What do you think? I think they are, but I still like them. I just wish they'd cheer up a little, know what I mean?

What are your views on the matter?

That there's no such thing as emo anymore. =D

Edit:// oh and I think that this should remain open because I think we could have some nice discussions on this matter.... but the thread title is a bit too accusatory or something... maybe changed to MCR & Emo or something, if ok with the OP...?

I mean like when you wear black and act all sad and cut and stuff. I'm not trying to be offensive, I just want to know what people think about all of this.

Who even (openly) cuts in the band that you can say they cut, jw? They don't act sad in public either, tbqh.

See the definition of emo you're using is the MTV shit-ified version that people use to more describe a "life style" and type of fashion than the real definition of emo that no longer exists in today's day and age.

Changed the title to make the title less... finger pointy. OP, you'll only get attacked and no discussions will start like you want, only fights and whatnot. Then the thread gets locked and then the thread goes bye bye...

This whole "emo" thing died quite a while ago.

Also, can't help notice the OP's use of the words "act all sad",
particularly the word "act".

I think they used to be very "emo," in the sense that they were very into the wearing black, death-obsessed, dark personality type of fashion. However, that was a long time ago, and I think they've grown up and moved on. This album is a perfect example of that. They've gotten a little lighter. Which is not to say softer. They're not going soft at all. Just...happier, I guess.

Oh, thanks for fixing the thread up for me, Fabulous Killjoy. =)

What's the other definition of emo? The non-'MTV' one? I've never heard of another kind, that's all. =/

Lunacy- I'm sorry I don't really get what you mean with the 'act' part. Embarassed Do you mean like they really are sad, or what? I'm just a bit confused. DX

Royal.Boom-Yeah, that's exactly how I feel. =)

I think maybe years ago they were what MTV called emo, but as far as what emo originally was, probably not. But since they are brighter and more colourful now they can't really be put into that stereotypical category anymore.

I believe he meant that they just "pretend" to be sad, when they really aren't.

Okay, I've only been an MCR fan for a few months but.....
I don't think they ever were emo, in the stereotypical sense of the word or any other one. The thing is, while all that emo stuff was going on MCR wasn't in that. They've always of been something different. Whenever you see a video or old interview of them they never acted sad or anything they were always smiling. I've never heard any such thing about any of them cutting so I'm pretty sure that's false. As far as how they dressed.....that was more of a costume type thing. Like in Revenge they would wear suits and sometime fake blood and then of course TBP costumes. It was part of their theatrics, which has always been a huge thing for MCR. I don't think emo fits in anywhere with them. I mean, Gerard even said "emo is a pile of shit" so...I think that kind of settles that. The band has never seen themselves as emo. As far as the media goes though.....they label anything that isn't autotune emo basically. The term emo is thrown around for anything slightly heartfelt or different. Some people say "that's so gay". Now people say "that's so emo". The term is so overused....it's just a label. MCR is MCR. 4 guys who make wonderful music that comes from the heart. If people want to call that emo, so be it. I call it talent and compassion.

From my perspective of emo, I think that they are. But I love what I would consider "emo."

I do not think they are, they even said they were not. They have "emotional" music, which shows that they are just letting out their feeling in the songs.
