vivpencz Killjoy Age: - Gender: - Posts: 3 | Why do you enjoy dressing up like My Chem, and why do you think this is such a common part of fan culture? What makes people want to dress up like their idols? Any answer anyone could give (just 1-3 sentences) would be much appreciated, and if you do answer I'd need your name and age please. If you don't want to write that info here, you can email me at vivianpencz@gmail.com. |
brother nero; Always Born a Crime Age: - Gender: - Posts: 6778 | hi c: I think it's kid of harsh to say that we dress like MCR because we like that band Somehow the question seems to assume a that we're all a manufactured emo product, and I've never known an MCR fan like that. Actually a lot of fans don't dress like the band at all. I do know people who dyed their hair red because of Gerard...and I copy some of their makeup...I think it's important to be yourself though, and the band never said to copy them. I think most of the bands fans try to be themselves, and adapt a few ways that the guys dress because they feel that it sums them up equally well...the feelings behind the music influence the fashion, and that's shared by some bands and their fans. Look at the whole "punk" movement. Why it's a common part of fan culture I don't know. I've got to say I never noticed it. Fashion is a big part of music today, maybe that's why. |
vivpencz Killjoy Age: - Gender: - Posts: 3 | whisper in the wind: Hey, thanks for the reply Just to clarify though, I never said that all MCR fans dress like the band or try to be somebody other than themselves, like an emo carbon copy or anything. In fact, I wouldn't even describe MCR's style as "emo." Sorry if my question came off that way. There are many My Chem fans though that do like to emulate the band's aesthetics in some way for one reason or another, and they're who this question is more directed towards. For example, I have no problem admitting that one of the main reasons I started wearing heavy eyeliner is because I was trying to emulate Gerard Way, haha. Not because anyone told me to, but for my own reasons, one of them being this band's influence and my emotional attachment to them. I like what you said about "the feelings behind the music influencing the fashion" though. Would you mind if I quoted you with that? I'd just need your name and age, and you can email me that info if you wanna keep it private, like I said in my OP. |

summertime Fabulous Killjoy Age: 29 Gender: Female Posts: 102 | Hey, don't know if this is too late but...Thought I'd answer anyway Since I became a fan of MCR I've definitely been wearing more black, heavier eye make-up, dressing a little less conventional etc. I was always into that sort of style, even back when I was a kid, way before I knew anything about the band. But I think MCR really encourage people to be individuals and accept themselves for who they are, so I stopped trying to fit in with the crowd and now I'm fine to look a little more alternative. Hope that helps! I'm Rin, 16, btw. |
