Simple and Clean:
It isn't. It's a few cells with human potentual.
All_You_Need_Is_Love:
Six weeks:
http://patterico.com/images/6weeks.jpg
By the end of the week, your baby will be between 8-11mm, crown to rump. At this stage, the brain is clearly visible, as well as the gonads which are developing into either testes or ovaries.
The digestive system continues to develop. The anus is now formed and the intestines are growing longer. Bone formation starts this week; elbow joints and toe rays will now start to be visible. Your baby’s fingers and toes are just beginning to form this week and the arms can now flex at the elbows and wrists.
In addition, more facial developments are happening, including the formation of the tip of the nose and the upper lip. Flaps of skin over the eyes have begun to shape into eyelids. As well, blood begins to flow through a rudimentary circulatory system, while the digestive tract continues to grow, especially the intestines. And if this isn’t enough for one week, spontaneous movement also begins now.
Seven weeks:
http://patterico.com/images/7weeks.jpg
Your baby is now between 0.9 to 1.2 inches (22 to 30 millimeters) and weighs around 0.14 ounces (4 grams). Your baby’s elbows should also be fully developed by now, as are the toe rays. The gonads should have completed their growth into either testes or ovaries.
The tail which was at the bottom of your baby’s spinal cord has shrunk and has almost disappeared by this week. However, your baby’s head has been growing - it’s now very large compared with the rest of the body and it curves onto the chest.
Eight weeks:
http://patterico.com/images/8weeks.jpg
Toes, ears and the upper lip are now formed and by the end of the week your baby’s vital organs will be developed and starting to work together. During the week, the external genitalia will also start to take shape.
Brain growth increases rapidly by this week - almost 250,000 new neurons are produced every minute in your baby’s brain! As external changes, such as the separation of fingers and toes and the disappearance of the tail takes place, internal developments are taking place, too. Tooth buds form inside the mouth, and if you’re having a boy, his testes will begin producing the male hormone testosterone.
Nine weeks:
http://patterico.com/images/9weeks.jpg
Your baby’s irises will start to develop this week and finger nails will appear. Your baby’s reproductive organs begin to develop rapidly this week and the external genitalia will be recognizable.
Skipping ahead three weeks:
http://patterico.com/images/12weeks.jpg
The fetus is now in the second trimester. The intestines have formed, as have the villi inside them. At 12 weeks:
Your baby is now about 12cm and is even producing urine. In fact, your baby is urinating into the amniotic fluid as well as ‘breathing’ the amniotic fluid into his lungs! This week, head hair, including eyebrows, develops. Lanugo, the fine hairs that grow over your baby’s body and protect his skin, also grows this week and will continue growing until just before delivery.
Reproductive developments also take place this week. In boys, the prostate gland develops. In girls, the ovaries descend from the abdomen into the pelvis. In addition, your baby starts to produce hormones this week because the thyroid gland has matured.
Sixteen weeks:
http://patterico.com/images/16weeks.jpg
In many babies, hair growth has continued, and the hair follicles have begun to produce pigment in babies destined to be brunettes. The baby has learned to make a fist and bend its arms at the elbows and wrists. Bone and marrow production has continued, as has muscle development. At 14 weeks, the baby learned to squint and frown. The sex of the baby can be determined.
At 16 weeks:
Your baby will now be about 20cm in length and 7 ounces in weight. The bones are still hardening and the finger prints will begin forming shortly as the finger and toe pads are now formed. The bones of the inner ear and the nerve endings from the brain have developed enough so that your baby will hear sounds such as your heartbeat and blood moving through the umbilical cord. She may even be startled by loud noises. Your baby’s eyes are developing, too - the retinas may be able to detect the beam of a flashlight if you hold it to your uterus. Your baby is also now able to swallow and she may swallow up to a liter of amniotic fluid throughout the day.
Eighteen weeks:
http://patterico.com/images/18Weeks.jpg
At 17 weeks, girls already have ovaries filled with primitive egg cells. “Permanent teeth buds are forming behind the already formed milk teeth buds.” Babies can suck their thumbs. And at 18 weeks:
The skin is also developing layers which include the dermis, epidermis and subcutaneous layer. Baby’s hair and nails also continue to grow this week.

