have pamphlets and wrist bands and lots of things like that to give to people just so they know that if they're suffering, they don't have to do it alone. So if anyone's involved in anything (any sort of charity at all) or just knows about something and wants to let other people know about it too, please post about it here with a link to the website, and hopefully people can get involved with a number of different charities and programs (: P.S. Mods, I tried searching for a similar thread and I couldn't find one, but if there is and I just didn't see it I'm sorry and please lock it (: |

Anyway, I live in a really poor country, so there's plenty of things to do here. My parents have an asthma treatment clinic sorta place in a the public hospital. Because they don't even have treatments for that, so they help people with asthma that don't even know they have it. It's really nice & it's free :') Personally, I try to go as much as I can to this home where they keep troubled girls who are pregnant/have AIDS/involved in drugs. It's really devastating to see all these girls and hear their stories. We go and sing to them, give them clothes, feed them, and just try to make them feel better. It's really gratifying. Even though they are there to be safe, they're still mistreated, I've even heard of the guards of the place raping them, and they feed them nasty things, and just it's really sad. The place is called IHNFA by the way. :') |

spencer smith. Devil's Got Your Number Age: 32 Gender: - Posts: 36167 | On October 25th (in Sydney, Australia) there's a walk for breast cancer in the city. I'm pretty excited about it, there's awesome photos from last years, and everyone dresses up and wears crazy pink clothes because the National Breast Cancer Foundation has pink ribbons. (: |

t'lema Salute You in Your Grave Age: 33 Gender: Female Posts: 2109 | My friend (who is only 24) started his own foundation to help people with cancer. The link is in my signature, and I just want to plug this everywhere http://huckcancer.com/ You can buy t-shirts/hoodies/and for some reason fugly bobble hats (I'm getting one ) This charity is important to me for a lot of reasons. My friend started it, using his own money to create the ethically sourced clothes at only 23. My grandpa died of leukemia last month. I love to ski, and I'm all for people thinking I have 'fuck' written on my chest when they misread 'huck' Huck means challenge, so the charity's aim is to challenge cancer, and live your life the way you want supporting Macmillan cancer support and Chambery research hospital Show your support! |
dean winchester. Tragic With a Capital T Age: - Gender: - Posts: 45639 | skate 4 cancer is my favourite organization. it's not a charity as some think, as they do not accept donations. but if you do wan to donate, they say to donate to princess margaret hospital. their goal is to raise awareness of cancer and cancer preventions. the founder, rob dyer is honestly the most incredible human being ever. I won't go too much into his background and such, though. but recently (like, last friday) he finished his skateboard across Canada. from vancouver, BC to Halifac, NS. and in 04 he went from LA, California to Newmarket, ontario. rob doesn't do just skates. he goes on tours with bands (like alexisonfire, protest the hero, billy talent, illScarlett, cancer bats, mugshot, matthew johnston. so, mostly canadian bands since he is canadian) and also holds his own tours, like the cure is knowledge tour. and he also does high school tours, where he comes to your school and educates everyone on cancer preventions. he's so amazing, as is the whole skate 4 cancer team.
