Willow
I push your hanging branches aside
and expose your core,
gnarled and weathered
by feet and hands that grasp,
climbing ever higher.
As I walk toward you,
I am enveloped in silence
until something cracks underfoot;
glossy brown glass
would be better appreciated
somewhere else.
I place my hand upon
the nearest, sturdiest bough.
You're scarred,
by knives that pierce
almost as deep
as the words they form.
Dear Willow,
I see now why you weep.
You know only bad company,
and everything is short
from your point of view. |

Sadness is blue like the sea on the horizon late at night,
and also like the sky as the day is nearing its end.
It sinks in the pit of my stomach.
It reminds me of the times when I thought my face would freeze in a smile,
and it makes me wish it would've.
It makes me feel so cold and small and forgotten.
It makes me want to close my eyes and sleep forever. |

I've always found it difficult to wrap up my poems but I like how you do it for these two pieces, almost effortlessly. Looking forward to more of your work! (: (: |

Under a starlit sky
Mourning doves and rattlesnakes
Sing to the daffodils
Bobbing on the waves
Clocks melt, but it makes no difference;
It is and always will be
Quarter to yesterday.
They bottle our dew-drop tears
And sell them to the Mission
In exchange for the sun
Lassoed red, burning hot,
Like that summer in a peach grove
Long ago...
I count the minutes backwards,
Surrounded by crooked salesmen
And winking geishas,
Surfacing just in time to watch
The blue stallion dance and sing;
The rhythmic heart of the Aboriginal drum
Lulling me to sleep
Forever
In a place of never
Just for you and I. |

Love to the death,
Kisses burning skin.
Hearts covered in fractures:
Sour feelings crawl in.
Lust laced with poison,
Thoughts strewn with sin.
Anger and fear;
Longing and shame;
All different words,
All mean the same:
A tainted romance's
Alias names.
Slamming shut doors;
Never to be free.
Complete inability
To leave willingly.
Love to the death,
Literally. |

Shine,
Smallest star,
And I will see you!
Chirp,
Newly hatched chick,
And I will hear you!
Blow,
Gentlest wind,
And I will sense you!
Rejoice!
Great be every gift!
This Earth is born again! |

Why do you cry?
You have everything you've always wanted.
With the world caged in your teeth,
And its inhabitants -
Marionettes.
You ask for more?
Why do you cry?
I love you, he said.
More than to your liking.
Have you never sought love
In the guise of
Barrel and trigger?
This place -
Unbarred -
These people -
Unstrung -
Bullet wounds cry, but
You cry no more. |
