ZooZoo Magee:

What do you mean by "mini-Bibles"?
Do they ask before giving a prayer, or are they just like, "We're going to pray now." ? That does seem a little odd.
I don't mind if people give me pamphlets, the Jehovah's Witnesses have before and I take it, but I also let them know that I'm a part of a religion I'm very happy with.

Small bibles that have a couple chapters in them, not the complete new testament and old testament.
As for the prayer thing, they came into my cousins house to talk about their religion and asked them to read out a bit of the bible with them, then they asked her if she wanted to pray with them, she said no and that she is part of another religion and they kept pressing onto the topic like she had no choice. In the end she did it so that they would leave, because she didn't want to be rude.

My oh my.
They don't do that in America.
Tell them there's bake sale across the corner. ^^
Wow, I'd be mortified if someone came in my house and just started preaching ,even if they had asked because I'm most likely not to say anything. I dont' like being rude to God-fearing people. =[
I've done that to the Jehovah witness people too, they're cool. 8-]

I admit..the whole "love Jesus and don't do anything bad or else you will go to hell" thing is kinda confusing. My youth group is having a week long "conference" this week...and last night ..i forget what my pastor said..but it made me think. Moses killed a guy..but still is probably in Heaven. I'm so confused.

So I think that if you believe in Jesus..give him your soul (that sounds really odd..i know...i couldn't think of another way to say it)..and try..TRY..to live a christian life..then you'll be fine. i mean..no one's perfect..and I don't think God will hold that against you. I know God won't hold it against you.

As for the Jehovah's Witnesses .....erghasiughasghasgj. when i was younger..they came to my door while my mom was upstairs i think...and there were 2 of them and they're like..is your mother home...and i forget what i said..but i walked away (basically letting them know she was not available)..and i don't know for sure if they left. but they did come back.

Annoying ladies. haha. I think it's incredibly rude to shove religion..any religion..down anyone's throat. it's horrible.
I ..again..am a Christian and I don't have a problem with gay people at all. a couple of my cousins are lesbians (not together..) my best friend is gay...plus i have a few other gay friends. i love them all dearly. I don't think it's necessarily right to be gay...but i also don't think they'll go to hell just for being gay. I personally have no problem with them..at all. It's just something I'm use to and don't really care about..and people shouldn't get all worked up about it...it's a waste to be homophobic. (no offense to anyone who is).

Well at the same time, I've come across Catholic/Christian people from churches trying to shove a bible down my throat and get $28.98+tax for it.
Many other religions do that. It's kinda of their way of letting you know they're thinking of ya. =]

I was born into a Mormon home, so I guess you can say I'm Mormon (well of course i am i got baptized). I have to go to chruch, my parents make me I have no choice. Really though, I have no idea if they're teachings are true. Most of the time I just sit thier wondering if God does exist. But I really am Non-denominational.

That really is too bad that your parents make you go to church as it should be your own choice.
Finding out if the teachings are true really is a personal choice. It may take something as simple as praying, but it may be something that takes years. Or, even if you know the teachings to be true, something you need to study for a lifetime.
I know God exists, I hope that someday you can know, too.

Greek and Roman mythology explained what science, at the time, couldn't.
God of rain, God of war, God of the Sun, Goddess of the Moon, etc.
I do think that the definitives of religion, the specifics are created to fill what questions we need answered.
The earth being created in seven days, why there's evil in the world, how we got here, what our purpose is.

Religion can be used for both good and evil.
Faith is something entirely different and something I believe is entirely better.

Science and religion are not at odds.
Science is simply too young to understand.

Yeah, that's a good point actually.
What do you all think the diferrence is between religion and faith?
Or if there even is a diference.

Faith is just something you personally believe. There are no rules or traditions you have to follow. It is simply what you believe.

Religion is a group of people who all decide that everyone in their religion believes in a certain thing. There are rules to follow, things that aren't allowed, money to be given, and places to be on certain days at certain times.

Part of the reason I left my church is because I don't believe Harry Potter is evil, I don't want to hear about what the deacon's son wants to do to "faggots", and how my dad is going to hell by working weekends.

Jesus doesn't care about that.

religion has rules and i think putting rules on life gives u a prejudice (sp?) on certain ways in life and can stop people from being who they are...i think that having faith is just fine but some aspects of religion i just dont like. Its another way to conform....

I don't believe in God. Not anymore.
I hate to be in a church. I hate to pray if we're visiting a grave or anything.
I hate the crucified (sp?) Jesus things.
But still, I have to go to a catholic school.

I dont really see myself as an athiest anymore as much as irreligous. I'm open to questionable scenarios. I dont hate catholics, but i still feel outkast.

Ok, I get this. So many of you are saying that Faith=On your terms and that Religion=A mold you must follow.

I think we should all find a balance.

Saying I'm atheist because you don't like some aspects of your religion may not be the only way.

Don't give in to the mold, but take some parts of it that you agree with.

And the whole deacon's son wanting to do something against "faggots" that actually scares me. =[

I don't wish to offend anybody here, but I think religion is...well, there's no other word I can think of but bullshit. I don't understand why people believe a book that some dude wrote 2,000 years ago? Some random, possibly mentally ill man saying "There is a God!". If I walked down the street today and said I got a calling from God, people would think I'm insane. I'm sorry that I'm disrespectful towards other people's beliefs, but its what I truly believe, and I don't see why I should respect it when people sometimes give me shocked looks when I say "I'm athiest". It's crazy.

How come, if in a lot of schools, mine included, around here, if you say anything about Christianity / Judaism / Islam / Sihkism / ECT being bad, you're sent to the Headteacher's / Principal's office for racism, but if you say anything against Satanism / Paganism being stupid, evil or bad, the teacher laughs with you or agrees?

How come if you say you are offended by somebody saying "Satanists are evil people who rape and kill", the teacher replies "It's not exactly a religion though, is it?" or "But they are the people who do terrible things..."?

How come if you say "I'm Satanist / Wiccan", you get teachers telling you to stop being silly or to stop being so "gothic"?

Hm...

Sweet Cyanide___X: You don't have to be disrespectful towards anyone's beliefs. It is more likely that if you are respectful of other's beliefs, they will be respectful of yours. I am not saying that is always true, but the chances are increased.

Kathryn Catastrophe: I bring your post up only to establish what I am going to say. My school is not like that for which I am grateful, though I am not Pagan, or Wiccan.

I find that at my school no one really cares if people are religious or not. It's not something that's overall important. Some do get angry when others try to push their religion on others, but those are the minority [minority=people who try to push their religion on others.]

I'm a Bad Christian. I'm marrying an agnostic. My mother and brother are both Atheists. I've no problem with any of that.
However, I do have a problem with my conservative Christian stepmother's beliefs.

I think that people have a right to believe what they believe, but its just not for me.
Plus, then you have got my school, which keeps trying to shove religion down your throat.
All the RE teachers keep giving me evil looks when i turn up in thick eyeliner, like 'God will punish you and send you to hell' and all that.
Its quite funny.
I'm rambling arent I?
