| Philyrajuliet Killjoy Age: 31 Gender: Female Posts: 17 | HellBoy.: I think this is where the most interesting and frankly controversial type of discussion about religion, especially in America, where it seems to have become SUCH AN ISSUE, seeing as we couldn't do without the fun of an election year in 2007, so we started the race early as if there wouldn't be another year and a half until we get a new president. ..but I digress. I think religion has no place in government and that most of the morals that exist within most of your major religions as well as forms of government are so universal because they are the absolute of morality. What I mean to say is American ideals (for instance) that were influenced by the Christianity of the founding fathers would still exist had they been athiests. TJ was an agnostic after all. |

| MrRandomGuy Fabulous Killjoy Age: 35 Gender: Male Posts: 128 | Her Dark Materials.: I never compared religions. My point is: creating your own God will present problems especially if the person has a sadistic nature and loves human sacrifice |

Salute You in Your Grave Age: 27 Gender: Female Posts: 4290 | MrRandomGuy:If someone manages to find a loop-hole in the laws and this certain loop-hole allows them to kill hundreds of people and call it a religious practice then...good for them. But what I meant was; If we can create a god that makes us follow a ridiculous set of rules that everyone in the world has broken, why can't we create one that would not mind if we were gay, that would support us all the way? |
| Lounge Fly Bleeding on the Floor Age: 30 Gender: Male Posts: 1061 | It's simple. You are entitled to choose whatever religion you wish, and you have no right to tell someone that their religion or lack of one is wrong. If you do, you are no better than al-Qaeda or Hamas or any other Muslim wingnut agency. |
| gerardwaylovesmelots Killjoy Age: 29 Gender: Female Posts: 3 | I guess im agnostic then : / |
| MrRandomGuy Fabulous Killjoy Age: 35 Gender: Male Posts: 128 | Her Dark Materials.: I think I'm beginning to see what you are saying, but the God we make would be flawed......I really don't know anymore, it's all so confusing! |

The rules are there so that you know what it wrong and what isnt. If no one knew the difference between good or bad you can just imagine what the world would be like today, if it would be here at all. That's why countries have laws. That's why God has rules. |
| druscilla. Bleeding on the Floor Age: 34 Gender: Female Posts: 1671 | ^ So, it's cool to commit certain sins and not others? Like, taking the Lord's name in vain. That's cool. We can forgive that. But God forgive you actually screw the person you love or work on Sunday to support your family. |
| UndyingSoul. Really Not Okay Age: 32 Gender: Female Posts: 722 | druscilla; ryry: Not at all. All sins are sins, they are all just as evil as the other, but sins to some people arent sins to the next person, which is where it all gets complicated. |
| Stolen Baby On Board Banned Age: 30 Gender: Female Posts: 1900 | This is exactly why I became Agnostic. I was brought up Catholic and used to go to church, pray, went to a fun Christian youth group and everything. But still, the whole time I was confused. I started wondering "just because this guy says he's the son of God, it makes him holy?" And the whole sex before marriage thing; Why was it such a big deal? What if a person was raped? Would that make them a sinner? And I never understood the whole "accepting Christ as my personal Savior." I didn't know this guy, who knows if he actually performed miracles. And how could I accept him as my savior if he wasn't saving me? I would pray about all the bad crap going on at home. I was taught to pray whenever things got bad. Ask for guidence, ask for help. I opened my ears and my heart and heard nothing. I felt like I was being ignored. When my friend died, my mom said "God decided it was just her time to go." It was her time to go at 14? She wouldn't be able to drive, go to high school, go to the prom, and all of a sudden God decides it's time for her to go? That's when I lost faith completely. In my personal opinion, if He is so powerful, why is there still so much suffering in the world? Why does a person go to Hell for not believing in Him? Even if they're a good person? It makes no sense at all. And the whole idea of Hell scared me to death. I was paranoid that everything I was doing was a sin. All the ppl I was hanging around weren't exactly saints, but I loved them. Didn't that make them sinners too? I was told "yes". So the mother who, because of one mistake, is going to Hell for having sex at 18, unmarried? Even if she is a great mother? I don't like it at all. I am so much happier with my religion now. And of course I'm not criticising any Christians/Catholics, this is just my opinion. I'm glad I'm Agnostic and I plan on staying this way. |
| UndyingSoul. Really Not Okay Age: 32 Gender: Female Posts: 722 | ^^ Well earlier in the thread we have discussed a lot of the points you just brought up, so if you are ever bored I suggest just taking a peek through the thread (unless of course you already seen most of it and still dont have any clue). |

| Fezzik Salute You in Your Grave Age: 31 Gender: Female Posts: 2748 | ^It's all just a matter of faith. You have it or you don't. I have my own personal faith and I'm comfortable with it. Other people aren't comfortable with the particular brand of faith that's been pushed on them, and can't make it fit them. I don't think it's very much good trying to have other people explain what they feel. I could never really understand how an Atheist feels a total lack of presence of God, nor could an Atheist person ever really understand how to believe in a divine something larger than yourself. People have to come to terms on their own feelings, really. |
| Oxycontin Genocide. Banned Age: 27 Gender: Male Posts: 2955 | My parents sent me to the Christian Bible Summer Camp (it was cheaper). They asked us to except Jesus into our heart as Lord and saviour. When I did, I felt something inside me, like the feeling of love. I think like God exists, but not the God in the heavens watching over people. God is in everyone and when you have a strong faith, you can sense the God in you, whether you believe it's the Christian God, or the God in the Q'uaran(sp?). You pray to Him to help you get through the day. I guess that's kind of like the Buddhist idea, but I'm still Atheist. |
| Rock Steady Salute You in Your Grave Age: 32 Gender: Female Posts: 3755 | personally i am an Atheist.. religion has never appealed to me. i think thats due to my sientific nature i just cannot accept there is an almighty being that created everything and knows good from bad when there is absolutely no proof. and who knows what good and bad really is...its all perspecitve. i see terrorism as bad, terrorists see it as good. also if there is one almighty god then how comes theres all these different religions,,,? i believe religion is based on myths and legends. and tbh in some was people use it as an excuse to act in certain ways, i guess some people just need the support it offers them. i just cant see why sooooooooo many people, of all religions, base their lives on being told how to live by people they have no proof of existing. its just doesnt make sense to me. |
| UndyingSoul. Really Not Okay Age: 32 Gender: Female Posts: 722 | Rock Steady: Well a lot of people who people nowadays base their faiths on really did exist, like Jesus, Bhudda, Muhammed(forgive me if i spelled then both completely wrong), and probably others but those are the only ones that come to mind. That doesnt prove that the religion is true or right but it all doesnt just come out of thin air (Well some religions do just come out if thin air, but thats a whole different conversation). |
| Oxycontin Genocide. Banned Age: 27 Gender: Male Posts: 2955 | I was watching channel 7 news this morning (it's a lot less biased than fox news), and they mentioned that some companies are bringing religion into the work place. Is this a good idea? Discuss. |
| Rock Steady Salute You in Your Grave Age: 32 Gender: Female Posts: 3755 | NotOkay22: but then i dont think i've ever heard any proof the jesus was real.. |
| Fezzik Salute You in Your Grave Age: 31 Gender: Female Posts: 2748 | ^There is proof that Jesus is real (as in, really existed, was a real man), just not that he was actually the son of God. I'd dig up some evidence but I'm leaving for work. Basically there are just way too many eyewitness accounts of Jesus for him to have been a complete figment of the world's collective imagination. |
