I mean it was pure ignorant. They shove a needle through a pencil
eraser. And then hit each other with it to make the needle go in
them. No washing it or anything. And I mean the needle nearly
an inch and a half in the flesh. For nothing but possible disease? |

What if someone sits on a toilet and there was menstrual blood left on it, that was infected with AIDS, and the blood got into your uterus? Could you get AIDS that way? I mean, sure, it's unlikey, but it is possible. |

It would have to travel up the vagina, through the cervix and into the uterus, dodging forces of antibodies on the way.
Not to mention that they uterus is the bodies equivalent of a high-security jail, it is one of the most protected parts of a woman's body.
Menstral blood is not really blood, it is the lining of the uterus, tissue.
To the best of my knowledge, it is not infected with the HIV virus.
Tamara - The ONLY ways to get HIV are from blood, semen, vaginal fluid or breast milk.
It is damn near impossible to contract HIV from a toilet seat, the only concieveable way being
if you had a lesion on your toosh and sat in fresh blood left behind from another person,
and it would have to be actual blood, and still warm. Like I mentioned before,
HIV is a particularly picky virus. It cannot survive long outside the human body.
Whitney - An actual hollow needle, or a sewing needle?
Austing - Then if you don't have anything new to add to the conversation, I would suggest you don't bother posting.

Anyway, I'm reading his book, and this is just a paragraph about AIDS in Africa:

Sixty-five hundred Africans are dying every day of a preventable, treatable disease.
And it is not a priority for the West: two 9/11s a day, eighteen jumbo jets of fathers, mothers, families falling out of the sky. No tears, no letters of condolences, no fifty-one gun salutes.
Why?
Because we don't put the same value on African life sa we put on a European or an American life.
God will not let us get away with this, history certainly won't let us get away with out excuses.
We say we can't get these antiretrovial drugs to the farthest reaches of Africa, but we can get them our cold fizzy drinks.
The tiniest village, you can find a bottle of Coke.
Look, if we really thought and African life was equal in value to an English, a French, or an Irish life, we wouldn't let two and half million Africans die every year for the stupidest of reasons: money.

So I know that's bordering on a lot of other topics - racism etc. - but that section in bold states the facts.
That's how many people are dying of AIDS in one continent alone.

Something that scares the ever lovin' shiznit out of me. I first heard of this, horrble, life taker from the movie/musical "RENT", but I never knew that it had an effect on my life. I've watched so many people get hurt from AIDS and I even watched my brother lose a best friend. I never thought I would take something so serioulsy that I think about it almost everyday. It scares and I can't even think about what might happen if I ever caught it......

Condoms may be 99% effective but it doesn't get to 100%. Sometimes people should just be more careful about sexual intercourse. If a person has HIV/AIDS and knows it, should stop having sex or at least let the person they are having sex with know before there is any kind of penetration. I disagree that people treat people with AIDS as if they are a freak or as if touching them is going to get them the virus. |

However, penetration isn't the only way you can get HIV.
Oral sex is a huge culprit, especially if there is a lesion in the mouth or oral piercing.
It's like an open door to your veins.
Because the HIV virus is present in semen and vaginal fluid, oral sex can be very risky.
The reason being, people can be uber - safe about penetration,
but have oral sex with no thoughts as to getting an STD. |

Saliva does contain a minimal amount of the HIV virus,
but you would have to ingest over three litres of spit to get it that way. |

People are still so ignorant and cruel when it comes to stuff like AIDS and sexuality, and I'm really sick of it. Because it's been going on for so long that these people who are ignorant, that they just need to build a bridge and get over themselves!
Sorry about the rant. It's just that ever since I've seen RENT, all of this is just coming into reality for me. But, people really do just need to learn and except this. Sure, it may be because they don't know the facts, but in my opinion, thats no excuse for treating someone badly.