Cells with no feelings, relying on the mother to survive. How can it be murder when the cells haven't even turned into a human yet?
You may think it's unjustifiably murder, but I don't.
Another thing, after a few months, the mother would have to leave work untill the kid is born, another aspect of their life disrupted if they are forced to carry on something they don't want.

Age: 36 Gender: Female Posts: 483 | September 30th, 2007 at 03:22pm One thing I don't get... is why don't people stop and reason. I mean, if I'm not mistaken, isn't murder illegal?
So I would imagine if you think about it that way, that would mean since in most places abortions ARE legal up until a certain stage that that would in fact not make it murder.
I know, I know, looking at it from a legal point of view, doesn't justify the morals in question.
I honestly just think you know, it's YOUR body, it's YOUR life, it's YOUR decision. To hell what other people think. If abortion is the right choice for YOU, then it's the right choice, no matter what other people's opinons are.
Alot of people go on & on here about how having sex automatically means that if you get pregnant, then it's your fault even if you take precautions.
I mean, realistically that is not the way the world works.
I also have to think, women are only actually fertile three days of the month right? How UNLUCKY would you have to be if you did use contraception and it failed and you did get pregnant, the chances are so minute I wouldn't and actively don't think about it.
And you know, if I did get pregnant, I would have an abortion. If contraception failed, I wouldn't hestitate. I'm not financially, or emotionally secure enough to raise a child.
Realistically, you know, in the real world, not this fantasy land some of you seem to living in, people don't think about what would happen if the precautions they took failed. No one's going to stop having sex just because there's some tiny chance something might go wrong - and quite honestly if you did live your life in that way, you've never cross a road, let alone have sex. |

My biggest thing with the abortion debate right now is legality. A few years ago a man driving drunk hit a woman who was 15 weeks pregnant with twins, causing her to miscarry. That man in now in jail on two counts of manslaughter. However, if that woman had chosen to have an abortion, the doctor who performed the abortion would not be charged with anything. People need to make up their minds. Sure, the man shouldn't have been driving drunk and deserves jail time as a drunk driver. But as long as abortion is legal, which is the law saying that a fetus is not a person, he shouldn't have to sit there and have manslaughter on his record for the rest of his life while doctors who perform numerous abortions each year do not. |

There's a huge difference between getting drunk, getting in a car, and hitting a woman (or anybody)... and having a woman go to a doctor and saying that she wants an abortion. |

They all should.
I am against abortion.
However, there is still a huge difference between driving around when you're drunk (illegal) hitting a woman (illegal) and killing two infants... and a woman choosing to get an abortion.
Are either morally right?

If the contraceptive broke, then the woman choose to have intercourse in the first place. If she was not ready for a child, she should have taken no chances.
So you're saying that women should never have sex, even when they're on the pill, using a condom or any other forms of contraception that are 99% effective, just in case they fall pregnant?
That's ridiculous. Why should women be celibate until they're ready to have a child? If they're ever ready to have a child?
And what about STD/STI's? If a condom breaks is it the women's/mans fault if they get infected? Should they never have sex because there is a CHANCE they might catch something?
To be honest, I think that was a very childish statement. If I get hit by a car is my fault because I crossed the road? Should I be forced to pay for that for 9 months, and stop after an agonizing end, if I wasn't forced to keep payng for it my whole life, just because some people thought I was in the wrong?
No. Abortion needs to stay legal. If you don't like it then fine. But there are those with their lives ahead of them, who's lives are just taking off. There are those, who's lives are in danger if they don't abort the fetus.

If a woman does not feel mature enough to deal with possible consequences of sexual intercourse, no, she should not do so.
And if a man does not feel mature enough, neither should he.

There is a HHHUUUGGGEEE difference between making a decision to cross at a crosswalk and choosing to have intercourse.

All_You_Need_Is_Love:I despise abortion, and I would love to see it done away with completely... HOWEVER, I think it needs to remain legal.
No matter what, some women will refuse to admit adoption is an option, and if it's illegal, they will get an abortion done in a chop shop. Not only will the baby be murdered, but so will the woman.

At least abortions between the first and second trimester.
Even later abortions I don't care about, when a baby has a heartbeat and has formed fully, but that has more to do with MY concept of a human life, and I wouldn't shove that on anyone because people definately have the right to disagree with me on that one,
. legally however, I will not argue for abortions after that because at that time, they don't even resemble living things as much as they resemble and organ or body tissue. |
