I have to admit, whichever band wins I'll be happy. They're both amazing.

11:43 AM EDT:
We're just hours away from revealing the winner of MTV's Musical March Madness tournament, and while we're busy counting all the votes (nearly 200,000), we figured it would be a good time to hear from the two bands battling it out for the championship: Coheed and Cambria and My Chemical Romance.
On Tuesday night, just as polls were closing, we reached out to both acts for comment on their rather remarkable tournament runs. Both bands' fan-fueled marches to the title game saw them knock off the likes of Pearl Jam, 30 Seconds to Mars, Paramore, Phish and Tokio Hotel, to name just a few. It's been a dream tourney for both, and while only one band will come out on top, both are pretty amazed by the outpouring of support they've received.
"The thing that has held up Coheed and Cambria through all these years is our fans. They really came to bat for this contest, and it is humbling to say the least," the band said in a statement emailed to MTV News. "Year of the Black Rainbow is our year, and their year! Thanks, MTV News, for giving our fans this platform to interact with so many other fans, it's been so fun to watch."
My Chem couldn't be reached for comment — they're currently working on their much-anticipated new album (sans drummer, as far as we can tell) — but they've been following the March Madness action pretty closely, as their Twitter accounts and blog postings can attest to.
"MCRmy is a f--ing hurricane, thank you all," guitarist Frank Iero tweeted after his band advanced to the championship. "It's not about us winning a fake title, it's about you being a force that no one can f--- with."
"A heartfelt thanks for voting for us in the MTV March Madness thing. ... Even after being away for a bit, it feels really good to know you are all still with us, ready to strike when called to arms!" guitarist Ray Toro wrote on MCR's official site. "I'm not sure what it all means, but it's always fun to win stuff, so keep voting! I once won $25 on a scratch off lotto ticket, and I can guarantee winning the MTV thing will feel at least three times as good as that."
We can promise you, Ray, that if MCR pull it off, you'll feel way better than $75 (there's a trophy and everything). The results of MTV's Musical March Madness tournament will be revealed this afternoon on MTVNews.com. Stay tuned! |
