don't aim to please.:xPaigeKillzx:I think this could actually be really good for mcr; it will get them a lot of attention for sure. I see what you mean. But it feels so wrong to look at it that way. So exploitative...
Ok this is very difficult subject to approach due to the nature of what has happened, but I don't think saying:
"This could actually be really good for MCR" is appropriate AT ALL.
I really don't think the victims families would appreciate it and I sure don't think MCR would either, I certainly know I don't.
Also, I absolutely see the relevance of the song Teenagers to the events in Virginia, but this was at a college campus - NOT a school, therefore the students would be adults not Teenagers, so if this does start a revolt against music and in particular MCR and this song, then the people who induce it will be ignorant and purely looking for a scape-goat.
And as far as I know MCR actually wrote the song as a response to events such as Columbine and they way society is now structured, if people are too arrogant and naive to see this then they have no right to condem them or any other musicians.
If this does happen then the whole entertainment industry needs to be looked at, Video Games, Movies, Comics, TV programmes, the Internet etc........ are all as easy to blame. Maybe people should start looking at the ethics of the country and way the government is run, who has the right to hold a musician responsible for the actions of a stranger when the President is unable to justify his actions, although second hand, he gives the final orders for war and the murder of hundreds of innocent people.
I apologise if I have gone off-topic slightly but, let's look at the big picture, and until all the facts have been issued by the police as to what happened and if they find out why, then let's hope that there are not more repurcussions than the tragedy of those who have lost their lives. |

Age: 34 Gender: Female Posts: 492 | April 18th, 2007 at 02:01am ^^ I heard they were listening to Manson on the day of, but maybe I'm mixed up with something else. And I agree, people are wanting to kind of a scapegoat for this. Hopefully, they'll all be stupid enough not to connect MCR's teenagers and the shootings.
When I heard about the shootings the first thing that came into my mind was the chorus of Teenagers. 33 people...what has this world come to?
My prayer for victims and family. Unfortunately, I can only offer hope and words at this point. And...in a college, where you're focused on education and everything's still developing. It breaks my heart for the victims that won't be able to graduate, and for the families that won't be able to see them graduate.
Well, it seemed to have been confirmed by several sources that the shooter was asian, one site said chinese, and another said Korean. I read that the S. Korean president has offered condolences and hope there is no racial backlash as a result of this. Which, among many other things, I hope too. |

Age: 35 Gender: Female Posts: 596 | April 22nd, 2007 at 12:10am Damn Jenni, you've done it again. You read my mind and I envy your ability to be able to write with such eloquence and persuasiveness. How do you know our country so well? Don't you live in the UK? As much as I want to go there, I don't understand a damn thing on how it works over there nor the current events.
Anyways, back on topic (sorry), it'd be really nice if they didn't delay the release of Teenagers. I hope the people who sees the video aren't too ignorant to think that a band like MCR might be the ones to blame for the violence in this country. They shouldn't think anything of it unless they were saying/singing something like, "The people in America sucks, you should kill them all. DO IT!", you know, a message like that.
The media can't be blamed for an individual's actions, it's all about their mental state. |

Age: 31 Gender: Female Posts: 2482 | April 22nd, 2007 at 01:28pm I think it would be best for MCR to not release the video so soon after the attack as many many people are still grieving so it's best for them not to see a video maybe about a school shooting.
Saying that, I personally, do not have a clear idea of what the videa might show, so it may be suitable for release as it may not link in with the idea of school shootings. |

Age: 30 Gender: Female Posts: 34353 | April 11th, 2008 at 02:44am It may get attention.
But not the right attention.
Although the song obviously went with it.
By the lyrics of course.
But, I also wonder if the people who presented the new topic knew the meaning for the song.
It was about violence and schools and stuff &
I'm sure they just wanted a related topic to go without.
I'm pretty sure they didn't want any bad publicity for the band. |
