Poem 1

Eclipse
Sonnet.

I spy and eclipse, in all its glory,
glows fiery golden, glaring brightly,
appears, at first, to be a midnight sun,
like a golden goddess, compared to none.
Yet subtle, set in a velvety black sky,
darkness pure, untainted by scars starry.
Dimmer than the sun; brighter than the moon,
it charms me as always; I sit, I swoon
at the midnight ship, floating through dark air,
though as the eclipse ebbs away, we mourn.
And the sun re-appears, like breaking dawn,
I stare as this moment is held for me,
held before me, forever dawn I see.
