always:
^I don't think that would. It seems to me like being transgender is a choice, for those people, they didn't choose to be born both genders. That would be classified more as intersex
if you're talking about surgery, that's not "being transgender".
transgender is a larger category, and can include those who feel like their gender and sex don't match up, but some are fine with that.
transsexuals are the ones who want to change their body to fit.
however, some still don't decide to have surgery, but generally that's because
1. it's expensive and much of this stuff isn't covered by insurance.
2. it's imperfect, particularly ftm surgery.
3. some people choose to have hormones and not surgery, some others (much less frequently) get surgery and not hormones.
4. if you take hormones, you're stuck taking them for the rest of your life.

so it's by no means some miracle cure, and there are many issues involved in choosing to have surgery or not that aren't actually related to the issue of identity.
but I don't think it's as much of a choice as you're considering it.
I mean, honestly, for me at least, if at some point it becomes clear that I will never get at least hormones and probably surgery and I'll be stuck as a woman forever, I will commit suicide. I can't deal with living the rest of my life out like this.
so yeah. I mean, that's just me because I can't speak for anyone else, but it's something that really means a lot, not just a casual, oh, that'd be nice.

also, with intersex, surgery is the same kind of "choice".

I think gender change surgery is fine, as long as the patient is positive that they want to go through with it.

I have a great respect for mtf transexuals because between ftm and mtf, they get the most abuse and the most media coverage and for the most part they put up with it even when it would be "easier" to just give up.

Its perfectly acceptable for a woman to don men's clothes, and for ftm that's an easy part of transitioning because no really batters an eyelid.
The moment a man puts on a dress? Make up? High heels?

Even with surgery and hormones the science isn't perfect for mtf's and they still put up with everything because its their life and they have a right to do whatever the hell they want to do with it.

I should have never come back to INO.
Oh my god.

I start here as someone completely different.
Years later, I find myself.
I come back and there are actually people here who thinks its /wrong/ to be transgender.

Like it can be helped.
Right. Okay.

So much for INO's old open-minded family-like community, eh?

Firstly, that comment has nothing to do with the actual discussion.
Secondly, the last post in this thread was made over six months ago, and until three posts ago the thread hadn't been touched since 2009.
Thirdly, this comment also has nothing to do with the actual discussion, rendering me a wanna-be mod and a hypocrite.
