Full Of Lies.:
How far back in the family can AIDS be passed down?

Do you understand that?

Anyone?

Our Avenged Jules:
You weren't talking about getting HIV/AIDS from being raped.
If you were, I wouldn't have stated what I did.

Fair enough. Yeah, I strayed a bit off topic, I can admit that.
Just a little bit though.
Because I was arguing the point that it's not the rape victim's fault if they get AIDS.
But like I said, fair enough - you are the mod here, after all.

You are overlooking something Austing.

The blood tests for HIV is often not correct until SIX MONTHES after the person is infected.
That means that a person can be totally oblivious to having the virus, and still pass it on.
And as such, even if you get tested after unprotected sex, there is no guarantee that you are clean.

In that case, should a person get a clean bill of health, then sleep with other partners,
whose fault is it that the partners get infected?

A person should be regularly checked for AIDS if they have regular unprotected sex

Hayley - Love, you are an awesome debater, but you are driving me nuts.
No one gets Aids. It just doesn't happen.
They contract HIV, which can, in time, progress to Aids.
(Sorry, but that is one of my biggest pet peeves. >.<Wink

Whitney - HIV can only be passed to a person through the blood, semen, vaginal fluid or breast milk.
The only way for HIV to be passed down is if the mother is infected and gives it to her child during birth, or after birth through the milk.

However, a woman with HIV can give birth to a perfectly healthy baby.

The thing is, Austin, it isn't ONLY spread through unprotected sex.

Sure Austing, if they regularly have unprotected sex.

But today, more and more people are being smarter, and using protection (condoms, to fight HIV).
If the condom breaks, the person gets tests that come back clean, then goes back out.
It's easy enough for another condom to break, or the person may fall in love and decide to stay in a monogomous relationship.
There's hundreds, if not thousands of different scenerios.

EDIT: Austing, if their tests say they are clean, how exactly is it their fault if they infect others?

How often are HIV tests inaccurate?

and then it's their physicians fault
I'm saying it's always someones fault

^No problem. I didn't mean to snap, and if I did,
I appologize. It just comes from being a sex-ed for so long. Wink

HIV - Two most common ways of contracting Human Immunodeficiency Virus
are through unprotected anal, oral, or vaginal sex, and the use of infected needles.

It is also possible to contract the virus from blood to blood contact,
but it is a much more rare occurance.

HIV is a very fragile virus; it cannot survive long outside of the human body,
unless it is in a place where it can retain heat and moisture,
like the very base of a used needle.

Austing, the cold hard reality of it, is that it is not always someone's fault.

Faulty test results can be a product of malfuntioning machinery. But I wasn't saying the result was faulty.
I was saying the test showed negative, while the person is positive.
How is this possible?
It takes the body about six monthes to build up antibodies to the virus, and the test looks for those antibodies
If a person is tested, say, two weeks after a bout of unprotected sex, they won't have the antibodies yet
So they can be tested, be negative, and still be given a clean bill of health

Squee. One more question before I go.

So say two of the kids in my class used the same needle
more than once, they could possibly pass it IF one of them had HIV?

Austing, now we're on the "Yes it is" "No it isn't" track?
Here I thought you had more of your logic for me.
And do keep in mind that unsupported statements and off topic discussion is spam. Wink

---------------

Whitney - Absolutely. Unless they sterilized it in a bleach solution between uses,
if repetitive uses are involved, the chances skyrocket.
