When I started reading it back in December of 2011, I was in the middle of a major depression, stuck in a situation I hated but was too afraid to try and escape. When I read the scene where Jade slaps her sprite self around and tells her to stop feeling sorry for herself, something resonated in me. I cried. I finally realized that no one was going to save me and I had to believe in myself and take action. I got the courage to find a new job and get my own apartment, and my whole life changed for the better. And on a less serious note, in my attempts to cosplay from Homestuck, I finally learned to knit.
I've always sort of found that scene as analogous to suicide contemplation and depression in general... |
