Carousels tinkling their soft music
And the horror tunnel whispering its terror
Large stands at the coconut shy
And people milling around with stuffed toys

I’m pretty sure I’ve been here before
Where the ‘Alice in Wonderland’ teacups spun
Where the screams of terror echoed of tunnel walls
My memories struggle to the surface

Oh my, has it really been that long?
In my mind’s eye I see two children
One about thirteen, the other, a little older
They were screaming in wild abandon

I think that was us, I really do
We were holding hands and singing
Belting out lyrics to songs without a care
We were getting glances thrown our way

But what did we care for those clueless fools
Today was our day what we did was our choice
Singing, dancing, screaming, laughing
We were crying, smiling and holding each other close

Come up, come up now lovely lady,
Let them guess your age
That was the man at ‘What’s My Age’
Fifteen I shouted and you blushed in mock horror

Many years now have come and gone past us
Like a light breeze, not to be noticed
If I could halt time, I'd be grateful
But some things just weren't meant to be

Throughout these years you’ve had me wondering
Were we friends or could we have been more
We could have been great friends you say
But I wanted us to be more than that

Would you have run away with me on the darkest September night?
With the stars in the sky fast asleep and the town in dead rest
The neighbor’s dog barking and the streetlamps shining
The only witnesses to our freedom from insanity

I would have begged you to stay that night, given anything for it
But we were so different
I just couldn't keep you

My, my. So much has changed since I last visited. Sorry for the long hiatus. My grades couldn't afford to fall any lower. Looks like I've got a lot of catching up to do. And the poem sounds funny, I've gone kind of rusty. And sides, I have never written a poem that rhymes.

This one was written for a friend whom I wish could have been more. A friend who let me down and made me cry.
