Caution! Toxic!:
I think kids in school should be taught about how much rape fucks up peoples lives. It should be pretty harrowing.

I completely agree! Sexual Abuse Awareness is very limited in this world, and it's more common than most of what the media makes a big deal about.

Here's a topic I get pretty touchy about.
The one main thing I can say is if you are raped, you should always tell right after. I know it's hard, but the person who raped you could be raping other people, be they close to you or people you don't even know, and if you tell, it'll help that person as well.

My God, I'm really praying for your friend. Tell her it's not her fault rape is never anyones fault.

Let's get back on topic, ne?

Does anyone think that rape will ever be a thing of the past?
Why or why not?

Should rape recieve harsher punishments from the courts?
Why or why not?

Rape is such a hard topic but one thing thats for certain is that its never the victims fault.
I dont think it will ever be a thing of the past as it is getting more common now more than ever.
I agree with a previous post, there should be more awareness in schools,I've seen children I teach making a joke of rape, they dont fully understand how hard it is.

Well, I'm not trying to start a pity party for myself, but when I told my mom that my step dad had been raping me and we went to court he was only sentenced to Twenty-four years in prison. That seems like a lot, but I don't think it was. Not only had he been raping me since I was too little to remember, but he also had raped my cousin. I think he should have gotten life in prison.
I think it mostly depends on how long they raped for, how many people and things like that.
But I do think some people who get only five years or so should get MUCH, MUCH longer. It really ruins that persons life, and it's not something they easily forget about.

^^^^I think you are completely right...but I think that even if a person rapes someone once, they still deserve severe punishment.it ruins peoples lives and it does not deserve to happen to anyone, twenty four years is a very long time, but so many girls have to live with it for all their lives...how is it fair that the rapist is punished for only a short time in their life.

There's a law in Maryland that a man is allowed to finish with a woman if she is willing to have sex in the beginning but tells him to stop when it is actually happening.

It caused a big controversy in one case where the rapist was freed.

I'm trying to find the case & law right now.

But how about that?

I think that that is a pathetic law.A woman should be allowed to say no at the beginning or even during sex and a man has no right to continue!!!

I am completely and utterly biased and one-sided when it comes to rape.
I was a victim of rape once, and you think you know how horrible it is, but you don't understand how different it is once it's happened to you.
One of my best friends once tolde me, she doens't see why I was so upset over the fact, seen as it was basically just sex, and I had had sex several times before-hand.
But It's more than that.
It's debasing.
Demeaning.
All of your liberties are taken away from you.
You are alone.
No support groups can offer any support, because no matter what, you will always feel violated and sex will forever be ruined for the victim.

Do I think it will ever become a thing of the past? No way. There are too many arrogant pricks out there that think they have the right to do what ever they want. Nut it also seems to start becoming a trend among young girls.
There was a forum set up for young rape victims, and it was basically just girls boasting about it. You could tell they lied. The way they described their ordeals was utterly wrong, and obviously ficticious.
Yet no one is brave enough to stand up to them, for fear of being rejected from society.
But these girls do discredit victims.

Harsher Punishments? Well, I'm not sure about anywhere else, but as far as I'm concerned, Australia I think needs to get it's act together and decide on a universal system of punishment.
Instead of say, some rapists recieving 3 year Jail time and some 15 years, there should be a standard set.
And I don't believe religion should come into the equation at all.
Just because the rapist may be Muslim, should not enable him to get a lighter sentance.

A rapist is a rapist.

They are the scum of the earth.

I think that the only person you should blame is the raper...it doesn´t mather how a person are dressed or how they´re acting. They shouldn´t be raped for that....
I think that women are getting raped more often then guys because are more strong fysical and know how to act.
it sucks that girls are being raped more then guys just because they are a girl. It is so unfair. it´s easy to say all this but the thruth is that doesn´t help that much...the world will still be the same and maybe change slowly...
and I think that after you´ve been rape you don´t live your life the same way as you did before....you can never be the same again.... Cry

rape is going to be a large part of society for the next couple of years i predict (well hear in the UK)
around the area where i live over th last month 4 girls under the age of 16 have been raped in broad daylight, one of which i used to go to playschool with. Its quite shcoking really that with the amount of money going into policing and trying to protect everyone, that it is still carrying on

there should be harsher punishments for the rapists when caught, especially when the victim is under 16, dont get me wrong, i think everyone should be treated quite harshly for rape, but the raping of a minor is unforgiveable in my honest opinion.

I really think rape is something that is very overlooked, and very unfortunately so. I read an article in Seveteen today about a girl in India who was given the death sentence because she killed a man (men?) who were trying to rape her. And even if she was raped, they don't convict the men who did it. Sad It really is a lose/lose there. I do think that there are things that can be done, and that it should be briught to attention by the U.N. or any other world peace organization. There should also be harsher punishments for the crime.

rape is not only associated with intoxication and under influence. many times the rapist can be someone who suffers from mental illness or psychological issues leading back to childhood. child molestation can scar a child into adulthood leaving them with feelings of embarrasment needing to prove themselves of their sexuality. i t pressures them to show they are strong and powerful. one way of proving this is rape ( another popular one is spousal abuse). another hypothesis for the increasing amount of rape in the world is porn. as we can observe from the ted bundy case ( aka the rapist/murderer put on deathrow) porn can lead a person to a violent way of thinking. ted bundy was introduced to porn at a very young age which lead to his addiction of it. addiction to porn can catalyst even the most nicest persons way of thinking. eventually, teb bundy felt that porn was not meeting his needs any longer and that he had to copy what was being done in the porn in real life. he went on a rape and murder spree which led to the death of over 30 people. it is speculated this may be one of the leading causes for rape in other men

Might I point out, that although majority of rapists do have some sort of background to fuel what we think is a disgusting thing, there are also the few that don't have mental illnesses, that come from a good home, and are stable pyschologically.
Some people rape someone just for fun. They like the power, the knowledge that they're controlling the situation. And that's not exactly a crazy man's thought.
That's just an average thought depending on your personality.

If someone would rape just for "fun" then I would class that as a "crazy man's thought."
