I love how she's been taking the issues that she's dealt with and using them in any way she can to help others get through what she has. It's inspiring.

ETA - the interview:
17: What’s your message to teenage girls?

Demi Lovato: If you are going through that dark period, go to your family and closest friends. Don’t put yourself in danger. It’s very crucial that you get your feelings out — but don’t ever inflict harm on your own body because your body is so sacred. I wish I could tell every young girl with an eating disorder, or who has harmed herself in any way, that she’s worthy of life and that her life has meaning. You can overcome and get through anything.

17: Have there been times recently when you feel like it could be so tempting to go back to your old dangerous habits, like eating disorders?

DL: Yes, there have been times when I definitely have been tempted to get rid of my dinner. But I will deal with it for the rest of my life because it’s a life-long disease. I don’t think there’s going to be a day when I don’t think about food or my body, but I’m living with it, and I wish I could tell young girls to find their safe place and stay with it.

17: How do you keep yourself in a safe place?

DL: I don’t let anyone’s insecurities, emotions, or opinions bother me. I know that if I am happy, that’s all that matters to me. And it’s okay to be selfish like that sometimes, when it comes to your well-being. Do what makes you happy, and don’t care what others think.

17: How do you define your personality now that you’re out of treatment?

DL: I don’t really define it by anything. I live my life every day, and if I feel like wearing combat boots one day and shoes the next, I will. I allow myself a lot of freedom and I’m very peaceful now. I have come to realize that just making yourself happy is most important. Never be ashamed of what you feel. You have the right to feel any emotion that you want, and to do what makes you happy. That’s my life motto.

SHE OFFICIALLY QUIT SONNY WITH A CHANCE.

"It made sense for me to go ahead and leave the show to focus on my music. It's kind of sad for me that a chapter of my life has ended but there couldn't be a better time for me to move on … I don't think going back to Sonny would be healthy for my recovery. Being in front of a camera would make me nervous."

Honestly, I can't imagine myself having any interest at all in the show without her. Apparently, they're just changing it to be entirely based on "So Random!" and I've never found those segments particularly amusing anyway.

I was hoping she'd return to Sonny but if she's not comfortable with it then best of luck to her. She probably wanted out of Disney too, period.

She made the show, tbh. So does this mean she's done filming it altogether, or will she be on at least one more show to do a "good bye" type thing?

I hope so, but I doubt it. If she says she can't be in front of the cameras, then that probably means not at all, and Disney Channel's never been very good at closure anyway.

Her GMA-20/20 interview where she just tells her entire story.

It's so upsetting; I was just crying watching it. Everything that she's gone through, and how she's come out of it. I'm really proud of her. It's got to take a lot of courage to be so open about what she's kept secret for such a long time, even just to one person. But when you know how many people are going to be watching, and that not all of them will be so accepting? Serious courage.

Some parts especially bothered me/touched me/made me cry ridiculously. How she wouldn't have cared if she'd gone too far, for one, and her face when she said it. As if she was just stating a fact, that she just simply wouldn't have cared whether she lived or died. It takes a lot to get to that point, and it breaks my heart that she was there. Then why she began in the first place, how she had suicidal thoughts when she was seven, thinking of her sister to get through it.

And her mom, not being able to wake her up in the mornings because she knew how serious it had gotten and was afraid of what she might find. This bothered me in a completely different way, where it just made me angry. If you know how dark your daughter's life is, you get her help. You don't just go on, pretending as if it isn't happening. I couldn't believe it. Who would honestly allow their daughter to continue living in so much pain and not even try to help her?
