A Standard For Living

Some would say my home is stark,
Arsenic peppered in my tea,
Cutlasses do leave a mark,
Nooses hanging from my tree,
Yet passersby share on remark,
“What a pleasant place to be!”

Weapon of Choice

A hatchet will not counter divorce,
a morsel made to separate,
It's of no use now, for me, of course,
My desire is to affiliate.

It would assist to destroy my enemies,
and have them begging on their knees,
Yet, no hatchet can retie the ends,
on which our happiness depends.

Yes, a whack of a hatchet could wake me,
And set ablaze the wettest grass,
But a hatchet could not make me,
Get off my very lazy ass.

Séance

You treated me to ice-cream every other day,
You told me I was an insect eroding slowly away,
“You’re just another girl, attracted to the light,”
He told me that I should kill him,
with that talk, I might.

I took my paintings down, just the other day,
I wrote out my will and gave everything away,
They cried, they wept, and I forced myself to say,
“I’ll be going to the light, well, in truth I pray
to heaven, I might.”

Now, far after my cold last breath,
You called me from my rest tonight,
You bring me down, even in death,
But, will I answer? I might, I might.

Barbiturate

You've nursed my ego and cradled it,
from raised atop the highest mountain,
to let me fall down the darkest pit,
I'm forever a barbiturate.

Has my life become an art?
I'm no more a worthless jeer,
A stage where I must act the part?
fragile my words, my meaning tart.

Observing, deeming me unfit,
Is your anguish worth the jeer?
Sure, I can embellish it,
But, I'm still a barbiturate.

If You've Ever Swallowed A Spider,
You'll Know What I'm Talking About

Every night my eyes do weep,
But my mouth keeps them company,
Every night my mind does fret,
My hands do help it to forget,
Yet, if I’m sad just one degree,
No one’s there to comfort me.

Mother

Mother, I belong to you,
Pure with no distortion,
May God forgive you,
For never having an abortion.

Mother, you give me life,
Protect me from deception,
You caused the world great strife,
For never using contraception.

Mother, all our happy days!
Talking, smiling, joking,
Decisions which I shall not praise,
Quitting drinking, quitting smoking.

Mother, I belong to you,
You watched me as my life unfurled,
I don’t think God will forgive you,
For bringing me into this world.

Please comment, damn it.
