Fezzik, but it is in the eyes of many people. to the government they say because it has no brain its not alive, but other people have different opinions. most people believe that because it has a heart its alive.

Hearts are so irrelevant though. Humans can survive for minutes at a time without a heartbeat, they can survive with artificial hearts. Plenty of animals have hearts, some nearly identical to ours. Our hearts are not that special. It's our brains that set us apart.

I know people have different opinions, but those opinions shouldn't be interfering with women's rights.

Well, my textbook (Cambell for introduction to college Biology) almost definitely said a few days. Lemme try to find it somewhere.

but, i already said this, scientists are actually finding that a embryo does have a brain, its microscopic, and has some brain function its just not fully devolped. without a brain how do you explain the heartbeat?

Okay, I looked around and according to here, generesR4losers you were right. Sperm cells can survive up to six days once they're past the cervix. It's just that they hardly ever do, because most are killed in the vagina, where they can live only a few hours, and you only ovulate a few days each cycle.

But anyway, GND, embryos have a hollow notochord made up of nerve cells that eventually develop into a spinal chord and brain. But all mammals have that at some stage in their development. And a teeny-tiny brain is none to impressive on the embryos-are-people argument; flies have tiny brains but no one minds killing them. Any brain an embryo had would just serve to regulate it's development - no thought, no consciousness; none of the things that make us people.

No. That's why they're pronounced dead at hospitals and their organs, if intact, are harvested for people who really need them, and aren't brain dead.

so, according to your particular brand of logic, both brainwaves and heartbeats are necessary for people to be considered people, right? just trying to get my facts straight...

^ well for a lot people, a heartbeat and brain is what makes them alive and human. so go ahead and say it isnt, doesnt mean its not.

^I say 'just brainwaves' because I don't think humans should be considered dead when their heart stops beating but their brain goes on. That's what defibrillators are for. But sure, if you want to say brain and heart, that still works fine for me in this discussion.

right. but a embryo has a brain. just cause its 'not impressive' you dont think its human or alive. but it has a brain, just cause theres no thought or memory doesnt mean its not alive.

^It doesn't have a brain, though, just a notochord. At least that's what they taught us in Bio last year. And yes, it's alive, but there's a difference between being alive and being a person.

^I didn't say it wasn't alive. I just said that killing something that isn't a person isn't murder.

Edit: And you're not a zombie, you're an embryo. Which means you're more comparable to a parasite or unfertilized egg cell than a person.
