If you have insurance then Gardisil doesn't cost much, if anything at all, and it didn't sting for more than a minute or two so it's not like it's monumentally painful.

In england, and possibly the rest of the British Isles they are planning to give it to all 12 year-old girls in schools free of charge, the same as they do with BCG, and in some schools the polio and MMR

I suspect that Pfizer Corp. is presenting deliberatly mis-leading information conserning the STD called Human Pappimilla Virus, and their vaccine, for 1 thing, the suppression of a body of evidence which shows this virus causes prostate/testicular cancer in men, in fact, a blood test can determine if a man is a carrier, and this has Not been made available to the public as far as I know, the only way a woman gets it is unprotected sex with a man, it seems to me that Pfizer wants to use females as guina pigs so they don't want to really warn any woman but lead her to believe she'll be "safe" I may be a conspiracy theorist but the commercials show an all female world with not even a male dog in sight.,

I support the idea of a HPV vaccine, but I don't think that this one is good enough. I mean, 70%? Yeah, it's better than 0%, but that could be very misleading, especially with their commercials ("I wanna be one less" ). If you have HPV you don't automatically get cervical cancer, and I think that the rate of protection should be higher-90%, at least, before they use commercials like that.

I would kind of like to point something out.

1. A girl last year at my school got hers and she passed out 5 minutes after and was out for about 2 minutes, and it was just before I had to get mine too.

2. When i got the first one i was dizzy and everything and almost passed out, and that happened all through the day. I got sick that night like i had a cold, and I was off school for a week. I had never been that sick in my whole life, they said i just had a severe reaction to it. Whatever dudes.

3. I got the second one, got sick again, HAD A MONTH OFF SCHOOL, and I was just sick I could not get rid of it, again they said I had a 'severe' reaction. I dodn't think so to be honest.

4. I AM STILL SICK EVEN AFTER MORE THAN A YEAR. And I have never gotten rid of it, my mum wouldn't let me get the last one cos it was just so bad the 'reactions' I was getting from it. This year, I have had so much stuff wrong with me, I keep getting headaches, really bad ones, i have had to have a CT Scan, I had an MRI a week ago, and and eye test, I get paranoid, dellusional, shake sometimes for nothing, can't talk properly sometimes, and the doctors said I might have a growth or something on my brain.

I have NEVER hd anything like this happen to me before, it all started after I got that needle, I know I am only one person and it probably doesn't mean anything, but still. Oh and I have ALWAYS had a very good immune system i never got sick, i would get a runny nose yeah, but not full on sick.

Oh an there was a thing on the news last year that said some girls in some other country that I can't remember actually died from it, and they called that a 'severe' reaction.

Maybe I'm just paranoid, but I am definitely not letting my kids get it if they haven't wiped it by then.

I got my first shot this morning and I really hope it was worth it.
It was fine for the first 5 or 10 minutes, but then my arm started hurting really badly. I was lightheaded, dizzy, and hot, like I had a fever. I felt like I was going to faint. My arm still hurts enough to make me cry (and I have a fairly high pain tolerance) and I'm still a bit dizzy. I know they're just common side effects, but still...

I honestly wish my mom would've allowed me to wait a few years until they've done more research on it. I'm still wondering if it really works in the long run or if it just works for a few years.

I was supposed to get those shots. . .but then our insurance wouldn't cover it. I think it is a good thing because it can't be a bad thing to have them, right? It does lower the risk, and those of you who can't deal with the pain of a little shot, how will you deal with the actual disease if you get it? Its worth a little bit of pain from a needle because it could prevent HPV and cervical cancer.

