Cigarettes And Suicide:
Is it just me, or does anybody else think that stretched lobes are lame?
I mean, fashion statements are fashion statements, but God, think of the long-term - when you're going for a job in a bank at 27 and you have earlobes hanging down to your chin, what do you think your chances are?
At least with standard piercings, you can take them out and get just a little scar that usually fades to nothing.
I don't know, I know it has nothing to do with me what others do with their bodies, but I just think stretched lobes are the epitome of short-sightedness.
Besides, they tend to look pretty crap to me anyway.
Yeahhhhh, I mean huge 2 inch plugs tend to look ridiculous.
But I think all the way up to maybe 1/2, they just look dainty & cute.
Plus most people don't go above 2 cause they won't go back if you go that high.
So it's not really long-term for everyone . . .
Plus, if you absolutely HAD to, you could get the surgery to fix them.
Atleast it's not like gauging your, I don't know, labret, where the hole there is pretty much right in the middle of your face and you can't hide it.
Plus, it's never as bad as those people that get like, "CUNTCORE!" tattooed on their lips, or "Fuck" and "You" on their eyelinds.
(two people I know have those e_e)

My friend is insisting on piercing her own belly button.
Any advice I can give her?
She's doing it secretly so she probably can't do it professionally.

Could show her this. Maybe that helps, maybe it doesn't, but it's informative.

I am so getting a left antibrow as my nineteenth birthday present to myself.

And my job will allow facial piercings as long as I cover it with a blue bandaid.

Oh, the blue bandaid thing?

I can't have visable piercings or tattoos where I work, even if I am in the back.
The alternative is to cover them with a blue bandaid or take them out, as my
manager told me. For the first while, I'll have to cover it, because I obviously can't
take it out while it is still healing.

I think it'd be tripierced, or tri-pierced.

I've been wanting, for a while now, to get a piercing. My two tattoos needs to be fixed and I know I should get them done, but I think I'm just going to get the piercing instead.

Haha, I always hated wearing damned band-aids over my piercings for work. Luckily my eyebrow is a few years old so I can leave it out for hours on end... but I never understood why a tragus was so offensive it has to be taped up.
It's essentially an ear piercing, if you ask me.
And piercings as birthday presents are the shiz, I try and get one for every birthday and Christmas lol... that and tattoos as 'presents'. I just won't be able to get ANY cool presents this year because none of the piercers/tattooists in town will touch me while I'm heavily pregnant.
'Risk of blood infection' my ass - it's exactly the same risk level as if I weren't pregnant, and you have no qualms about piercing 3450285023 people a day, why should I be any different?

any advice on easing the pain and healing?
Question one: how long have you had the ear-piercings? Some people have the lucky knack of being able to leave piercings out for hours on end and not have them close over once they've healed (about 10 weeks to heal completely), others will never be able to leave jewellery out without the hole either shrinking slightly (causing pain when inserting the jewellery again) or outright closing up. I'm one of the people in the middle - my earlobes (which I've had since I was 9 months old, so 20 years) can be left out, my eyebrow can be left out for hours, my labret I could leave for days (it's been months since I removed it and I can still get a bar through it), and my snakebites can be left out for a couple of hours, but my tongue, nose, navel, tragus and daith have to have jewellery in them at all times or they shrink or close over.
In saying that, all of my piercings are well over a year old (except my madison, which I won't take out at all, it'll close over for sure), and some piercings will take a good few years before the jewellery can be left out. Others can be left out at around the 10-week mark, while others can never be taken out. It just depends on the individual piercing, and by the sounds of yours, it's not healed properly, so try to avoid taking jewellery out.

By removing and reinserting the jewellery regularly (or even on occasion), you will be causing irritation and perhaps rupturing or scratching the flesh tunnel, which will prolong the healing process. Think of it as akin to picking a scab - the more you pick, the longer it takes to heal, just like the more you take out and put back in the jewellery, the longer it will take to heal.
Your jewellery could also be cheap, or you may have an allergy, so the solution would be to buy some good-quality surgical steel jewellery, put it in, and leave it.

*shakes head* Whoever advised the use of peroxide on a piercing was sorely ill-advised. Peroxide does clean up a wound, yes, but the idea with piercings is to allow them to heal, and peroxide and other harsh agents such as alcohol dry the skin out so much that the growth of new skin cells is severely inhibited, thereby causing the wound to stay open and sore. And by putting such harsh cleansers on open wounds, you're causing more irritation, which will of course be painful. Yes, the wound will be clean and infection-free, but it will never heal as there can be no generation of new skin cells to cover the wound. Put the peroxide back in the bathroom cabinet and start using saline solution, which is available from pharmacies and is very inexpensive, or make a solution of warm (not hot) salty water - around 1 tablespoon of sea salt to 1 cup of warm water. Soak the piercing using saturated cotton balls for about five - ten minutes two or three times a day, and it should heal quite nicely.
While you're doing that, leave the anti-bacterial cream until there is an actual infection - it sounds to me like your redness and crustiness is simply caused by the natural healing process being inhibited by such harsh cleaning agents.
Don't worry, the surrounding flesh will be a little red and sore and weep a tiny bit during healing, that's the body's natural defences (immune system) trying to reject a foreign body. IT IS NOT A SIGN OF BACTERIAL INFECTION. If they start swelling really badly and spewing out gunky yellow pus, that's the time to start using anti-bacterial cream - using the cream at this point will do more harm than good.
Good luck, I hope those tips help you a little, and I hope your piercings heal nicely. PM me if you need any extra advice Smile

Life On Mars?:
Why blue?

Blue bandaids are the standard in most places that handle food.
They are approved by the health board and they are a color that is very
noticible of they fall off and into whatever food you are preparing.

Flesh colored bandaids falling into food are far more difficult to find or notice before it is too late.

Also, Dee - Yeah, they are, aren't they? ^^
My brother owes me a tattoo for a birthday, so I may get my first ink
in the week I have off for my birthday as well. I'm debating that one.

Should be an interesting week. Mr. Green

though—i'm just 15 so i still need to wait for 3 more years—i want to have it done professionally.
i don't think doing it by my own is a good idea.

^ i had to practically beg my parents to let me get my tragus pierced.
and now i'm stretching my lobes which they don't particularly like but i don't think they're going to stop me.

i'm waiting till i leave home to get any other major piercings [i think]. because my dad says i'm not allowed any more.

but if you're trying to convince your parents to let you get something pierced, i'd advise to research the piercing you want loads.
if you go to www.bmezine.com you can find stories and pictures of practically every piercing known on there, and there's loads of FAQ's to do with aftercare and even some stuff for worried parents.
once you've learned all you think you can learn about, lip piercing, in your case, you should try telling your parents that you'd like to get it done. do this in a calm, sensible manner, and let them know that you realise what it involves.
you need to show them that you're responsible and that you've really thought about the piercing.
it would probably also be a good idea to try and find a few reputable piercing places near you so you can name-drop places you could possibly get it done at, and maybe save some of your own money to pay for the piercing, to show your parents that you're serious about getting your lip pierced, and you've made an effort to convince them.

Really? Blue bandaid? Interesting. I've never heard of that being done before.
