What are your thoughts on HIV and/or AIDS? Are we doing enough to help victims? Are members of youth today well-informed about it? What precautions should we take to help decrease the number of those infected? |

Age: 31 Gender: Female Posts: 714 | May 31st, 2006 at 08:57pm I think we should do our best to provent it and help others out who have it. I hate how some people think that if you are gay, and im not gay, think that u have aids. It is wrong to think that. It is homophobia. |

Age: 33 Gender: Female Posts: 25186 | June 1st, 2006 at 01:55am I do not personally know any one with HIV or AIDS, but I know people have died from it simply because [they] didn't use a condom, or because [their] partner didn't tell them they had HIV or AIDS.
My friend's cat has AIDS, she got it from her mother. She is the cutest kitty cat ever.
Off topic// HIV or AIDS does not always come from your partner, you can also get it from either one of your parents. |

The Main reason children are born with HIV is because the mother has it, and the baby comes in contact with the blood of the mother during birth, or the breastmilk when nursing. Just so that you know.
EDIT: SHIT! I mean, the child can only get HIV from THEIR mother. Sorry, typo. |

Age: 37 Gender: Female Posts: 20564 | June 1st, 2006 at 10:41am Well, I think precaution is way better, but I'm against getting a cure for it. Prevention is it. If we all prevented, it'd eventually disappear. As for a cure, it would just make the population soar, and we do. Not. Need it. |

unfortunately, no. all they can do is try and treat it and putt death off as long as possible, then after that fails and the victim gets sick, then just make the person comfortable until he/she dies. it's really sad. |

Age: 33 Gender: Female Posts: 1254 | June 1st, 2006 at 12:24pm I think kids aren't educated about HIV/AIDS. They might know a little about it, but they think they could never get it. Doesn't a condom not prevent the HIV/AIDS from passing on to the other person? if that made sense. |

Age: 36 Gender: Female Posts: 8293 | June 3rd, 2006 at 10:54pm A condom does prevent the transmission of Hiv, If used properly, and has somewhere up in the 99% effective. Condoms protect against pregnancy and STD's/STI's. The condom HAS to be made of polyurethene or latex to work though, otherwise it just protects against pregnancy. |

Age: 34 Gender: Female Posts: 1390 | June 21st, 2006 at 10:33am HIV/AIDS is a big problem and I don't think enough is being done to stop/prevent it. Nevertheless, it would be a hard task to do since so many stupid people have unprotected sex. |

Age: 41 Gender: Female Posts: 905 | June 22nd, 2006 at 05:58pm It's an epidemic, and it seems like people aren't working hard enough to find a cure. And it's not always caused by unprotected sex or using infected needles. People in Africa got it from flies, and if the blood of a person with HIV or AIDS gets in you, then you'll probably get it. |

Age: 33 Gender: - Posts: 6561 | July 4th, 2006 at 11:20am I heard this a few months ago on Oprah, so please excuse me if it seems exaggerated or untrue in any way.
I heard that in places where many are infected, like Africa, there is a belief that you can rid yourself of AIDS by passing it on to another. I vividly remember them (on Oprah) discussing how infected men would rape infants and small children.
It sickened me, and at the moment I'm trying to find an article about it. If that is true, then it could really be making a difference. A negative one. |

The men rape the children because they're uneducated about the disease, and think it's how they can rid themselves of it.
I really don't think it's possible. |

Age: 36 Gender: Female Posts: 15766 | July 4th, 2006 at 11:31am Quote"Some say a child virgin avoids infection by nature of being 'closed up there' (a reference to the vagina).
"Many see the vaginal passage into the body as being 'sealed off' by an intact hymen. The intact hymen is viewed as a barrier, which prevents the HIV 'germ' from getting into and settling in the girl's blood.
"The belief is that a man will somehow get an infusion of 'clean blood' through this method
This site sort of explains some of it. Like where the theory comes from. |

Age: 32 Gender: Female Posts: 2696 | July 4th, 2006 at 11:38am Have any of you ever seen 'Rent'? Sorry, a little off topic, but it was a great movie about people with HIV/AIDS.
HIV/AIDS is really sad, and then some of the people who have it disgust me. Like some people are so angry they have it, they go and have unprotected sex purposely so others have it too. |

Philodelphia was an excellent movie about HIV/AIDS. With Tom Hanks.
Ugh, I hate the stereotypical 'Oh, he's gay, he has AIDS'. It's disgusting. |

I understand that AIDS is kind of 'new', but the lack of education people have about it just disgusts me.
Unless your friends father was a prostitute or something, I can't understand how they had a 'fear of getting HIV/AIDS' from him. |

two little girl have been kicked out of pre-school because other childern's parents found out they were HIV positive.I mean, c'mon people!
People with HIV and/or AIDS deserve to live a normal life without people pointing fingers at them. Those who are aware of their position will be careful when it comes to sexual intercourse and other people being near their blood. And the others who spread the disease on purpose should end up in jail because doing that on purpose is the same as a murder with premeditation. |
