The only time it ever really came up was in the seventh grade for when we were studying ancient Europe, and the whole Church Rules All stories. I personally would tell off a teacher for trying to shove a religion down my throat. Not natural. And yes, when you talk about a religion you get sent to a principal's office or in most public schools you get told it has nothing ot do with the topic, that some people don't belive in a God. Well excuse me, if I can't call anyone in my class on Sunday because they're at mass, that obviously tells us something now doesn't it Dearies? |
| RAVE on my grave Bleeding on the Floor Age: - Gender: Female Posts: 1466 | I myself am a confused agnostic. Just thought I'd post this excerpt from an essay I did in Religious Education entitled "God Is..."; And think of this; the most popular religions believe that their God has no power over our free will, and so it is our own will to believe in whatever God we choose. Technically it is the will of the people that keeps that God 'up and running', as it were. So really, it was the nature of the human mind that created God in the first place. In that case, it is not a matter of a creator making creations, but creations in search of a creator, and so creating one themselves. And so, God Is... - or could be - a figment of our imaginations. This is not certain, but currently seems most plausible. In the essay I also compared different religions' views of God and mentioned reasons why there has to be a God or creator/designer of some sort. I got quite a good mark (7b, and I'm in Year 9, for any English people out there who know the Key Stage system). |

I'd rather go through life believing in God and finding out at the end that I'm wrong, than to go through life believing there isn't a god and finding out at the end that I'm wrong. |

| The Hitcher Bleeding on the Floor Age: 30 Gender: Female Posts: 1633 | druscilla; in rags: I totally agree with this! I myself am a Christian, and if times get hard, it is really comforting believing there is a God there that is going to make it all alright |

| poopiepeople Fabulous Killjoy Age: 31 Gender: Male Posts: 132 | I am an atheist. Relgion is bullshit, it causes the most hate in the world. Always has, always will. |
| FAKE Thinking Happy Thoughts Age: 28 Gender: Female Posts: 534 | I detached myself from religon for the reason that I was brought up as catholic by my nanna , who really belived , and so it helped me understand the concept of her sudden death . (I was only 6) But when I was about 10 it began to amuse me on how my mother does not love me as much as god , although he doen't have a clue who i am . Soo i am now like my father who do not belive in god but that there is a life after death . xoxoxo |
| pillowpants Killjoy Age: 32 Gender: Female Posts: 16 | After my dad died when I was twelve, I stopped thinking God was this wonderful force. I hated Him because I couldn't imagine why He would want to take my father away from me at such a young age. Now, I've grown to accept the fact that God does to wonderful things. But the thing that bothers me the most is when people tell me "It's okay. God has a plan." or "Don't worry: God will take care of it". We have control of our own future sometimes too, you know. I might seem like I'm rambling, and some of this probably won't make any sense, but when I think about it, I know what I mean. |

| Fezzik Salute You in Your Grave Age: 31 Gender: Female Posts: 2748 | poopiepeople: Religion also inspires people to feed the hungry, house the homeless, and generally make the world a better place. Ignorance causes more hatred than anything. Most religions preach love, acceptance, and kindness. It's people that go around spreading hatred. Oh, and there's no cursing on the Discussion Board (rules). |
| Oxycontin Genocide. Banned Age: 27 Gender: Male Posts: 2955 | Resurgam: Well technically, those acts are out of those people's heart. Secular humanisn also teaches love, acceptance and kindness. I don't have any problem with people's religion, its just that poopiepeople has a point. Most wars are fought over religion, so that's why my dad and I chose to be atheist. |
| Fezzik Salute You in Your Grave Age: 31 Gender: Female Posts: 2748 | But who's to say masses of people would follow the secular humanism philosophy if they didn't have religion? And you certainly can't deny the impact of religious charities. Most wars were fought over religion, but religion doesn't cause war. That's like saying that land causes war because so many wars have been fought over territory. People start wars because they're arrogant and ignorant and think their beliefs are the only right ones. Blame people for that, but don't blame institutions that generally preach peace and love. |
| poopiepeople Fabulous Killjoy Age: 31 Gender: Male Posts: 132 | Resurgam: No it doesn't. You don't need to relgion to be a decent human being, love and be kind. It's in people's nature. Not their relgion. Iv'e met plenty of relgious people who are...not very decent people. Telling me i'm going to hell because I don't belive in god isn't very kind. jewish people have been discreminated by christians, muslims etc.. where is the kindess and love in that? How bout pagan's who were slaughted? Or what about the suicide bombers who explode themselfs for the word of "Allah"? What about the whole pedo priest scandal? |
| poopiepeople Fabulous Killjoy Age: 31 Gender: Male Posts: 132 | Resurgam: On the n00b forum the rules state that profanity was allowed, so i'm sorry about that. |
| Fezzik Salute You in Your Grave Age: 31 Gender: Female Posts: 2748 | poopiepeople: I know that there are plenty of wonderful non-religious people out there, and I know there are plenty of awful people who are very religious. I didn't mean to come off like that. I just mean that pretty much the only thing most religions actually tell people is to be good and kind and to love and forgive. Not religious leaders, not the people who follow those religions, but the religions themselves - yes, there have been tons of terrible acts carried out in the name of religion, but those people twisted their religion to fit their own hatred. If Hitler wasn't killing religious minorities for their beliefs, he would've found some other excuse to kill them. You can't get rid of a basically good institution just because some people take its messages the wrong way. |
| The Rumor Awake and Unafraid Age: 29 Gender: Female Posts: 11966 | You shouldn't judge a religion by the people following it, but by the religion itself. |
| Silverstein Bleeding on the Floor Age: 28 Gender: Male Posts: 1248 | I am Christian myself. I am sort of struggling with it...all of me believes, but I have done some bad bad things at only 13 and question myself every day. I really need to nail it down, but it's hard for some reason. I support Christianity but do not force it by any means. |
| girl interrupted. Salute You in Your Grave Age: 27 Gender: Female Posts: 2792 | What's annoying is people forcing religion down other's throats. If people do not want religion, they should not be forced to have it. |
| Silverstein Bleeding on the Floor Age: 28 Gender: Male Posts: 1248 | I agree. Religion is a free choice. There's no "you have to", which is cool. Can't be punished for loving God or whomever you choose. Thank you for the venom...ha ha! |
