Thats uh um, "unique" religion.

I call it crackpot religion... It's like a cult. Like people worshipping Spongebob. It's only popular because celebrities follow it.

Atheist.
I was raised a Baptist (Christian), but broke away about half a year ago. My family is very Christ-centered. My Mom is a Sunday school teacher, and my brother is active in the church youth group.
It's difficult for me. I have to fight day in and day out with my mom, explaining to her why I just don't believe in a god anymore, and why I believe what she's following is just a load of shit. I find it hard to be steadfast with atheism, as I use to be very fierce in my religious beliefs, but with time it gets easier and I find more sense in it than in Christianity or any other religion.

I don't believe in God anymore. I think religion dictates the world...and in recent years more bad then good has come out of religion.

Last night I watched this doco and they interviewed this muslim (no I am not a muslim hater) who is American and he used to live in NY. He said that america deserved the 9/11 attacks.

He also said non muslims have no morals and that the women dress like whores. Yeah that may be true, but that is because we aren't controlled by dudes with a beard. But its okay for their women to be controlled and wrapped up, with two eye holes to see out of? Oh yeah he also said that muslims are going to take over the world. He wasn't a terrorist by the way...just a normal looking muslim.

I am usually so accepting of other religions, but my tolerance is running out. The muslim leader in Australia is a $%#! head and he should leave now. He always claims to be misrepresented by the media...whatever. I know not all muslims are like this, but they need to gag the ones who are.

^^I agree. That muslim leader in Australia is making other muslims look bad...
Even though I'm not religious, I believe that it might of been religion that taught us morality before it just became a normal value in humans...since in the past there was only religion, but no science kind of thing... or maybe what I said doesn't make sense...

But who's to say masses of people would follow the secular humanism philosophy if they didn't have religion? And you certainly can't deny the impact of religious charities.

Most wars were fought over religion, but religion doesn't cause war. That's like saying that land causes war because so many wars have been fought over territory. People start wars because they're arrogant and ignorant and think their beliefs are the only right ones. Blame people for that, but don't blame institutions that generally preach peace and love.

Christianity is probably one of the worst religions out there. There's adultery and murder in almost every story. And I was reading the kids' version... The reason Christianity is so wide spread was because they killed every body who didn't believe until they conformed. I mean, in one of the stories, God kills some children because they made fun of a bald guy... how is that not provoking war and terrorism...

I'm a Christian, but I don't feel like most Christians have been given a good wrap. Most people I know who are Christians are horribly fake and pretend to be perfect. I know that I am not perfect so I don't pretend to be. I hate fake people of any type but fake Christians really hit a nerve with me because most are hypocritcal(sp?)

Whether or not that holds true, comments like that foster religious intolerance. Everybody is entitled to believe in what they want to, no matter how stupid we think it sounds. The concept of scientology is no less far-fetched than a man who could walk on water or feed thousands with one loaf of bread and a couple fish. Just because it sounds inconceivable to you doesn't mean it doesn't make sense to someone else. I've often been told that my belief in the concept of balance of energies, earth being feminine and air being masculine, etc. are horrendously ridiculous. Yet that is what I choose to believe, and it makes sense to me.

I'm not trying to start a war or anything here, I just wanted you to see that comment was a little uncalled for... Very Happy

I watched this document once, and the closing statement was;
'Would the world be better if religion of anysort did not exist?'
I guess it depends how you look at it, but the world certainly would be different (obviously). However, would there still terrorists? Would there still be war? Would there still be people who hate each other for being different/
Of course there would. Religion can help the above things, but never start them.

I completely agree with you, for a start, there are many different types of war besides religious...territorial is the first to come to mind.
Racism and so on quite often doesn't have a thing to do with religion.

I don't think religion exists. We are just forced to believe in it. I don't believe in a religion. I believe in rebirth. I think our souls will come alive again in another body. Religion does nothing but causes wars. Most of the time racism is because of Religion.

I don't think the world would be any less chaotic if religion was gone. You'd still have war, you'd still have people killing eachother, you'd still have everything that people deem "immoral" or wrong.

Yes, but the moral of those stories is not "Go murder people and cheat on your wife, that's how you can be a good Christian!" That would be provoking war and terrorism. Yes, the Old Testament has quite a lot of Vengeful God. But it also has loads of other stuff that no one listens to. The overall message of the Bible, though, is love thy neighbor, love thyself, be nice to people, and have a some respect and humility.

Oh, and yes, Christians (the Catholic church, really), did kill quite a lot of people in efforts of "conversion". But again, that was man acting. Jesus never said "kill everyone who doesn't believe in me". Don't blame that on the teachings of God and Jesus.

I couldn't have said it better myself. You have to judge a religion by the religion that is followed, not the people that follow it.
