The current members are:
Dave Gahan - Vocals
Martin Gore - Keyboards, essentially anything else, and main songwriter
Andrew Fletcher - Keyboards
Vince Clarke and Alan Wilder were previous band members, Vince Clarke moving off to Erasure, and Alan Wilder pursuing Recoil, his side project.
They're a synthpop group, formed in the '80s and continuing on to the present day, with their most recent album, Playing the Angel, released in 2005, and there are rumors of a new album to be released in late '08.

Hmmm. My favorites right now are Never Let Me Down Again, Black Celebration, Strangelove, New Dress, and Stripped, probably. I just got those two albums the most recently, haha. Too hard to decide. D:
I have Playing the Angel, Songs of Faith and Devotion (my parents actually own that one), Violator, Black Celebration, Music for the Masses, and Some Great Reward. My goal is to end up with all their CD's, but they have quite a few. Does anyone know which one I should get next? D:
