I certainly don't think it detracts from MCR's music or hinders their image (except in the eyes of homophobic people, in which case no one should care).
I would understand the discomfort with Frerard if they acted that way only to get attention that their musical talent doesn't already merit on its own, but I'll enjoy Frerard until, if ever, that is the case. |

2) it has a purpose, which is to make people (not just "homophobes"  uncomfortable and to get them to think about why that makes them uncomfortable.
3) making the visual point that your sexuality and identity is just fine, even if you feel like a freak, is just as valid as any rousing speech, perhaps even more so in the wake of recent LGBT suicides.

Them: " Isn't that the gay Jared boy?"
Me: " He's not gay!"
Them: " He is. Didn't he kiss that other boy in the band?"
Me: " Yes ... but he's not gay!"
Them: " Boys kissing boys is gay , Chelsea"
Me: " Yes ... but he's not gay! He's married!"
Them: " To a girl? Or a boy?"
Me: " A girl!"
Them : " That's probably just to cover up his gayness"
That's really annoying. And even though I know they're not gay and that should be all that matters, i really wanna flip when the girls in my class point at my pics and say "Eww! Gay emos!" |
