Age: 27 Gender: Female Posts: 351 | February 14th, 2011 at 07:04pm The female voice in this song, played by Liza Minelli, is the character Mother War. Even though the song is told from the point of view of two people, a mother and son, it really represents the sick, twisted realities and tragedies of war (war being both literal war, and metaphorical war; life). Soldiers in the war know that they will more than likely die. They're scared, sick, and full of regret and yet a part of them loves the simplicity and brutality of it. Human nature has its own little closet of bloodlust and self-preservation that usually only comes out in dire circumstances. This otherwordly reality is what all soldiers face in their relationship with war. It's the epitome of a love/hate situation. The "son" knows that he will die in this war and that it is his "mother's" fault, and yet he feels he hasn't done enough for her. |

"Stop asking me questions, I hate to see you cry" - The mother is asking questions, and crying from worrying about the death of her son.
"Well Mother, what the war did to my legs and to my tongue." Is pretty obvious.
"But there's shit that I've done with this fuck of a gun."
i completely agree but wat dus but wat does thet last 1 mean |