I've had all of the shots, and they all went well Smile
I found the last one hurt more than the others, but that might have been because I was tensing my arm. Lol.
But they all went well Smile
So I'm happy that I got them. I was scared and a bit wary at first, but now I definately do not regret it.
Sure, it doesn't fully protect you, but it will help!

i honestly don't think there has been enough time for it to be tested properly. i'm thinking i'm gonna wait a few years then see if there have been any negative effects on the people who have had it done. just remember, they used to think thalidomide was a good thing. i just don't think it's safe to be experimenting like this.

ummm.... scientific facts about Gardasil? can you say, "CROCK OF SH!T?"

it doesn't prevent cervical cancer... it HELPS PROTECT against 4 of the innumerable types of HPV that COULD cause 70% of the cases of cervical cancer...
it doesn't cure the virus... it most certainly isn't a preventative for cancer...

the major dug companies piss me off b/c they pass this damn thing off as a cure of cancer... like i said... it's nothing more than a CROCK OF SH!T.

advice to all you other women out there... do some research... and make sure that you get all of the facts straight... it's not worth the risk of thinking your protected and having something fcuk up the rest of your life because you didn't take the time to google a few things....

PLEASE BE CAREFUL!!! i've seen too many bad things happen to women who weren't...
In all the commercials it says, "Gardisal will not treat cervical cancer."

I'm the getting the shot free next year because I live in Scotland. After reading through some of the stories I'm kind of apprehensive about it, but I think that if it reduces my chances of getting cancer. I'll take it

I saw a news report that says Gardisil could cause paralysis (usually temporary,) but they aren't sure. Still, even if it doesn't completely prevent cancer, it's better to have some protection. I've known three people who have died from cancer in the past seven months, and that's just people in the little city I live in, not all cervical cancer, but still cancer, that's just scary to me. I got the shot, my arm swelled up and hurt for awhile, and made me dizzy and tired, but I personally think it's worth a week of pain in my arm and a few hours of fatigue if it's going to lower the risk. My friend passed out after getting the shot, only for a few seconds, but she keeps going back for the next ones.
I really think it's worth the amount of pain it causes in the long run, it's really not that bad, though I'd prefer it didn't have any type of side effects, of course, but everything has some side effects.

All the severe reactions people have listed are probably just that, sever reactions. It could be because you are allergic to something in the shot. I can't take normal flu shots because I'm allergic to one of the components.
I've had all the Gardisil shots and nothing bad has ever happened. Neither has anything happened to any of the other girls I know who have gotten them. In the long run, it's better to be safe than sorry. If you have a bad reaction as your doctor about it.

There doesnt seem to be a topic on this yet so I made one. I just got this shot today, the first of the series of shots...

What do you think about the HPV shot, is it worth it? Does it really prevent 70% of cervical cancer cases? What do you think?

is the shot like just a shot to your arm? like, you don't have to get naked for someone in order to get it?

It's three shots in the arm over a period of time. you get the first shot and then, I think 2 months later you get the second, and so on.

I got the vaccine soon after it came out and I was a bit reluctant at first, but I soon got my facts straight. At first, I only thosught that you could get HPV by sleeping around and having unprotected sex, but I found out that you can also get the disease from your from your partner when you're married, so abstinence (even though, in my opinion, it's great) isn't always the answer to prevent HPV or other STDs.
Also, just because some people have reactions to the vaccine, that doesn't mean that people should be afraid of getting it. It's very unfortunate that people are allergic to it, but that's why they have you sign a disclaimer and you should be fully aware that you might have a reaction before you get the shot. I personally don't think that the vaccine should be taken off the market because just because some people have a bad experence with the vaccince, that doesn't mean that it's not helping to save thousands of lives. Take peanuts for example, just because some people are allergic, doesn't mean that thousands of other people can't enjoy them.
You just have to look at it in a "glass half full" way instead of a "glass half empty" way in my opinion. :]

i think the vaccination is a good thing and some people do have bad reactions to it but that doesnt mean it is bad, every firl in my school got the shots and there has been no news of anyone dying or fainting or anything. some people just have bad reactions, but that shouldnt make other people not get it , cause everyone is different. i got it and it hurt a bit and that was all, same with all my friends. i dont think people should right it off beacuse they have heard some horror stories about it, every medicine in this world has side effects. and in the end, some people just react worst than others.
and i think its not promoting sex for teens, its just being safe if something does arise. thats why theres sex ed, their not promoting sex they are just making sure you know the risks and means of protection. i go to an all girls catholic school and they still gave the shot to us. it doesnt mean they weree encouraging it.

I think its overblown to give you a false sense of security and it probably has side effects that won't show forabout ten years damn me for getting to of the shots
