phantoms forever.:
well, i'm saving up for a new dslr....
and i'm debating between the nikon d60 and the canon eos rebel xsi

i've always used nikon and that's what i'm leading towards more, they're much more user friendly so it seems, but i do like the displays on the canon more, much easier to read and more 'organized' as far as the main shooting screen goes...but that's just my opinion.
my photography teacher has 5 of the canons i described above and let's us borrow them, so i've had hands on experience much more with that camera over the nikon. but like i'd stated before i really think i'm gonna go with the nikon. and for equal prices i can get the canon with one lense or the d60 with two.
so....
anybody suggest one over the other/can compare the two in a bit more detail?

just posting this again since it's a new page, in case it might get lost....
and thanks so far for the input =D

Asking again-
I'm on a fairly tight budget and currently only use a cheap Kodak digital camera. I'd like to get a DSLR, so am saving up. The features I'd be using hte most would be macro/super-macro settings, and landscape. I'm not that in to buying extra lenses, since I'll have to pay an arm and a leg for the camera. Any suggestions?

I've used both. The Nikon is way more user-friendly, and their consumer-level cameras have more value - that is, more bang for your buck in terms of sensors, features, and other things.

Well from my experience, macro settings on DSLR's (consumer value ones anyway), it's not the greatest. There is no super macro. My compact has those settings which is really good, so I get what you're saying. But my Nikon D60 doesn't take great macro shots at all, I only have a standard kit lens, you see. To get really good macro shots with a DSLR, you'd really need to buy an additional lens, in my opinion.

AND! I agree with Steff, I've used both too and I favour the Nikon. They even seem to fit nicer in your hand ha ha xD

I've used both and I prefer the canon. xD
It's lighter and I find it easier to use. It's also better/easier to focus on the auto settings, and cheaper (as far as I remember) than the D60.
I use a Canon EOS 1000D, btw. I love it.

Exactly. If you interested enough in macro that you want to buy a DSLR for the purpose, it has nothing to do with the body. You have to buy a macro lens. The only thing a point and shoot does is adjust the fixed lens settings so you can get closer, and even then, it isn't the kind of macro you're looking for. You will have to either buy a macro lens attachment for your kit lens or buy a macro lens. There's not really a way around it.

I was in the dark room today developing some prints, super fun!!
I'm going to have to do one again though, and use a higher filter and expose it for longer. It's not contrasty enough for my liking!
